After counting the potholes on the New Jersey Turnpike, Gov. Chris Christie declared a state of emergency over the condition of the Garden State's roads. He ordered officials to shut down all current work after lawmakers failed to reach a funding deal.

Christie issued the executive order declaring the emergency late Thursday, the day when the Senate negotiations to save the Transportation Trust Fund - which is expected to run out of money this summer - failed.

Christie said that he is instructing the New Jersey Department of Transportation to shut down all work by the end of Saturday that isn't directly essential to the safety and welfare of citizens.

"As this executive order states, in order to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of this state, it is necessary that the remaining amounts held by the TTF not be spent on any transportation project that is not absolutely essential," Christie said in a statement.

UK Labour Party sees 60,000 new members join since Brexit announcement in support of Jeremy Corbyn

Tens of thousands of new supporters have joined the Labour Party in the past week, despite two thirds of the Parliamentary party launching a coup against left-wing leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Labour Party officials claim that 60,000 new members have joined the party since the EU referendum results were announced last Friday. The figure is said to represent one of the fastest rises in membership of any political party in British history.

The surge puts Labour's new total member base at 450,000 - higher than its last peak of 440,000 under former Prime Minister Tony Blair.

This figure dwarfs other political parties in the UK, with the Liberal Democrats currently fairing at around 70,000 members and the last available Conservative membership figures putting the total at 134,000.

Of the new intake, 20,000 have been checked and more than half are said to have joined to support Corbyn in a potential leadership challenge.

Comment: The people clearly are happy with the job that Corbyn is doing. Despite that, the elites in the UK would like a more pro-Empire leader there and may have even orchestrated the recent Brexit as a way to remove him from power:

A strong majority of Democrats would cancel the 2016 presidential election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump if it meant President Obama could serve another term, a new poll found.

Data provided to The Hill by the conservative polling outlet WPA Research found that 67 percent of Democrats would take a third term for Obama over a potential Clinton administration.

Only 28 percent said they're ready to move on from the Obama White House, while 6 percent are undecided.

Beheadings, destroyed churches and constant fear: Christian families in Raqqa describe horror of life under ISIS terrorists

ISIS raqqa
Fighters from the Islamic State group parade in Raqqa, north Syria, June 30, 2014. Islamic State militants are cracking down on the few remaining Christians and preventing them from leaving Raqqa, Syria, local activists told VOA on April 5, 2016.
Excepts from an article by Carey Lodge in Christianity Today June 28, 2016.

John (name changed for protection), a student in his early 20s, recalled in an interview with persecution charity Open Doors the day that Raqqa was overrun by Islamic State on 13 January 2014.
"They were coming from Iraq with tanks, military vehicles, and even a big rocket that was at least five metres in length," he said. "It was very intimidating".
ISIS militants gathered together the church leaders in Raqqa and gave them the now infamous ultimatum leveled at Christians all over its self-proclaimed caliphate: flee, convert to Islam, or pay the 'jizya' tax for the right to remain in the city.

At the beginning of 2014 there were around 1,500 Christian families living in Raqqa. After ISIS took over, just 50 remained; the rest having chosen to flee.

John's family, forbidden from selling or renting their property and afraid of losing their business, decided to stay and pay the jizya, which was initially 54,000 Syrian pounds per man. Last year, that figure more than trebled.

The female prison population in the US has grown 800 percent

Holly Harris may wear cowboy boots to work, but the Kentucky mom and Executive Director for the US Justice Action Network (USJAN) is far from your average southerner.

This past Saturday, June 25th, Harris talked about her work to a group of journalists and bloggers who traveled to Washington D.C. from different corners of the country to hear from leaders of the criminal justice reform movement. Harris was the first speaker at FreedomWorks' #JusticeForAll event, and as the leader of USJAN, she set the tone for what turned out to be a fascinating conference.

The veteran litigator opened her speech by outlining USJAN's goals, explaining the organization believes "our [criminal] code just doesn't make sense." That's why their "goal is to shrink criminal codes" and "get rid of these unfair, unnecessary duplicative and inconsistent laws."

But it was something else she told the crowd a few minutes later that got attendees worked up.

You too can be cannon fodder: Pentagon lifts ban on transgender troops

Transgender people will be allowed to serve openly in the U.S. military, the Pentagon announced Thursday, ending one of the last bans on service in the armed forces.

Saying it's the right thing to do, Defense Secretary Ash Carter laid out a yearlong implementation plan declaring that "Americans who want to serve and can meet our standards should be afforded the opportunity to compete to do so."

"Our mission is to defend this country, and we don't want barriers unrelated to a person's qualification to serve preventing us from recruiting or retaining the soldier, sailor, airman, or Marine who can best accomplish the mission," Carter said at a Pentagon news conference.

Under the new policy, by Oct. 1, transgender troops already serving should be able to receive medical care and begin formally changing their gender identifications in the Pentagon's personnel system.

Military base goes on lockdown when someone mistakes training exercise for active shooter event

lockdown joint andrews base
A training exercise at Joint Base Andrews yesterday went haywire when someone mistook a routine inspection for an active shooter event and the base went into lockdown. Within minutes, the repeaters of the mockingbird media were reporting it as an active shooter event. And they wonder why "conspiracy theorists" insist on pointing out the overlaps between drills and real world events...

UK hate crimes skyrocket 500% after Brexit

hate crime
Since the Leave camp won the Brexit vote a week ago, there has been a staggering fivefold increase in hate crimes reported to a national website, UK police say. Local officials have also noted a surge in both physical and verbal attacks on migrants.

"Since last Thursday, 331 hate crime incidents have been reported to the national online reporting site True Vision compared to the weekly average of 63 reports," Sara Thornton, head of the NPCC, wrote, adding that, although "many people are reporting hate crime than ever before," it remains "significantly under reported."

While Thornton stressed that it is hard to tell how many of those cases are directly linked to the referendum, the national community tensions team has also noted a surge in anti-immigrant abuse. In just one week, migrants have reported "verbal abuse, negative social media commentary including xenophobic language, anti-migrant leafleting and, in very limited numbers, physical assaults."

Expressing frustration, Thornton said she was "shocked and disgusted"by the upsurge. She is urging those who have been subject to abuse not to "suffer in silence," stressing that by not reporting and giving in to bullies, victims only contribute to an atmosphere of fear.

Comment: There is much controversy on Brexit as to the intentions of those in power in regard to the 'Leave' vote. In this article we may be seeing one manifestation: the unleashing of hate and xenophobia and ushering in a new level of chaos among the people

A northern Minnesota man faces a murder charge for allegedly beating and decapitating a man he believed raped his girlfriend.

According to a criminal complaint, Joseph Christen Thoresen beat David Haiman with a baseball bat, stabbed him, then used a machete to decapitate him as Haiman was groaning on the ground. Thoresen then dragged Haiman's torso and threw his head into the woods, the complaint says.

The girlfriend told police that the group had smoked meth before the attack, the complaint said.

Thoresen, 35, made his initial appearance Wednesday on a murder charge in Itasca County District Court and remained in custody. Online court records do not list an attorney to comment on his behalf.

Haiman, 20, of Hibbing, had been reported missing Saturday after he didn't show up for work and hadn't been seen for five days, the complaint said. His torso and head were found Sunday.
