On the Meeting of the Syria Support Group in Munich

Maria Zakharova has revealed plans to hold an upcoming meeting on Syria. Stressing the need to include the Syrian Kurds — Syrian Democratic Unity Party (PYD) — in the negotiation process. She stressed that the negotiations could lead to no results withthout the participation of the Syrian Kurds who know very well the situation on the ground.

The meeting of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) is scheduled for February 11, in Munich.

However Maria Zakharova doubted that Russia's Western partners have any strategy for Syria at all, judging by their actions on the ground. their actions resemble some chaotic movement without any clear aim in focus.

Mumbai attacks plotter 'says he worked for Pakistan spy agency'

An American who helped survey targets for the deadly 2008 Mumbai attacks told a special Indian court Tuesday that Pakistan's spy agency provides support to militants blamed for the atrocity, according to a prosecutor.

David Headley, who was sentenced in 2013 by a Chicago court to 35 years in a US prison for his role in the attacks that killed 166 people, also said he worked for Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

"Today David Headley has given certain sensitive revelations," Indian public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said outside Mumbai's sessions court on Tuesday following the American's testimony via video link.

Late in the night on Feb. 2, the news hit: "all communication and supply line[s]" between Turkey and Aleppo had been severed, according to a Elijah Magnier, a renowned Arab war correspondent with Alrai Media Group. It seems to be so: the Syrian army and allied militias, backed by Hezbollah and Russian air power, took control of a tendril of territory that cuts off Aleppo-based rebels from the Turkish border. See the map below. Eastern supply lines for the so-called Islamic State appear to have also been cut.

Of particular strategic importance is the village of Murassat Khan and adjacent towns north of Aleppo: by taking control of the area, Damascus ended the main Turkey-Aleppo insurgent supply line. The tourniquet around Aleppo can be pulled off the city -- and at the same time, one of the main ISIS oil corridors to Turkey is cut. If things proceed as they have been, with the regime advancing further into rebel-held territory, the red swathe of Syrian government forces will shortly expand to encircle all opposition forces (predominantly Jabhat al-Nusra and ISIS), who themselves have been encircling Aleppo in the east.

Well it may very well be that a majority of Ukrainians want to join the EU. But while they may want Europe, Europe may not want them. At least not the Dutch.

A referendum is scheduled in the Netherlands for April 6th on the question of the EU's association agreement with Ukraine. An overwhelming majority of Dutch say they will vote no, reports Politico:
The poll, conducted by the Dutch public broadcaster's program EenVandaag, is the first barometer on the April 6 vote. It found that over 50 percent of voters "are certain" to reject the Ukraine agreement, while another quarter of respondents said they'll "likely" reject the deal.

Over half of respondents also said they will certainly cast a ballot, while another 17 percent said they'd "most likely" vote. The threshold for the referendum to be taken into account is a turnout of 30 percent.

The Governor of the Odessa region, Mikhail Saakashvili, believes that Ukrainian soldiers allegedly could "conquer all of Russia", if they are given modern American weapons. Especially, the Georgian politician said, anti-tank weapons. He complained on a broadcast on television about the Ukrainian army having only obsolete Soviet technology, and almost directly appealed to Washington with a request to increase military aid to Kiev, and for the Pentagon to give Ukraine real help.

"The main disadvantage in Ukraine is the outdated anti-tank weapons. But there are newer weapons in the US, and if they will provide them, Ukraine will destory the first 50 Russian tanks, everything will be different," — said Saakashvili.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel wants to send NATO troops to the Turkish coast in order to support Turkey in the fight against illegal trafficking. However, it is unclear whether the increased military presence is connected to the escalation of conflict in Syria, German newspaper Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten (DWN) reported.

Germany and Turkey will seek NATO's mobilization in the fight against illegal trafficking on the Aegean coast, the newspaper wrote.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls will meet his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev on Saturday to discuss the prospects of lifting the ban on French food imports, says Agriculture Minister Stephane Le Foll.

Le Foll and Valls held a meeting with major French retailers - Auchan, Carrefour, Groupe Casino, Cora, Intermarche, Lidl and Systeme U on Monday. They discussed ways the big retailers could support French farmers.

In 2014, France accounted for about 20 percent of the EU's crop output and 15.5 percent of livestock production.
