Israeli warplanes have carried out several airstrikes against the Gaza Strip in another act of aggression against the besieged Palestinian territory.

The early Saturday raids on unspecified targets in Gaza came hours after Tel Aviv claimed that rockets fired from the coastal enclave had hit southern occupied Palestinian territories. Israeli media said a total of five rockets were fired from Gaza on Friday night, adding that three exploded before they crossed the border. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the other two rockets that hit an open area near the city of Sderot.

The Israeli military frequently bombs the Gaza Strip. The disproportionate force is always used in violation of international law, and civilians are often killed or injured. In early July 2014, Israel waged a war on the Gaza Strip. The 50-day offensive ended on August 26 with a truce that took effect after indirect negotiations in the Egyptian capital Cairo. Nearly 2,200 Palestinians, including 577 children, were killed in Israel's onslaught. Over 11,100 others - including 3,374 children, 2,088 women and 410 elderly people - were also injured.

Terrorists storm India's Pathankot Air Base near Pakistani border - gun battle ensues

A gun battle has been raging at India's Pathankot Air Base in the northern Punjab state since four to five armed men stormed the facility. Media reports say two soldiers and two suspected terrorists have been killed in the shootout with Indian national guard.

The armed assault was launched at 3:30 am local time (22 pm Friday GMT), according to the NDTV agency, citing local authorities. The assailants reportedly used a stolen vehicle and military uniforms to get into the base.

The attack resulted in a fierce gun battle with Indian security forces, which blocked the gunmen in an area inside the base. Although there are Indian MiG-29 fighter jets and helicopters stationed at the location, none of them could be reached by the attackers, according to officials quoted by NDTV.

Up to five terrorists stormed the facility, local news agency Asian News International (ANI) reported. According to ANI, two of the attackers have been killed and the Indian troops have sent for reinforcements, including helicopters.

Unconfirmed reports also said that two soldiers have been killed in the attack.

"Twenty-nine percent of respondents chose Putin as their person of the year," the newspaper reported on Friday.

Moscow to sue Kiev in London court as Ukraine officially defaults on $3bn debt

Russia's Finance Ministry is filing a lawsuit against Ukraine for failing to pay off its $3 billion debt to Russia before the December 31 deadline. This means that Ukraine is now officially in a state of default, the ministry added.

"Ukraine has not made the payment of $3.075 billion in repayment and servicing of external bonds owned by Russia during the grace period, which expired on December 31, 2015. Thus, Ukraine is in a state of default now," the ministry said in a statement.

The lawsuit will be filed in the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA).

Comment: Ukraine has served its purpose to the west and, as the Empire of Chaos always does, they're now being left out in the cold, while Russia continues to demonstrate it's reasonableness and willingness to work towards mutually productive solutions in dealing with matters of this nature.

Dr. Kevin Barrett, a founding member of the Scientific Panel for the Investigation of 9/11, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Friday when he was asked to name the biggest false flag operations of 2015.

"2015 saw an outrageous number of false flag events, and the two biggest ones were the attacks in Paris, France; the second attack in Paris on November 13 was followed up quickly by a sequel attack in San Bernardino, California," Dr. Barrett said. "It seems that the people behind the so-called war on terror, and that would be neoconservative Zionists, have decided to use Paris as their center of operations, or at least this past year they did," he added.

"I think that was perhaps because Paris is perhaps the capital of world secularism, and they are trying to stir up a strategy of tensions pitting Islam against the West, and in particular against the secular tendencies of the West," he stated. Personnel at the Russian airbase in Syria celebrated the New Year while carrying on their nighttime flying missions. January 2016 sees the Russian military operation against the terrorists of Islamic State enter its fourth month.

At midnight Moscow time, the servicemen at the Khmeimim airbase in Latakia saw in the New Year, one hour ahead of local time in Syria.

Some of the air crews were absent from the celebration as sorties continued all night long.

American writer and activist Mickey Z. says it seems more obvious each day that the US corporate elite have chosen former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as their next figurehead. The author of Occupy This Book and Occupy These Photos made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Friday while commenting on a 2012 Clinton email which revealed that US multibillionaire George Soros regretted supporting Barack Obama over the former First Lady in the 2008 Democratic primary. The email was among more than 3,000 emails released by the US State Department on Thursday afternoon from Clinton's time as secretary of state.

"While mainstream observers wonder how the unexpected presence of Donald Trump will impact the race, George Soros' support for Hillary Clinton gives us a strong clue," said Mickey Z. "As we head into 2016 and will finally see actual presidential primaries soon, it seems more obvious each day that America's financial and corporate elites have chosen the former First Lady as their next figurehead," he noted.

"The top 1 percent want a political CEO with a steady hand and a proven record of support for Wall Street. With Trump virtually sabotaging Jeb Bush's campaign and Bernie Sanders busy playing the role of 'man of the people,' their choice seems clear: Hillary Clinton," the analyst pointed out.

Comment: The presidential race frenzy, every four years, is experienced by Americans as a bonafide reassurance that their democracy is alive and well. This couldn't be further from the truth. It is at best a grand dog-and-pony show by real owners of the USA to place their favorite "figurehead" (mouthpiece) in the White House. The three essential stipulations the corporate elite must consider: corruptibility, leverage, and psychopathy. These qualify Clinton as a 'natural born president'.

In an interview with Sputnik, political analyst Nikolai Shlyamin said that Washington had fallen into a trap in Afghanistan and that the most protracted war in the US armed forces' history has yet to be finished despite the withdrawal of the US-led coalition forces from Afghanistan a year ago.
"Washington is still in a trap in Afghanistan. Absolutely not taking into account the local national environment and ethnic issues, the United States tried to resolve the Afghan problem by classic military methods."
He added that in the past decade, the problem reached a gridlock and the war lost any meaning, something that he said added significantly to the Taliban's revival.
