House Speaker Paul Ryan says the Republican Party is revamping its alternative plan to Obama's health care law to include a work requirement for the Medicaid program for the poor and boost benefits to older Americans.

Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Ryan said he was confident about bringing the American Health Care Act before the House of Representatives on Thursday and was addressing concerns raised by rank-and-file Republicans.

He told Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace that he feels "very good" about the bill ahead of Thursday's vote, vowing to make good on the Republican party's promise to "repeal and replace this faulty collapsing law."

Comment: "Ryancare" no better than Obamacare: Can we please now try single payer?

"I was ready to disapprove of him, but pretty much everything he said I agreed with": Peterson gets warm welcome at Western after protests at McMaster

Driven from McMaster University campus in Hamilton by an angry mob just the day before, Jordan Peterson was welcomed at Western University, like a rock star.

The controversial University of Toronto professor saw his hour-long speech interrupted only by bursts of applause from the more than 700 that packed the natural sciences building. His speech ended with a standing ovation, and after, he was mobbed outside for selfies from the adoring crowd, mostly young men, more than a few sporting hats declaring Make America Great Again.

Psycho at work - Beheaded turtles found washed up on Greek beach

The bodies of ten beheaded turtles have been found washed up on the same beach over two months leading to a cruelty warning.

The turtles mutilated bodies were found on Plaka beach on Naxos Island in Greece.

Archelon, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece has said it believes that number is too high to suggest the animals were accidentally killed.

'We believe that the percentage of dead turtles without head in the same area (Plaka) is large enough to be a coincidence,' the organisation said.

It is calling on people to help authorities stop anyone who is killing the reptiles on purpose, Tomos News reported.

A case emerged last year when a dead turtle was discovered with a breeze block tied around its head.

Disgusting! Police slam handcuffed man's face to ground & watch him bleed (VIDEO)

Texarkana police
There's only one reason, and one reason only, that emergency medical services (EMS) were in William Moser's jail cell, after he was arrested for being drunk in public in Texarkana, Arkansas. He had been assaultedby Garland County Detention Center deputies, had his forehead busted open, and needed medical attention which only the hospital could offer.

According to Moser's attorney and surveillance footage, he was in his jail cell, asking guards if he could make his one phone call to his wife so she'd know where he was. From the video, one can clearly see Moser was being compliant when the three officers entered his cell.

Moser made no attempts to fight, was standing patiently it seems, yet had been placed face forward into the back wall of his cell. All of a sudden, one of the officers grabbed Moser, turned him, and slammed him to the floor. From the video footage, it seems Moser may have made contact with a corner of the wall, which split open his forehead.

How pornography and the sexualization of children are distorting our kids' perceptions

© Anna Parini
Like everyone else growing up in the 70's, I was not immune to the messages that bombarded us constantly from television, the media and our culture at large. Even with the dawn of feminism in the US — and a good amount of opportunity with sports and outdoor time in nature — I still absorbed plenty of questionable information about what it meant to be female. My favorite toy — Barbie — is a perfect example of how we are subtly, yet profoundly, conditioned by unreal, overly sexualized images. To this day, I still crave the abnormally long legs and thin waist of that doll! And fashion magazines are some of the worst offenders in promoting warped ideals of femininity.

Fortunately, I realized at the age of 17 that the only purpose of those magazines was to damage self-image with their unrealistic portrayal of beauty, and to promote a voracious appetite for shopping — selling us products that help us conform to that skewed ideal of "beautiful". From that day forward, I never purchased another fashion magazine again, and was far happier for it. But kids today (and over the last decade or so) are not as lucky.

Our kids are enrolled at Mollycoddle University

Back in my college career, it was considered a good day if you weren't teargassed.

No more. Sure there are still tears, but they are more crocodilian than courageous.

We mollycoddle our kids. Universities are turning them into cogs in the Age of the Victim. Two examples this week, one protecting the poor innocent dears from free speech, the other sparing them the fear of fat.

Oh, the humanities. Let's start with free speech 101.

If you have kids at Western, you may have heard that controversial prof Jordan Peterson is giving a talk there next Saturday.

Luckily, there's a safe haven to retreat to with their ravaged psyches after the awful man speaks.

"Sensitivity trained" volunteers are standing by in the university's Peer Support Centre.

Who knew pronouns could cause such pain? Who knew today's collegians were so easily traumatized?

Mosul family fleeing sniper fire loses 10yo child to IED

Mosul family flees airstrike

An Iraqi family from Mosul, one of hundreds caught in crossfire of the US-supported operation in the city, told Ruptly how a coalition airstrike forced them out of their home, only to face sniper fire and a fatal IED.

RT's Ruptly video agency caught up with Am Hamdan at the Iraqi Special Operations Forces 2 field hospital in western Mosul, where they arrived after fleeing the frontline. Their family was too afraid to stay after a coalition airstrike hit a house next to theirs, which was damaged in the blast.

"The concrete fell on us and we went out running to the main road. There was a sniper on top of a building on that road, I don't know if it was an IS sniper or an army sniper. He said 'go back' and he started shooting at us," she told Ruptly.

The family hid at their cousin's home and early Sunday morning, decided to risk going to a safer area. That decision proved to be fatal.

"My husband crossed the road and the IED exploded, they were behind us, nothing happened to us, but they got hurt and my son died. Omar was 10 years old," Hamdan said. "My son was hit in the blast, both his legs and both his arms. This is what happened to us."

Comment:
Refugee camps and detention centers will inevitably overflow as the operation to retake western Mosul unfolds. There are still some 700,000 people still trapped in the densely populated western neighborhoods of the city.
