Netanyahu on Syrian refugee crisis: 'We are not a European country!'

Image
© Unknown"I am trying to destroy Syria and its people, are you blind? Why would you ask me to take them in as refugees?!"

"Israel must not get involved in what is happening in Syria. We are not a European country. We are too close." (quoted by NY Times. Sept 6th. 2015)

A parliamentary report published in 2013 noted that since its creation in 1948, Israel has granted official refugee status only to 200 people.' (Washington Post)

And that is, of course, the point Israel is NOT a European country.

It is a state in the Middle East composed primarily of ideological migrants from the U.S. plus a few million former Russian political dissidents and refugees from various other Middle Eastern states.

It is not in Europe, nor in the EU nor in NATO; is not subject to any EU law but It does seek to influence the foreign policy of the United States congress by means of a powerful, moneyed lobby in Washington.

Comment: And don't forget its use of blackmail, threats, false flags, and all other manner of manipulation and dirty tricks.

It is the annual recipient of billions of dollars of military equipment each year including F16 strike aircraft, helicopter gunships, missile bombers, cluster bombs, chemical weapons and electronic surveillance equipment.

Comment: "Israel must not get involved..." but it is, of course, involved - up to its eyeballs. Between Mossad's covert support, training and first aid given to Syrian rebels, to perfectly timed attacks on Syria's infrastructure to coincide with strategic advances of ISIS, to destabilizing, terrorizing and undercutting the nations and organizations who are allied with the legitimate government of Assad - few countries in the world are actually as responsible for the humanitarian disaster there as Bibi and his cohorts are.

Perhaps he felt he needed to respond to individuals with conscience in Israel who weren't quite with the program:
Israel must welcome Syrian refugees: Labour's Herzog

Jerusalem (AFP) - Opposition Labour party leader Isaac Herzog called Saturday for Israel to take in Syrian refugees, recalling the plight of Jews who sought refuge from past conflicts.

"Our people has experienced first-hand the silence of the world and cannot be indifferent in the face of the murder and massacre raging in Syria," Herzog posted on his Facebook page.

Speaking at a panel discussion in Tel Aviv, he called on the government "to act toward receiving refugees from the war in Syria, in addition to the humanitarian efforts it is already making."

There is already hostility in Israel toward asylum-seekers from Africa and a concerted government effort to repatriate them.

Official figures show there are 45,000 illegal immigrants in the Jewish state, almost all from Eritrea and Sudan.

Most of those who are not in detention centres live in poor areas on the south side of Tel Aviv, where there have been several protests against them.

Someone identifying himself as Sefi Kamrani wrote on Herzog's Facebook page: "Take all the refugees into your home if you're so worried about them. I'd like to see you live just one week in south Tel Aviv."

Europeans finally speaking out on the true scale of the Syrian Conflict

To prevent the further influx of Syrian refugees to Europe, one must stop the ongoing civil war and end an economic blockade of the country, German newspaper Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten said.

Comment: Of course only in the bought-and-paid-for Western media is this a 'civil war'. In reality it is ongoing Israeli and US aggression against yet another sovereign nation.

As the refugee crisis hit a new high and began to directly affect EU countries, Europeans are starting to speak out louder urging the international community to step up the efforts to end the bloody conflict.

The German newspaper blamed both the United States and Russia for fueling the Syrian conflict, as the military-industrial complexes of these countries are financially benefiting from the war.

Russian senate leader Matviyenko: 'Washington infected with anti-Russia virus'

Image

Anti-Russian sanctions and visa restrictions only demonstrate a lack of professionalism by US diplomats, as it is not in the Russian mentality to give in to intimidation, the upper house chair states in a major interview.

"The people in Washington who initiate decisions are infected with an anti-Russian virus. They lack foresight because they don't know the history of our nation, they don't understand the mentality of our people or our traditions, they don't know that one should never use the language of force and sanctions in talks with Russia," Valentina Matviyenko told Izvestia daily.

She also noted that the origin of the anti-Russian sentiments of American politicians lied in the serious geo-political struggle and the desire to contain Russia's development in the economic and social spheres as well as its growing influence in international politics.

"The USA wants to keep its hegemony through any available means. I have a feeling that they live in a different world, they don't see or don't want to see the serious transformations that are now happening in the global politics. They cannot see that no matter how much they want the world to remain unipolar it has already become multipolar."

Matviyenko also recalled the recent incident in which she had to cancel the trip to the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament that was taking place on the UN premises in New York City because the US authorities had issued her a visa with serious restrictions.

Washington again? Bulgaria denies airspace use for Russian supply flights to war-torn Syria

Bulgaria has denied use of its airspace for Russian aid flights to Syria due to doubts about the nature of the cargo Moscow sends to the war-torn country. It comes on the heels of a similar Washington request to Greece.

The move has been confirmed by the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.

Bulgaria "refused to issue permits for flights through Bulgarian airspace of Russian military transport aircraft en route from the Russian Federation to Syria in the period between September 1 and 24, 2015," Sofia's statement said.

"We have information which gives us grounds to doubt the correctness of the information stated in the request about the purpose of the flights and the cargo transported," ministry spokeswoman Betina Joteva said, citing the reason behind the refusal.

Earlier, the ministry official told TASS news agency that Sofia had doubts whether the nature of the goods intended to be carried complied with that stated in the request. The ministry "made the decision independently," Joteva added, giving no further details.

Earlier Tuesday, Greece's Kathimerini newspaper reported that Bulgaria had denied Russia use of its airspace, meaning that two Russian planes would have to use Iranian airspace.

UK admits that one of its own submarines, not Russia's damaged a British trawler in April

Image
The UK Ministry of Defence admits that a submarine that damaged a British trawler in April this year was one of its own, not Russian. Earlier, Fleet Street was awash with speculation that a 'hostile Russian sub' had nearly destroyed the fishing vessel.

"...the RN [the Royal Navy] has now confirmed that a UK submarine was, in fact, responsible for snagging the KAREN's [fishing vessel] nets," Penny Mordaunt, minister of state for the Armed Forces, said in a statement.

The fishing vessel KAREN sustained damage to its nets and deck equipment while in the Irish Sea after it was dragged violently by unidentified vessel.

"It is standing Ministry of Defence [MOD] policy not to comment in detail on submarine operations but, exceptionally, I can say that this incident occurred because the [UK] submarine did not correctly identify the KAREN as a fishing vessel with nets in the water, and thus did not give her the berth she would otherwise have had."

China to launch its own oil benchmark nominated in the yuan in October

China is planning to launch its own oil benchmark in October, similar to Brent and WTI, striving for a more important role in establishing crude prices. Unlike the Western benchmarks, the Chinese contracts will be nominated in the yuan, not the US dollar.

Shanghai International Energy Exchange sent a draft futures contract to market players in August, Reuters reported quoting sources.

Oil futures will be the first Chinese contract to permit direct participation of foreign investors. However, this is not the first step for greater oil market openness in China. In July, Beijing allowed private companies to import crude. Previously importing was only done by state-run majors such as Sinopec, China National Petroleum Corporation and China National Offshore Oil Corporation, the Xinhua news agency reported.

Ministry of Defence investigating NATO for overcharging £460m for fuel during invasion and occupation of Afghanistan

Military police are examining claims that a defense contractor overcharged the armed forces by hundreds of millions of pounds for fuel during the war in Afghanistan.

An audit by NATO, which ran the operations in Afghanistan, suggests the alliance was overcharged by £460 million (US$700 million) by contractor Supreme Group.

Britain is thought to have paid for about 10 percent of the fuel used in Helmand Province, southern Afghanistan, during the conflict, meaning it could have been ripped off by up to £46 million, sources told the Telegraph newspaper.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) confirmed an investigation was underway.

In December 2014, the Amsterdam-based Supreme Group's food business was found guilty of overcharging the US military for supplies during the Afghan war and paid fines of $389 million, the most ever paid by a defense contractor.

Supreme won and ran lucrative contracts for British and US forces in both Iraq and Afghanistan during the wars and currently provides fuel for the Royal Air Force (RAF) and food to the MoD on a global scale.

ISIS captures the last oil field under Syrian government control

Islamic State fighters have seized the last major oilfield under Syrian government control during battles over a vast central desert zone, a group monitoring the conflict said on Monday.

The Jazal field was now shut down and clashes were ongoing east of Homs, with casualties reported on both sides, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, without giving dates or more details.

Syria's army said it had repulsed an attack in the same area but did not mention Jazal or comment on how much of the country's battered energy infrastructure remained under its sway. It said it killed 25 fighters, including non-Syrian jihadists.

SOTT Focus: Dead 'migrants' and psychopaths in positions of power

Image
Perhaps more than any other crisis in recent years, the current 'migrant' crisis in Europe has exposed the profound moral bankruptcy of Western society as represented and directed by white men and women in positions of political and economic power. But perhaps 'moral bankruptcy' is the wrong phrase to describe the essence of the problem, because it suggests that Western government policy makers ever had a functioning moral compass or genuine concern for the 'other'.

A cursory yet objective glance at Western powers' domestic and foreign policies over the course of the last 100 years shows a repeated penchant for exploitation, abuse, insatiable greed and mass murder, all under the guise of 'fiscal responsibility', 'peace keeping', 'foreign investment', 'fighting terrorism' or some other paramoralistic hokum. If you don't agree, then you're probably an authoritarian follower, emotionally or 'spiritually' unable to accept such a truth; or you may have ingested too much 'truth' from Fox or BBC news. A strict regimen of abstinence is advised.

Russian military In Syria - Putin confirms providing equipment and training

Over the past 48 hours or so, we've seen what certainly appears to be visual confirmation of a non-negligible Russian military presence in Syria. For anyone coming to the story late, overt Russian involvement would seem to suggest that the geopolitical "main event" (so to speak), may be closer than anyone imagined.

Russian military aid to Syria
Russia's excuse for being in Syria is the same as everyone else's: they're there, ostensibly, to fight ISIS. As we mentioned yesterday, and as we've detailed exhaustively as it relates to Turkey, the fact that ISIS has become a kind of catch-all, go-to excuse for legitimizing whatever one feels like doing is a dangerous precedent and Turkey's crackdown on the Kurds proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Islamic State will serve as a smokescreen for more than just the preservation/ouster (depending on which side you're on) of Bashar al-Assad.

Having said all of that, going into the weekend Russia had yet to confirm publicly that it had commenced military operations in Syria despite the fact that it's the next closest thing to common knowledge that at the very least, the Kremlin has provided logistical support and technical assistance for a period that probably spans two or more years.
