Mexican flag raised at Trump's Scotland golf course ahead of visit

An angry neighbor whose land borders Donald Trump's Aberdeenshire golf course defiantly raised the Mexican flag alongside the partition line, days before the presumptive Republican US presidential nominee is due to visit Britain.

David Milne, who has land surrounded by the controversial golf course in Menie, said the flags were in support of those who have been "intimidated and insulted" by Trump's anti-immigration rhetoric, according to the Herald Scotland.

The business tycoon turned presidential candidate sparked a global outcry during his campaign when he announced he would build a 1600km-long (1,000-mile) wall along the border with Mexico, a country he accused of sending rapists to the US.

Trump has previously attempted to purchase Milne's home during the building of a luxury golf resort and then built a fence around the property, sending the local resident half of the bill after he refused to sell.

Milne told the Herald he raised the flag in solidarity with Mexican people and "anyone else Trump has decried, insulted, intimidated and lied about primarily during his campaign." "And it's also to show solidarity with all the people he has tried to harass and point out we are still here and not going anywhere," he added.

Faception: Israeli start-up develops facial profiling technology to predict personality

Thoughtcrime was not a thing that could be concealed forever. You might dodge successfully for a while, even for years, but sooner or later they were bound to get you. ~ George Orwell, 1984
In George Orwell's dystopian novel 1984, thoughtcrime is the criminal act of holding unspoken beliefs or doubts that oppose or question the ruling party of Oceania. In the book, the government attempts to control not only the speech and actions, but also the thoughts of its subjects.

Entertaining those unacceptable thoughts is referred to as crimethink, and facecrime was an indication that a person is guilty of thoughtcrime based on facial expression.

Orwell's Thought Police are charged with uncovering and punishing thoughtcrime and thought-criminals. They use psychological methods and omnipresent surveillance to search, find, monitor, and arrest members of society who could challenge authority and the status quo - even if only by thought.

Human Rights Watch: End Syrian refugee returns to Turkey, unsafe

Syrian refugees
© AP/Lefteris PitarakisSyrian Refugees: Forced to live in Turkey; forced to live in a detention camp.
Delays in registration and limited implementation of temporary protection policies in Turkey mean that many Syrian refugees are left without effective protection or access to jobs and services that they desperately need, Human Rights Watch has said. The European Commission is negotiating a deal under which "irregular migrants" — those not granted asylum — arriving in Greece after March 20, 2016, are relocated back to Turkey, in return — on a one-for-one basis — for Syrian refugees in Turkey being relocated to EU member states.

However, the UN refugee agency UNHCR, Médecins Sans Frontières, the International Rescue Committee, the Norwegian Refugee Council, Save the Children and Red Cross — have said the EU-Turkey deal is either immoral or illegal as the 'hotspots' where migrants are processed have become detention centers. They also say Turkey is not a 'safe country' for migrants to be returned to, under the Geneva Convention.

In a damning report, Human Rights Watch says the laws and policies governing Syrian refugees' lives in Turkey, however, do not grant them full refugee rights, and the protections these laws and policies do extend have yet to be fully realized. As a result, many Syrians in Turkey still cannot access education, health care, and lawful employment. Furthermore, delays of up to six months in registration for temporary protection mean that some refugees are unable to get basic services and live in fear of being forced to live in a camp or deported.

"As Turkey is host to over two million Syrian refugees it is hardly surprising that many are not getting the support they desperately need to maintain livelihoods. The EU is morally, and indeed legally, obliged to share some of the refugee burden by not sending Syrian refugees back to Turkey without assessing their asylum claims," said Stephanie Gee, fellow in the refugee rights program at Human Rights Watch.

Comment: Erdogan made a deal for money and EU favors, not for solutions to a pressing international problem. EU made a deal for a solution to ITS pressing international problem, for money. Syrians: bought or sold, accepted or rejected, it's about 'the deal.' To that end, safety is just a word and protection is just an idea. As Mahmoud, a 29-year-old former journalist from Hama said, "We fled death, but we have come to a place where we have no life."

Culture of inhumanity: Shark dies after beachgoers and lifeguards pull it out of water to take photos

Horrifying footage has emerged of a shark dying after Dominican Republic lifeguards and beachgoers pulled it out of the water in order to take photos with the distressed creature.

The incident is the latest from a disturbing trend of people treating animals as props for holiday snaps.

A video of the incident, which took place on the beaches of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, shows a group of men, including lifeguards from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, run into shallow water with ropes and a small fishing net to capture the blue shark.

They then tie it up on the beach, placing a life buoy around its head and mouth.

Photos later emerged on social media of the men posing with the dead creature, two of which include a team of lifeguards. One even shows some small children happily posing alongside the lifeless shark.

Comment: When the Western leaders show such clear disdain for life and compassion, it's not surprising to see the masses follow suit.

Women's draft? Sign me up to abolish war

Women resist draft
For too long, the women of this nation have been complacent while our brothers, sons, husbands, and fathers are sent to kill, maim, brutalize, destroy and even die in defense of our alleged liberty.

But now, the Senate has passed a $602 billion defense bill that includes an amendment for drafting women. If this bill were in effect today, I would be fined a quarter of a million dollars and face five years in prison for writing these words:

Women: do not register for the draft.

No one - man or woman - should register, or be required to register, for the draft. The draft should be completely eliminated. The military should be dismantled. War should be abolished. The bloated war budget should be returned to our children and students. The military industrial complex should be evicted from our politics and war profiteering should be completely and utterly outlawed.

Comment: National Defense Authorization Act 2017 includes draft for women & indefinite detention of American citizens

US military personnel have committed over 5,800 crimes on Japan's Okinawa Islands since the territory was returned to Japan in 1972, according to police figures cited by protesters rallying against US presence in Japan's southernmost prefecture.

Approximately 65,000 people took part in a rally on Sunday to protest US military personnel crimes in Okinawa, which became the largest demonstration against US presence Okinawa in 20 years.

The protesters signed a petition calling for the withdrawal of US marines corps from Okinawa, which contained the figures taken from Japanese police, the Kyodo news agency reported.

Comment: Looks like the personnel working for the US military have adopted the same behaviors of their leaders, breaking laws and committing serious crimes of violence without any concern whatsoever for the consequences.

Facebook names longtime Netanyahu advisor head of policy and communication in attempt to quell BDS movement

Meet Facebook's latest lobbyist for Israel, Jordana Cutler
A longtime senior adviser to Israeli Prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu has been appointed as Facebook's head of policy and communication in the latest cooperation between the social networking site and the Israeli government to tackle the BDS movement.

Jordana Cutler, also chief of staff at the Israeli embassy in Washington, has joined Facebook's Israel office to oversee the planning and execution of measures taken to combat BDS campaigns.

Cutler's new post was applauded by the minister of public security Gilad Erdan, who announced on Thursday a series of legislative measures taken by his government against promoting the boycott of Israel.

"If we want to convince the world that de-legitimation of Israel is something wrong and that there should be consequences, we must start here in Israel," Erdan was quoted by Israeli media as saying during a conference in Herzliya.

Comment: It should be rather obvious at this point that Facebook is completely in the pockets of the elites and works for their benefit.

Three ranking officials with the New York Police Department have been arrested and charged with violating federal corruption rules, as part of a federal investigations of Mayor Bill de Blasio's campaign fundraising.

Deputy Chief Michael J. Harrington, Deputy Inspector James M. Grant, and former Sergeant David Villanueva, all of the NYPD, were arrested early Monday and are expected to appear Monday afternoon in a Manhattan federal court. Also charged was Jeremiah Reichberg, a Brooklyn businessman and donor to Mayor de Blasio, according to court papers. The charges in the case include bribery, honest services wire fraud, and conspiracy.

Harrington and Grant allegedly accepted bribes, including a 2013 trip to Las Vegas for Super Bowl weekend while accompanied by a prostitute and other "prime seats to sporting events," as well as meals and free domestic and overseas trips, according to court documents.

Reichberg and an unidentified "confidential informant" are accused of supplying Harrington and Grant with improper gifts. The informant was identified in one report as Jona S. Rechnitz, who recently pleaded guilty to corruption charges and then offered information to federal law enforcement, according to the New York Times.

Radioactive drilling waste is 'virtually unregulated': Nobody knows how much is produced or where it is being stored

radioactive fracking waste
© Gleb Garanich / Reuters
States involved in the fracking boom employ a patchwork of laws to deal with radioactive drilling waste, according to a new report. The US government does not fully regulate disposal, and industry is largely left to self-regulate.

The Marcellus Shale in the Appalachian Basin is the center of heightened hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, activity in the US. States along the Marcellus include Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and New York.

These four states handle many tons of radioactive fracking byproduct in a variety of ways, according to a new report by the Center for Public Integrity (CPI), and there is no federal agency that fully regulates drilling waste.

Thus, energy companies and their interests end up taking control in the race to attract more drilling business in the region, experts told CPI.

"Nobody can say how much of any type of waste is being produced, what it is, and where it's ending up," said Nadia Steinzor of the group Earthworks, which is involved in a lawsuit that seeks to compel the US Environmental Protection Agency to take a larger role in tracking and regulating hazardous drilling waste.

Comment: Fracking requires around 3 to 6 million gallons of water for drilling per well. The highly toxic wastewater from fracking poses a major problem as it cannot be used for anything else. Contamination of drinking water supplies, as well as rivers, lakes and streams from improper storage, leaks and spills is widespread.
