A source has told the veteran reporter that Kiev and Washington are deceiving the public about the situation on the ground...

US intelligence analysts believe that Ukraine has given up on its counteroffensive against Russia and the only thing prolonging the conflict is the unwillingness of Washington and Kiev to acknowledge its failure, a source has told investigative journalist Seymour Hersh.

Writing on Substack on Thursday, the veteran reporter cited an unnamed source, who "spent the early years of his career working against Soviet aggression and spying" as rejecting the Ukrainian narrative about slow but steady progress in its counteroffensive:
"'It's all lies. The war is over. Russia has won. There is no Ukrainian offensive anymore, but the White House and the American media have to keep the lie going.'"
This sentiment is shared by many figures in the US intelligence community, and the CIA in particular has been skeptical of Kiev's claims of a continued push forward, unlike the Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), he explained.

Comment: There is more to this war's underbelly than will ever be revealed, considering we are privy to its cover story and astute enough to identify it as such. Those who have died - know not for what, as 'truths' are merely tools. The time to have settled this was before it began.

The Biden administration announced on Wednesday the launch of an American Climate Corps to train thousands of young workers to pursue careers fighting climate change, a pared-back version of the program Democrats first proposed in sweeping climate legislation.

The New Deal-era program, which is expected to tap at least $40 million to fund the initiative, will aim to hire and train a new generation of the workforce focused on clean energy and a climate-resilient economy through projects such as conserving and restoring lands and waters while deploying clean energy. But the new program is a sliver of what was initially proposed in President Joe Biden's 2021 American Jobs Plan, which would have invested $10 billion for a 300,000 workforce but failed to become law.

The move comes amid revived pressure from Democrats, who just days earlier called for the White House to create the program through executive order after it was left out of the Inflation Reduction Act. Led by climate hawks Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), they argued the program was necessary to work on key conservation and climate priorities.

Leaders of the Global South are growing irritated by what they perceive as lecturing by the West, the UK's Foreign Secretary James Cleverly told The Guardian on the sidelines of the UN general assembly.

The official warned that "the West will be in trouble unless it learns to listen better to the Global South" and stated that many foreign ministers from those countries feel that all they hear Western leaders talk about is "Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine."

"We have got to be sensitive to that," he stressed.

Allegations of sexual impropriety and abuse by comedian and podcaster Russell Brand by the British media prompted YouTube to demonetize the star's popular channel on September 20.

The Grayzone can now reveal that YouTube's financial censorship of Brand is the result of an effort waged by a former British government minister who was responsible for London's crackdown on dissent during the Covid-19 pandemic. Her husband has also participated in that campaign of state repression as deputy commander of 77th Brigade, the British Army's psychological warfare division.

YouTube justified its demonetization of Brand on the grounds that he violated its "creator responsibility policy." This marks the first time a content creator has been financially punished by the company for reasons other than the videos published on the site. A spokesperson has claimed, "if a creator's off-platform behaviour harms our users, employees or ecosystem, we take action."

The allegations against Brand date from betwee 2006 and '13, and have yet to be proven in court. There is no indication the charges are being investigated by law enforcement in Britain or the US, where the offenses allegedly occurred. Brand has vehemently denied accusations of abuse and rape.

Last month in the middle of the surreal "Bidenomics" hype I published an article titled 'Nothing Is Over: Inflation Is About To Come Back With A Vengeance.' I outlined the misconceptions surrounding CPI and how it is not an accurate model for the effects of inflation. I also noted that the index had been manipulated downwards by Joe Biden as he flooded the market with oil from the strategic reserves. Because so many elements of the CPI are connected to energy, Biden had created an artificial drop in CPI using this strategy.

I argued that as the strategic reserves ran out and Biden lost his leverage, CPI would rise again and prices on a number of necessities would climb. This is happening now, with the biggest jump in CPI in 14 months and gas prices clawing back towards all-time highs.

Inflation is not going away anytime soon, but the bigger issue at hand is who benefits most from inflation and rising prices? The answer might be obvious to some but many people are oblivious to the root cause of inflationary dysfunction and often see it as a consequence of random economic chaos rather than a product of clever engineering. The truth is, banking oligarchs and political authorities revel in the inflationary tidal wave because it is a perfect opportunity to institute far reaching socialist controls over resources.

Moscow has rejected claims that Russian peacekeepers have failed in their duty amid the crisis

The Kremlin considers the escalation of violence in Nagorno-Karabakh as military action conducted by Azerbaijan within its own territory, spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.

The remark came on Wednesday in response to complaints from Armenia that Russian peacekeepers deployed in the region were not doing their job properly.

Peskov explained that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recognizes Azerbaijan's borders to be the same as the administrative borders of Soviet Azerbaijan at the time of the nation's dissolution in 1991. Nagorno-Karabakh was part of the republic at the time.

Comment: It's widely held that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wants to 'unload' the disputed territory, blaming Russia in the process, in order to clear the way for Armenia to join the European Union, which would not be possible if the country is involved in an armed conflict. The Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh rightfully feel abandoned by their neighbor without any consultation whatever.

Rishi Sunak is poised to ditch the 2030 ban on new petrol and diesel cars as he scales back costly green pledges.

In a dramatic policy shift, he is set to delay the switch to electric vehicles and slow the phasing-out of gas boilers. Pushing back the petrol and diesel ban from 2030 to 2035 would be a victory for the Mail's campaign to rethink the deadline.

The Prime Minister will set out the changes in a speech in which he will recommit to hitting 'net zero' carbon emissions by 2050, a target enshrined in law. But he will argue that the goal can be met with a more 'pragmatic' approach that does not force onerous changes on the public. Ministers believe the plan could help transform Tory fortunes and assist households struggling with the high cost of living.

Last night Mr Sunak said:
"Governments of all stripes have not been honest about costs and trade-offs. Instead they have taken the easy way out, saying we can have it all. This realism doesn't mean losing our ambition or abandoning our commitments. Far from it. I am proud that Britain is leading the world on climate change.

"We are committed to net zero by 2050 and the agreements we have made internationally - but doing so in a better, more proportionate way. Our politics must again put the long-term interests of our country before the short-term political needs of the moment."
The Prime Minister confirmed that he had planned a speech in which he is expected to point out the UK is already a world leader in cutting emissions and argue that further changes must be 'realistic and pragmatic'.

Global debt hits all-time high

The global debt pile soared by $10 trillion to a record high of $307 trillion in the first half of 2023, the Institute of International Finance (IIF) reported on Tuesday. It added that the US, UK, and Japan are among the markets driving the rise.

The high interest rate environment seen across most economies has sent the figure surging, making the current debt stock $100 trillion higher than it was a decade ago, according to the IIF.

"After witnessing declines of seven consecutive quarters, the global debt-to-GDP ratio has resumed its upward trajectory in the first two quarters of this year, now hovering around 336% - up from 334% in Q4 2022," the report stated.

Over 80% of the debt buildup came from mature markets, with the US, Japan, the UK, and France registering the largest increases. In emerging markets, the rise has been more pronounced in China, India, and Brazil, the IIF said.

The report also warned that domestic government debt is at "alarming levels" in many emerging market countries. Meanwhile, "consumer debt burdens remain largely manageable in mature markets, allowing additional room for further central bank tightening should inflationary pressures persist," the IIF stated.

Comment: Case in point:
Britain will face one of the highest inflation rates of any major developed economy this year, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) revealed on Tuesday.

UK inflation, which only recently fell to single digits for the first time since last summer, will average 7.2% this year, the Paris-based organization said in its latest Economic Outlook report.

The rate of price growth in the UK was the fastest among the Group of Seven (G7) major industrialized nations and the third fastest across the Group of Twenty (G20). Economists attributed this to fuel price fluctuations.

The OECD downgraded the UK's growth forecast for 2024 from 1% to only 0.8%, pointing to the "significant risks" the country is facing.

The UK's economic outlook has dimmed since June, following fourteen consecutive interest rate hikes by the Bank of England that have squeezed the country's output. Even with a moderate rebound next year, the OECD predicted that Britain will be lagging behind the vast majority of the G20 countries.

The report said:
"Activity has already weakened in the euro area and the United Kingdom, reflecting the lagged effect on incomes from the large energy price shock in 2022 and the comparative importance of bank-based finance in many European economies."
The OECD maintained its estimated 0.3% growth in British GDP this year, which, if realized, would be the second worst economic performance among the G7 after Germany, which has already entered a recession.
