A Brazilian court has sentenced a couple to 50 days in prison for "intellectual neglect" after they homeschooled their two daughters without a state-approved curriculum.

A São Paulo criminal court ruled against Audato and Ieda Denardi, alleging they had failed to include programs on "gender and sex education" and "tolerance and diversity" in the curriculum for their daughters, aged 15 and 11, Alliance Defending Freedom ("ADF") International said.

According to the legal group, the court also ruled that the parents failed to properly integrate their children into Brazilian culture, citing the girls' preference for religious and classical music over popular trap or "sertanejo" (folk) music.

Progressive California education activists are urging the state to recognize "black English" in preschool classrooms, claiming the approach would strengthen literacy development and affirm the language spoken by many black children.

Black Californians United for Early Care & Education (BlackECE), a nonprofit advocacy organization, is promoting what it describes as an effort to challenge "harmful language hierarchies and affirm black English as a legitimate, rule-governed language rooted in black history, culture, and community."

The group also seeks to "address how language bias shows up in early learning spaces-and how it can be dismantled."

Ashley Williams, a co-founder of BlackECE, said the initiative is intended to ensure children feel their voices are respected regardless of how they speak.

Comment: Sounds like Eubonics in new clothes. Wikipedia now redirects the '70s term to "African Black English" with the appropriate woke explanations (of course). All this is going to do is isolate those children even further into their own racial box and increase the grievance quotient.

That was not a coincidence - it was a signal.

Western countries are risking more terror attacks on their soil by continuing to back a Ukrainian leadership that 'feeds on Nazi ideology'. Last week's bombing in Monaco is neither the first nor the last "bloody bite" inflicted by "Kiev regime terrorism" on its Western sponsors, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said.

In an interview with Sputnik Radio on Wednesday, Zakharova said Ukraine's backers are now facing the consequences of supporting a leadership driven by Nazi ideology - a policy Moscow has long warned against.

Ukrainian-born millionaire Vadim Ermolaev, now a Cypriot citizen, his partner, and son were injured in Monaco last week when a backpack bomb exploded outside a residential building.

Ukrainian investigators said the main suspect, Ukrainian national Anastasia Berezovskaya, who was later found dead, had communicated with two men before the blast, including a serving officer in Ukraine's military intelligence agency (HUR) who later confessed to killing her with an accomplice.

Media reports say investigators are examining the possible involvement of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) in the bombing, citing claims that Ermolaev had planned to expose corruption in Kiev.

A federal appeals court ruled July 6 that convicted sex offenders retain a fundamental constitutional right to live with their own children.

The new ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit arises out of an Alabama case but could help reshape strict sex offender residency laws in the other two states in the circuit — Florida and Georgia — and serve as persuasive authority elsewhere.

At the heart of the case is the constitutional doctrine of substantive due process, which protects certain fundamental rights that are not explicitly listed in the U.S. Constitution but deeply rooted in U.S. history and tradition, including the right of parents to live with and raise their children.

The court ruled 8-5 in favor of the plaintiff, Bruce Henry, in the case known as Henry v. Sheriff of Tuscaloosa County.

The majority opinion was authored by Circuit Judge Robin Rosenbaum.

Comment: A 'treacherous field' indeed.

While it appear that Bruce Henry as an individual has made serious, ongoing efforts to reform his character, there is no guarantee that others less motivated will not try to argue for family access under the same ruling. Each case would require a tremendous amount of supervisory diligence. Most jurisdictions do not have those resources, or are prone to corruption.

A new Federal Reserve working paper adds hard data to a dire economic realities that tens of millions of hardworking Americans already face: being priced out of homeownership or trapped paying ungodly high rents.

For years, the housing affordability crisis was blamed almost entirely on low interest rates, pandemic-era demand, institutional buyers, and a shortage of new construction. However, one major point was largely and conveniently ignored by mainstream media: the Biden-Harris regime's open border policies, which facilitated a massive illegal alien invasion.

The paper, published by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, uses new government data to measure the labor and housing market effects of the illegal alien invasion from early 2021 through the first half of 2024.

"From early 2021 to early 2024, the U.S. experienced an unprecedented boom in unauthorized immigration, followed by a rapid slowdown beginning in mid-2024," the authors of the report wrote.

Below is my column in the Wall Street Journal on the bizarre claim of Gov. Gavin Newsom and others that the Framers would have supported wealth taxes, including the proposed Billionaire's Tax. It is a claim that seeks to mask the economically unwise with the historically unfounded. The Framers sought to protect property from legislative redistributive impulses. James Madison wrote that the bicameral system, and particularly the Senate, "ought to be so constituted as to protect the minority of the opulent against the majority." That does not sound like an ally of Bernie Sanders and Ro Khanna.

Was James Madison the Zohran Mamdani of his time? Gavin Newsom appears to think so. In joining the growing number of Democratic leaders supporting a wealth tax, the California governor claimed that the U.S. Constitution and our Founders were all about wealth distribution: "The system America's founders built," he said, "was designed to prevent the concentration of power in a few hands, but we have allowed that concentration to happen anyway, slowly, in plain sight, over decades."

The only problem with this argument is that it is utterly and demonstrably false. The Madisonian democracy is designed to avoid the concentration of political power, not the concentration of wealth.
