This is how you impose an unpopular and ineffective environmentalist policy that will hit the poorest citizens hardest, is bound to create a host of unintended consequences, and is founded on speculative science to begin with.

You are a centrist government in a democratic Western country. You want to be seen to be taking action on the environment, but you believe in consumer capitalism, and therefore wouldn't dare to dismantle the profit-making machinery that actually contributes most of the CO2 within your economy. You praise the ideals of the Green New Deal, only because you know it will never become reality.

Your target must be insignificant economically, yet high-profile in its symbolic value. Meat works perfectly. Eating it already has an aura of hedonistic licentiousness, and restricting consumption covers several bases - animal cruelty, public health, and most importantly, climate change resulting from intensive livestock farming. You will get years of headlines, just as when you banned plastic bags or forced people to pay deposits on plastic bottles.

Mercedes caught 'spying on drivers with secret tracking devices'

Mercedes-Benz has found itself at the center of an apparently illegal spying operation, following reports that it installed tracking devices on thousands of vehicles and shared customer location data with third parties.

According to the Sun, Mercedes-Benz fitted secret sensors to all new and used vehicles sold through its official dealers from as far back as 2018.

These sensors can pinpoint a vehicle's location and the data is then transmitted to a central location. Both the driver and car information can then be passed to bailiffs who can then seize and repossess the vehicle from indebted drivers at will.

The company sold more than 170,000 new cars in Britain this year, roughly 80 percent of which are reportedly sold on finance plans.

Miss Nevada says she was banned from competing in the upcoming Miss America beauty contest because of her refusal to hide her support for President Trump.

"I was officially disqualified from competing in the Miss America pageant for 2019," said Katie Jo Williams in an Instagram video. She says organizers told her she was "too political" to be involved.

Williams asked what she could do to resolve the issue, and was told the only recourse was to delete everything she had posted on social media.

The director of the pageant sent screenshots which included pictures of Williams in her Trump 2020 hat, professing her love for America and her opposition to Antifa, making it clear that they all needed to be erased.

A pub is to give away 100 free meals to hungry children every day for the rest of summer, in an attempt to help poor families struggling through the six-week holidays.

The hot dinners will be cooked up and dished out at the Crown Inn in Keynsham, Somerset.

The initiative is aimed at helping families who receive free school meals during term time and find themselves struggling with the extra economic burden during the elongated break.


Comment: Feeding your children ONE extra meal is an actual 'economic burden' for many in the UK in 2019.

A police officer attending a burglary was dragged beneath a van for several hundred yards before being hit by a police dog vehicle responding to the incident, according to reports.

PC Andrew Harper, 28, was attending the scene in Sulhamstead, near Reading, before being dragged down the road when he was hit by a Seat 'getaway' van at 11.30pm on Thursday.

The newlywed officer, who married fiancée Lissie four weeks ago, was thrown from the vehicle's undercarriage before being struck by a police vehicle thought to have been part of a dog unit taking part in the pursuit, The Times reported.

A witness said he heard an officer yelling: 'Stay with me, stay with me, keep breathing,' as PC Harper lay fatally injured in the road.

Ten people - including a boy of 13 - have been arrested after what Prime Minister Boris Johnson described as a 'mindless and brutal' crime.

Yesterday officers were seen attending a nearby Travellers' site near Burghfield, where inquiries were carried out in relation to the incident.

It's rare to get a billionaire to share their grand plans for the future, which is weird because billionaires pretty much rule the world. Whenever they do, though, it's always something incredibly sociopathic, like replacing all jobs with billionaire-owned automation/AI and giving people a Universal Basic Income set by the billionaire-owned government. Or loading all the humans onto rocket ships and sending them to live on Amazon Space Dildos.

Billionaire Elon Musk, who hates unions and wants to implant AI into human brains, has been continuing this trend of idiotic plutocratic futurology with a new campaign to detonate nuclear weapons on the planet Mars. This is not because Musk hates Mars, but because he wants to colonize it; the idea is to vaporize the red planet's polar ice caps and throw carbon dioxide into the air to ultimately make the planet more habitable.

Scientists are voicing skepticism that such a plan could even work, before even opening up the "Just because you can doesn't mean that you should" debate. Sending nuclear weapons into space for any reason whatsoever should receive an outright rejection from all of humanity, since getting nukes into earth's orbit has been the wet dream of war machine engineers for decades and pretending they went to Mars would serve as an ideal cover story to circumvent international space treaties until it's too late to prevent it.

NYPD cop Daniel Panatelo has been fired for causing the death of Eric Garner, Police Commissioner James O'Neill announced Monday.

"The unintended consequence of Mr. Garner's death must have a consequence of its own," O'Neill said.

"It is clear that Daniel Pantaleo can no longer effectively serve as a New York City police officer."

O'Neill's widely expected decision to fire the embattled cop endorsed the recommendation of a deputy commissioner who presided over Pantaleo's departmental trial earlier this year.

It also came after Mayor Bill de Blasio proclaimed that Garner's family was "going to get justice ... in the next 30 days" during a Democratic presidential primary debate on July 31.

Garner's July 17, 2014, death became a rallying cry for the Black Lives Matter movement after cellphone video captured him repeatedly yelling "I can't breathe!" while being arrested on suspicion of illegally selling loose cigarettes on Staten Island.

A 55-year-old woman was murdered by witch doctors during the process of exorcism in Sapahi village under Ramana police station, around 35 kilometres away from the district headquarter, on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Rudani Devi, a native of Kon Mandra village under Ramana police station.

Son of the deceased, Binesh Oraon lodged an FIR against exorcist Alama Devi and her son Sakendra Oraon.

Binesh mentioned in the FIR that on August 15, his mother was taken to a witch doctor at Sapahi village by his two brothers Dhanesh Oraon and Dinesh Oraon and their wives Vinita and Guddi and his own wife for exorcism.

He informed that on Saturday night during the exorcism, the witch doctor took his mother to a separate room and stabbed her with a trident. Ramana thana in-charge Gosnar Dhan confirmed the information and said, "Police has taken both the accused into custody and are interrogating them."

Work till you die: Tory think tank proposes raising pension age to 75

The state pension age should be raised to 75 within the next 16 years to help boost the UK economy, according to a Tory think tank.

In a new report, the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) has proposed an increase of the pension age to 70 by 2028 and 75 by 2035.

The pension age is already set to increase to 67 by 2028 and to 68 by 2046 - but the organisation, co-founded by former Conservative leader and work and pensions secretary Iain Duncan-Smith, wants to see a faster increase.


Comment: So it's hardly an unbiased organization. As for Ian Duncan-Smith, he's known to have presided over the revamped and botched UK's benefit system that deemed thousands of disabled people 'fit for work' who subsequently died, many while still waiting to receive their benefits: UK: Man declared 'fit for work' by Jobcentre dies on way home from assessment


The CSJ's latest report said evidence suggested the UK was "not responding to the needs and potential" of an ageing workforce, with hundreds of thousands of people aged 50 to 64 seen as "economically inactive".

Comment: Meanwhile the poorest in society are seeing their life expectancy decrease, and the majority are seeing their living standards tank. MPs, however, voted to give themselves 6 pay rises over 6 years, and they can look forward to an early and quite generous retirement package.
