Korean women target US military in landmark forced prostitution lawsuit

More than 100 South Korean women forced to work as prostitutes for US soldiers stationed in the country have filed a landmark lawsuit accusing Washington of abuse, their lawyers said Tuesday.

Historians and activists say tens of thousands of South Korean women worked for state-sanctioned brothels from the 1950s to 1980s, serving US troops stationed in country to protect the South from North Korea.

In 2022, South Korea's top court ruled that the government had illegally "established, managed and operated" such brothels for the US military, ordering it to pay around 120 plaintiffs compensation.

Last week, 117 victims filed a fresh lawsuit, this time officially accusing -- and seeking an apology from -- the US military, for the first time. The lawsuit seeks 10 million won ($7,200) in compensation per victim.

Unlike the better-known "comfort women" used by Japanese soldiers until the end of World War II, those who worked for the US troops have received relatively limited attention, largely due to Washington being Seoul's key and longtime security ally.

Game Over

Charlie Kirk's death is a game-changer. It really shouldn't be because people are dying every day due to the mindlessness of this game, but for whatever reason, being gunned down at a public rally like he was shifts perceptions and realities quite a bit.

When all this first happened, I saw that many online commentaries were refusing to call it an assassination, claiming that assassinations were reserved for political figures.

One source says:
The term 'assassination' specifically refers to the targeted killing of a prominent public figure for political, ideological, or symbolic reasons, often implying premeditation and motive tied to the victim's influence or beliefs."
Well, in my eyes, this was an assassination. But I suppose until we hear from the killer, we can't be certain of the motivation. Duh. Why would anyone want to kill this guy unless it was politically motivated? Sure, it could only be in the mind of the "lone gunman" acting purely on his or her (or they, or zir, or xe) own volition. Could it be a conspiracy involving many individuals or groups with an ideological or political reason? Duh again. Of course, if that is the case, we will probably never hear about it.

That brings me to another popular view: That Mr. Kirk is not actually dead, and this was all part of the Deep State's plan to cause a ruckus in the populace. More hate and division as a result, or, more likely, just more confusion as to what the hell the New World Order/Deep State/Luciferian conspirators are up to and what they are trying to put into play. Got me.

"Game Over" for me means all of this insanity we have been seeing for five years no longer has any sort of "game" quality to it. Actually, it never did, that's for sure, but it still often carried a video game vibe to the political antics we were seeing day in and day out. Sure, if you stand back far enough and shield your vulnerable heart effectively, so that you can see all this with little emotion, it can still be a game.

After all, people die rather miserably in video games, why not in this game?

Ooops. The Left forgot cancel culture cuts both ways: Workers being fired for celebrating Charlie Kirk assassination

Inappropriate comments about Charlie Kirk assassination gets workers fired

A growing number of individuals are facing professional consequences, from being fired or placed on administrative leave, for public comments they made in the wake of the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

After the 31-year-old CEO of Turning Point USA was shot and killed during an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, a growing list of political leaders, business figures and media outlets across the spectrum condemned the political violence.

But others cited Kirk's political views as a reason not to mourn his death, which critics argued minimized or excused the violence. At the same time, others used it as an opportunity to highlight the rise in shootings, particularly those claiming the lives of children.

Comment: What has been terrifying to observe on social media is the number of teachers, doctors, nurses, and social workers who have joined in the frenzy. The very people who comprise the "helping professions." The judiciary is just as bad. It is living documentation of the decades-long capture of the education system by the radical left. The Long March is real.

Authorities have released a "person of interest" as they search for the suspect who shot and killed Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, while he was speaking at an event for his "American Comeback Tour"
Progressives are celebrating his murder all over social media

Of the millions of words Charlie Kirk contributed to American public discourse, the last two before he was murdered distilled his life's work almost perfectly.

His t-shirt bore the word "freedom." His final word, uttered a split second before an assassin's bullet tore into his neck, was "violence."

Kirk was precocious enough from his early 20s to grasp the relationship between the two. If people cannot debate differences of opinion in a civil and robust manner, violence has, throughout history and with alarming speed, shown itself to be the logical next step. "When people stop talking, really bad stuff starts," he once reminded a blue-haired antagonist at a college campus debate.

Charlie Kirk Was Not Divisive, But MSNBC Is

charlie kirk
MSNBC found itself in crisis tonight after political analyst Matthew Dowd suggested that Charlie Kirk — the conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder who was assassinated on Wednesday — had somehow "brought it on himself."

Dowd told anchor Katy Tur that Kirk has "been one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups."

He continued, suggesting somehow Kirk brought the killing on himself and had contributed to a climate where violence was inevitable: "And I always go back to, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions."

The backlash was swift. MSNBC's own president, Rebecca Kutler, apologized on air and on social media, calling Dowd's remarks "inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable." Even Dowd himself walked them back. And rightly so. Because here's the irony: if anyone in this story was being divisive, it was Dowd.

Ghoulish Ukrainians online celebrate Charlie Kirk's assassination: 'Epic

Some social media users have praised the killing of the conservative American, who was sharply critical of the government in Kiev

Ukrainian social media users have openly celebrated the assassination of conservative American activist Charlie Kirk.

Kirk, a prominent critic of Ukraine's Vladimir Zelensky and of former US President Joe Biden's push to send hundreds of billions of dollars of military aid to Kiev, was shot in the neck on Wednesday during a public campus event in Orem, Utah.

Though mainstream Ukrainian media reported the killing in a largely neutral tone, providing basic facts and noting Kirk's criticisms of Kiev, numerous online posts from accounts with Ukrainian names expressed approval and even delight.

Comment: Kirk's assessment of Zelensky was spot on. But it was not likely the irritant that settled Kirk's tragic fate. He made the fatal mistake of starting to think for himself after noticing the biggest elephant in the geopolitical room:

'We took the gloves off': ex-IDF chief confirms Gaza casualties over 200,000

Retired general Herzi Halevi says 'not once' had legal advice constrained Israel's military decisions in the strip.

A former Israeli army commander, Herzi Halevi, has confirmed that more than 200,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured in the war in Gaza, and that "not once" in the course of the conflict were military operations inhibited by legal advice.

Halevi stepped down as chief of staff in March after leading the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for the first 17 months of the war, which is now approaching its second anniversary.

The retired general told a community meeting in southern Israel earlier this week that more than 10% of Gaza's 2.2 million population had been killed or injured - "more than 200,000 people". That estimate is notable as it is close to the current figures provided by Gaza's health ministry, which Israeli officials have frequently dismissed as Hamas propaganda, though the ministry figures have been deemed reliable by international humanitarian agencies.

The current official toll is 64,718 Palestinians killed in Gaza and 163,859 injured, since the start of the war on 7 October 2023. Many thousands more are feared dead, with their bodies buried in the rubble. At least 40 people were reported killed on Friday in Israeli strikes, mostly around Gaza City.

The Gaza ministry statistics do not distinguish between civilians and fighters, but leaked Israeli military intelligence data on casualties until May this year suggested that more than 80% of the dead were civilians.

US Democratic Party is 'America's Ukraine' - Dugin on Charlie Kirk's murder

Dugin

The assassination has united the MAGA movement while liberals can't contain their joy, the political scientist has said.

The assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has exposed a dangerous fault line in American society that could lead to civil war, Russian philosopher Aleksandr Dugin argued in a post on his Telegram channel. Dugin, known for his advocacy of traditional values, accused American leftists of fueling division and celebrating the killing of their political opponents.

"After confirmation of Charlie Kirk's death, America exploded. Trump and MAGA feel genuine pain and wild anger... Everyone in MAGA forgot their contradictions and instantly united," Dugin wrote.

By contrast, he claimed, liberals were unable to "contain their joy." Dugin pointed to MSNBC contributor Matthew Dowd's controversial on-air remarks and Democrats' reported refusal to honor Kirk with a prayer in Congress. He said liberal networks were filled with gloating, with senior party figures publicly calling for unity while privately urging activists not to be too open about their jubilation.

The philosopher said many in the US now fear for the lives of other conservative figures, warning that "life [is] under the crosshairs."

"This is very much like the beginning of a civil war. The Democratic Party is America's Ukraine. Or vice versa," Dugin wrote, adding that Kirk was shot "from 200 meters by a sniper who disappeared," and suggesting the true perpetrators may never be identified - drawing a parallel to the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

SOTT Focus: Charlie Kirk Refused Netanyahu Funding Offer, Was 'Frightened' By Pro-Israel Forces Before Death, Friend Reveals

charlie kirk
A Trump insider and longtime friend of Charlie Kirk tells The Grayzone how the assassinated conservative leader's turning point on Israeli influence provoked a private backlash from Netanyahu's allies that left him angry and afraid. The source said anxiety spread within the Trump administration after an apparent Israeli spying operation was uncovered.

Charlie Kirk rejected an offer earlier this year from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to arrange a massive new infusion of Zionist money into his Turning Point USA (TPUSA) organization, America's largest conservative youth association, according to a longtime friend of the slain commentator speaking on the condition of anonymity. The source told The Grayzone that the late pro-Trump influencer believed Netanyahu was trying to cow him into silence as he began to publicly question Israel's overwhelming influence in Washington and demanded more space to criticize it.

In the weeks leading up to his September 10 assassination, Kirk had come to loathe the Israeli leader, regarding him as a "bully," the source said. Kirk was disgusted by what he witnessed inside the Trump administration, where Netanyahu sought to personally dictate the president's personnel decisions, and weaponized Israeli assets like billionaire donor Miriam Adelson to keep the White House firmly under its thumb.

Corporations are trying, and now failing, to hide job openings from US citizens

application for employment
Should Americans be prohibited from sharing open job opportunities with each other? The food-delivery platform Instacart seems to think so.

Step back in time for a moment to former President George H.W. Bush, who signed the Immigration Act of 1990 — a bill championed by the late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.). He promised that it would "dramatically" increase the number of immigrants to America and encourage migration by "exceptionally talented people."

Several new visa categories were created with that aim in mind, including the H-1B for foreign nationals working in "specialty occupations." Companies such as Instacart can sponsor employees on H-1B visas to reside in the U.S. for up to six years. They can also sponsor them for permanent residence. (In fact, companies must sponsor their employees if they want to keep them around for more than six years.)

However, in order for applications for permanent residency to be successful, companies must certify their inability to find a suitable American candidate to take the position they're looking to fill with a foreign national. Unsurprisingly, that means some companies have been incentivized to hide job openings from U.S. citizen and resident applicants.

Comment: Not a moment too soon.
