A school teacher is believed to have saved the life of a three-year-old girl, the sole survivor of a recent plane crash in the Russian Far East, by covering the child with her body. Locals are now asking for a posthumous award for the teacher.

Olga Laponnikova, a teacher in the local school in the Russian Far Eastern village of Nelkan, was traveling in the L-410 passenger plane along with five other passengers and two crew members. Seated next to her was a three-year-old girl. The child was the only person to survive when the plane plummeted a reported 600 meters during landing - apparently thanks to the teacher's actions.

"She covered the girl with her own body," the school's headteacher, Nina Pakhomova, told Ruptly, barely keeping herself from breaking into tears. "That's how she was found, lying on top of the girl. She couldn't do otherwise, even in that situation. Even knowing that that was it, her goal was to save the child. I only want her to be awarded, posthumously."

Disregard for human life: Video released of staff laughing at WWII veteran as he dies, screams in pain

Nurse
A World War II veteran confined to a nursing home died while his calls for help went unanswered- and the whole thing was caught on hidden camera.

The incident took place at a Northeast Atlanta Health and Rehabilitation in 2014 , but the footage has only recently been made public by the family as part of a lawsuit.

89-year-old James Dempsey -who served his country during World War II- called for help six times, saying he couldn't breathe.

When he finally became unresponsive, former nursing supervisor Wanda Nuckles approached the scene after being notified by another nurse.

Myra Hindley and Ian Brady, both now dead, lured at least five children away to their deaths and buried them on Saddleworth Moor above Manchester in the 1960s.

One of the children they targeted, 'latchkey kid' Tommy Rhattigan, was seven when he was approached by a woman with a blond beehive - who he now knows was Hindley - while on playground swings in the dark.

'There was this coyness about her,' he said. 'She asked why was I here on my own, was I afraid of the dark. I can still smell the perfume and hairspray and her eyes, these blue eyes looked really kind.'

Three men with previous links to a neo-Nazi organization have been jailed in connection with bomb attacks in the Gothenburg area last winter.

The three men were charged last month in connection with a series of bomb incidents, including a blast at a refugee centre on January 5th this year which left an immigration office staff member seriously injured.

Two months earlier, on November 11th, a bomb went off outside the Syndikalistiskt Forum Kafe, a well-known far-left haunt. No one was injured in that blast.

Then an explosive device was found on January 25th at a campground which was temporarily housing migrants. It failed to detonate.

Comment: Hmmm, there may be more to this 'immigrant-Muslims-are-behind-the-uptick-in-violence-in-Sweden' story than meets the eye.

President Poroshenko promised Ukraine would 'live in a new way' - citizens increasingly turning to shoplifting

President of Ukraine Pyotr Poroshenko promised the Ukrainians that they would "live in a new way" under his leadership. Indeed, the time has passed, now every Ukrainian feels all the 'delights' of European life.

According to Ukrainian media, statistics have been published, which says that stores lose about 1 - 1.5% of profit precisely because of theft. Store directors note that every year the theft is increasing, because prices are inexorably growing, so some are simply forced to take such a step. However, there are those who make money on this.

Border Patrol chief says agents now ''empowered" under Trump

Carla Provost

Border Patrol Chief Carla Provost said the Trump administration's rhetoric regarding protecting America's borders in the face of illegal immigration has a lot of agents "feeling empowered to actually enforce the laws that are on the books."

Provost, who's been with the agency for nearly 23 years, said "the men and women out there really just want to enforce those laws that they have been trained to enforce, that've been - and I think they feel empowered to do their jobs now."

"From the Border Patrol perspective right now, having that support and having the ability to go out and do the job that they were hired for is certainly bringing up their morale," Provost told Politico's "Women Rule" podcast recently.

Provost is the first woman to lead the U.S. Border Patrol in its 93-year history. She was named the agency's acting chief earlier this year after serving as deputy under Ronald Vitiello, who is now acting deputy commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, which oversees the Border Patrol.

While she acknowledges her role is a milestone for women in the agency, Provost said she's reluctant to wear it as a badge of honor for all to see. She said, instead, she sees no difference between male and female agents.

A Los Angeles radio host accused Senator Al Franken, a Democratic senator from Minnesota, of kissing and groping her during a 2006 USO tour in the Middle East. She posted a photo on her Twitter account to support her claim.

"He groped me, without my consent, while I was asleep," broadcaster Leeann Tweeden wrote on Thursday. Her account includes a photo of Franken posing for the camera as he reaches for Tweeden's breasts while she appears to be asleep. She also accused Franken of kissing her against her will.

A collection of five unique diamonds, cut in Russia from a single 179-carat crystal, has dazzled connoisseurs in New York. Priced at some $10 million, the set includes Russia's most expensive and clearest stone ever produced.

"These are perfect gemstones. Russia has never seen such a quality before," said Pavel Vinikhin, the CEO of the diamond division of the Russian mining giant Alrosa. The exhibition in Carnegie Hall was the diamonds' final stop before they go on sale in an online auction on November 29. The New York venue winds up the roadshow that saw the gems displayed in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok, Hong Kong and Israel.

Assaults against Muslims in U.S. have surpassed 2001 level

anti-Muslim assaults US
The number of assaults against Muslims in the United States rose significantly between 2015 and 2016, easily surpassing the modern peak reached in 2001, the year of the September 11 terrorist attacks, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of new hate crimes statistics from the FBI. In 2016, there were 127 reported victims of aggravated or simple assault, compared with 91 the year before and 93 in 2001.

But assaults are not the only form of hate crime carried out against Muslims and other religious groups. The most common is intimidation, which is defined as reasonable fear of bodily harm. Anti-Muslim intimidation also increased in 2016, with 144 reported victims, compared with 120 the previous year. These numbers, however, are still dwarfed by the 296 victims of anti-Muslim intimidation in 2001.

Comment: Who's responsible for the rising number of anti-Muslim hate crimes in the US?

Cop snaps, drags man from car, beats him for no reason, and fellow officer tries to cover it up (VIDEO)

Joe Joswiak Minnesota cop attack
Dashcam video of a senselessly violent assault by a cop on a then 21-year-old Laotian American was released earlier this year and quickly became the subject of an ACLU report and subsequent lawsuit. The video shows Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force Agent Joe Joswiak stop Anthony Promvongsa in Worthington, Minnesota and immediately begin a violent attack.

This week, the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota filed an excessive force lawsuit against the Worthington Police Department, the Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force and the City of Worthington along with a number of individual officers on behalf of their client, Anthony Promvongsa a local Worthington resident. Promvongsa was assaulted by Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force Officer Joe Joswiak in Worthington in 2016.

The beating was captured on another officer's dashcam who is caught disabling the audio to cover up Joswiak's insanely violent fury.
