'No other place to take them': Devastated Mosul hospital struggling to treat injured patients

A hospital near western Mosul is struggling to operate again after the devastation left behind by retreating Islamic State fighters. For many civilians hurt in the crossfire as Iraqi forces are fighting to take the city from the jihadists, it's the only place to come for treatment.

The Qayyara hospital is located in a small town some 60km south from Mosul. It was fully liberated from IS (formerly ISIS/ISIL) in August 2016, but the Islamists made sure to live nothing valuable behind.

"Unfortunately, as you saw, the hospital was completely destroyed. All the instruments, equipment and all their beds were stolen and the things they couldn't steal, such as the machine behind me, they broke it before they ran away," Dr. Mansour Maarouf told RT as he showed the camera crew around the premises.

Monitoring software FlexiSPY, marketed at paranoid partners attempting to catch their other halves cheating, may have been provided to governments in countries including Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain according to a new leak.

Documents leaked to Motherboard, allegedly sourced from inside the organization, show the extent of FlexiSPY's use and profitability.

The controversial software, built by a small company based in Thailand and described as "Stalkerware" may have been used in another piece of software built by British-German surveillance company Gamma, according to a 2011 document within the leak, cited by Motherboard.

The document described staff from FlexiSPY as assisting Gamma staff with the installation of the software 'Cyclops,' used on Gamma's own surveillance program known as FinSpy.

Is a second American Civil War inevitable?

civil war
America has always had its divisions, and Americans have never really been a monolith. We've always been a nation of many nations. The culture of New England is different from the culture of the Deep South, which is different from the cultures in the West Coast or the Midwest. People living in the cities have different beliefs than people who live in the countryside. Within those areas, there are ethnic, linguistic, and religious enclaves. It's always kind of been like that (probably to a lesser degree in the past), and somehow we've been able to find enough common ground to keep this country together for more than a century.

However, something has changed. You can feel it in the air. Our nation has clearly never been this divided since the Civil War. A lot of people noticed it after the last election, but the truth is that these divisions have been deepening for decades, and they're just now reaching a very noticeable breaking point. That's obvious enough when you look at how the left and the right have been going at each other. It used to be a war of words, but it's turning into something very dark.

Comment: And all this is just how the elites would have it - so that the oppressed 99% is at each other's throats instead of doing something about those who are creating the horrible conditions on the ground. But at the end of the day, this might change too. That is, a certain percentage of the civilian populace may wise up and go directly after the puppet masters and their state-run organs and personnel in an attempt to shut down those elements of the government most responsible for helping to create a hell on earth.

Tear gas, smoke grenades & flares used at Paris protest ahead of presidential election

French policemen
Members of dozens of French unions and civil groups have taken to the streets of Paris ahead of Sunday's presidential vote, protesting what they call a "political masquerade." Police deployed tear gas after protesters used smoke grenades and flares.

While France is observing pre-election silence on Saturday ahead of the first round of the voting, crowds have been marching through the streets of Paris rejecting the policies of all the candidates leading in the polls.

Some 2,000 people took part in the protest, according to estimates from the organizers, which included some 70 groups and organizations, TASS reported.

The protesters demand that more attention be paid to the needs of French society's lower income people, TASS reported.

Convicted Egyptian terrorist stripped of US citizenship, ties to Bin Laden

terrorist
The US government has revoked the citizenship of an Egyptian-born man who confessed to recruiting for Al-Qaeda while living in California for 12 years. The former Silicon Valley car salesman is serving a 15-year prison sentence for terrorism in Egypt.

Khaled Abu al-Dahab, 57, lost his naturalized citizenship and any rights related to it by order of Judge Beryl A. Howell of the US District Court for the District of Columbia, the Department of Justice said in a statement on Thursday.

Al-Dahab was arrested and convicted on terrorism charges in Egypt in 1998, and confessed to being a member of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad (EIJ), an affiliate of Al-Qaeda. He also confessed to running an "Al-Qaeda communications hub" from his apartment in Santa Clara, California and recruiting Americans for the terrorist group, with Osama Bin Laden personally praising his work.

Comment: As per Wikipedia:
An Egyptian medical student, Khaled Abu el-Dahab (Abul-Dahab) was arrested and convicted of terrorism. He is alleged to have been a right-hand man to Ali Mohamed, who had been an American CIA agent and Special Forces soldier.

Ali Mohamed travelled north from California with el-Dehab, who later told Egyptian interrogators he had withdrawn US$3,000 from a Californian bank account on orders of Osama bin Laden himself, to offer as bail money to lawyer Phil Rankin. The pair hoped to have Essam Marzouk released and possibly smuggle him into the United States.

In 2002, Abul-Dahab confessed to Egyptian interrogators that he had funded the 1995 attack on the Egyptian Embassy in Pakistan on orders from bin Laden, and had transferred money from a Californian bank account to Pakistan to finance the attack.

Danish intelligence services have warned Denmark's soldiers to beware of sexy Russian girls and rowdy Russkies in bars when deployed in Estonia, as they are just two of the myriad of threats Moscow supposedly poses to the Baltic countries.

Denmark is to send 200 of its troops to Estonia later this year as part of NATO's confidence-boosting mission in the Baltic republic. The Danish Defense Intelligence Service (DDIS) has warned that the soldiers should be aware that Russian women could turn out to be spies who lure them into honey traps, while rowdy bar patrons could try to provoke them into a fight.

"DDIS evaluates that the threat from harassment and intimidation campaigns against the Danish forces will be high," according to Copenhagen Post.
