#JusticeForKurds: RT calls for UN investigation into Turkey's killing of Kurdish civilians

RT has launched a petition calling for a UNHRC-led investigation into claims of alleged mass killing of Kurdish civilians. It is said to have been committed by the Turkish military during Ankara's crackdown on Kurds in the country's southeast.

An RT crew visited Cizre in Turkey's Sirnak province following reports of a brutal military crackdown on the civilian population in the area. It allegedly included slaughtering of hundreds of civilians trapped in basements. The reports which surfaced in February stated that some 150 people were burned to death.

RT's William Whiteman witnessed shocking scenes of destruction in the southeastern Turkish town, and collected horrifying accounts of an alleged massacre of Kurdish civilians there.

Witnesses who survived the offensive by the Turkish military provided Whiteman with terrifying details on what had happened in the now-devastated area, and showed the location of the alleged mass killing.

Ex-UN Asst. Sec-Gen: Turkey's military slaughter of Kurds is a return to autocracy

Sponeck

The growing international outcry is sending Ankara a clear message to "reconsider" its military quest against the Kurds. It is causing immense civilian suffering and undermines regional security, former UN Assistant Secretary-General Hans Christof von Sponeck told RT.

RT: How do you assess the humanitarian situation in the Turkish southeast, where Ankara is carrying out an anti-terror operation against Kurdish militants?

Hans-Christof von Sponeck: I would say that the Turkish resumption of attacks against Kurdish installations, not just PKK [the Kurdish Workers' Party], but also in urban areas like Diyarbakir, is of course an immense setback for the overall security situation in Turkey, but also in the wider Middle East. The Turkish government of President Erdogan decided that it was worth the risk to pursue a double agenda. On the one hand, he insists that he must be an ally in the fight against ISIS [Islamic State or IS]. On the other hand, he has parallel operations against not just the Kurds in Turkey, but certainly also the Kurds along the Syrian-Turkish border.

Let's not forget also the Kurds in northern Iraq. Mr. [Masoud] Barzani, the leader of the KDP [Kurdistan Democratic Party], is worried that the sovereignty of Iraqi Kurdistan is endangered by the intervention of Turkish forces. So here we see after some progress a few years ago in the negotiations between the PKK and Ankara that we are back to a very hostile unfriendly environment that is a further contribution to the destabilization of the region.

RT: After numerous reports about civilian casualties in the town of Cizre, RT decided to go there and see everything with our own eyes. How does the international community react to that?

HS: As I've said, anyone who follows developments in southeastern Turkey is extremely worried. There is the parliament in Ankara, there is the HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party), which includes quite a number of Kurdish parliamentarians - that is where the dialogue should take place, not in the urban areas of southeastern Turkey involving people that have absolutely nothing to do with the PKK.

Comment: Earth to Erdogan: Your policies toward the Kurds in Turkey, Syria and Iraq are not winning you points with the EU. Blackmailing other governments, supporting terrorists (ISIS) while becoming one yourself shows you have no reputable leadership qualities whatsoever. You do a grand disservice to your country and your people.

French politicians, intellectuals agree Russian pullout from Syria means Russia is not an aggressor

Russian President Vladimir Putin's order to withdraw the main contingent of Russian forces from Syria caught the international community off guard. Here is what leading French politicians and intellectuals said regarding the pullout of Russian troops from Syria.

Earlier on Monday Putin announced the Kremlin would start withdrawing its main forces out of Syria, stating that the Russian military has accomplished its anti-terrorism mission. Many leading French politicians seem to agree that Putin's decision to get the Russian military out of Syria was a good, strategic decision, according to RT France. "Putin's decision is a good thing. He could no longer continue to leave Russian troops in Syria without jeopardizing international relations. Especially considering the recent ceasefire deal in Syria agreed with the United States," former French Foreign minister Roland Dumas shared his thoughts.

According to French politicians, Putin showed that Russia isn't an aggressor as mainstream Western media was trying to portray the country after Moscow began its airstrikes in Syria against Daesh militants. "Russia demonstrated that it's not that big and scary grey wolf as we were told for many months," Vice-President of the Front National Florian Philippot said, adding that Russia showed it's willing to work with others and respect the ceasefire agreement.

Angry Erdogan says 'democracy, freedom, and the rule of law has no value', vows to crack down on opposition

In the wake of a recent bomb attack in Ankara, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared that the fight against terrorism is above the "rule of law" and vowed to hit his enemies, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in particular, with "an iron fist."

Amid a sharp escalation in the conflict in southeast Turkey, Erdogan stated in a televised address that "democracy, freedom, and the rule of law" have "absolutely no value any longer," DPA news agency reported.

Erdogan's speech appeared charged with hatred as he called for a line to be drawn between his friends and enemies, and promising war against the latter.

"Those who stand on our side in the fight against terrorism are our friend. Those on the opposite side are our enemy," he said, referring to the conflict with the PKK.

Putin: Russian aircraft could return to Syria 'in several hours'

A near week later we finally have enough information to really know what Putin ordering "the withdrawal of the main part of Russia's military contingent from Syria" on Monday means and entails.

For one thing it does not mean that forces Russia has been fighting on the side of - the Syrian army, Kurdish militias and some opposition groups - have been abandoned. Firstly not all strike aircraft have been withdrawn, instead some continue to assist these forces. Secondly Putin has now clarified that withdrawn aircraft could return at any time if things went south - and do so within hours:
"Of course, if such a need arises, Russia can, in several hours, build up its forces in Syria to a size capable of dealing with an escalating situation and use the entire range of means at its disposal," Putin said.

Who would have believed it? Five years after the start of Syria's tragedy - and within six months of this, remember, the regime itself trembled and the Western powers, flush with dangerous pride after destroying Gaddafi, predicted the imminent fall of the Assad dynasty - the Syrian government is preparing to rebuild its towns and cities.

The Russian military is not involved in the Syrian armed forces' campaign to reclaim the city of Palmyra, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed hope that Palmyra would be returned to the Syrian people at Thursday's ceremony awarding Russian servicemen for their role in the nearly 6-month anti-terrorist campaign.

"The offensive is conducted by Syrian armed forces. What the president said was that the campaign has significantly strengthened the Syrian armed forces, which are now able to independently continue the offensive," Peskov told reporters.

London to 'protect Kiev from Russia' by providing military training & intelligence

London will sign a new 15-year-long defense deal with Kiev, pledging to provide Ukraine with military training and intelligence to allegedly protect it from Russia, media reported Thursday.

Under the agreement, UK troops will take part in more joint drills and train larger numbers of Ukrainian troops, according to the paper. The countries will also share intelligence and expertise, it was reported in the article.

"The UK will stand firm with Ukraine as they defend their territorial integrity. This new defence agreement sets out that commitment as we enhance our training of Ukrainian armed forces," UK Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said, as quoted by The Telegraph newspaper.

Comment: What a surprise that the the capital of global crime would sign a deal with Kiev while they're committing daily atrocities against the people of Donbass. There's absolutely no evidence Ukraine needs protection from Russia. What Ukraine needs is protection from Kiev.

Pyongyang has fired a ballistic missile off its east coast into the Sea of Japan, South Korean news agency Yonhap reports. The launch comes after the US slapped it with new sanctions in attempt to punish Pyongyang for its ballistic missile and nuclear tests.

The rocket flew some 800 kilometers before plunging into the sea, according to Yonhap. The type of the rocket was not immediately known, but the agency citing the Joint Chiefs of Staff alleged it to have been a medium range Rodong missile.

US officials confirmed that a missile launched from North Korean territory had been detected and tracked, according to Reuters.

Security forces nab ISIS-linked militants, tons of explosives seized in southern Russia

Three Islamic State-affiliated extremists who were plotting attacks in Russia have been arrested in southern republic of Dagestan, officials said, adding that police seized over 1 ton of explosives and 5 kg of TNT in homemade bombs. The fighters were detained in the village of Mutsalaul, 72 km from the republic's capital, Makhachkala.

All of them "agreed to testify and disclosed the location of a cache in an abandoned home on the outskirts of the village" in Dagestan, said the National Anti-terrorist Committee (NAC) in a statement.

In the cache police found four homemade bombs with their explosion yield amounting to 5kg in TNT equivalent and about 1 ton of explosives. The bombs were made of steel pipes stuffed with shrapnel. The specialists are currently disposing the explosives, the committee said. "According to evidence available to the NAC, the extremist group, linked to Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), was planning to use homemade bombs in terrorist attacks," the committee said.

Earlier in March a Russian terrorist group which pledged allegiance to IS has issued a video call to arms to millions of Muslims in Russia, urging them to carry out attacks against the population and government. The militants called themselves 'warriors' of the group's global leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Best of the Web: The Syrian war in review: A look back at the US-NATO-Israeli sponsored "protest movement" and war of terror

Syria protests
© Washington PostProtests and preparations as Western powers stand on the brink of attacking Syria
The war on Syria started five years ago in Daraa on the 17th of March 2011. The following article first published in May 2011 examines the inception of the jihadist terrorist insurgency. It recounts the events of March 17-18, 2011 in Daraa, a small border town with Jordan.

Media reports have finally acknowledged that the so-called "protest movement" in Syria was instigated by Washington. This was known and documented from the very inception of the Syrian crisis in March 2011. It was not a protest movement, it was an armed insurgency integrated by US-Israeli and allied supported "jihadist" death squads.

From Day One, the Islamist "freedom fighters" were supported, trained and equipped by NATO and Turkey's High Command. According to Israeli intelligence sources (Debka, August14, 2011):
NATO headquarters in Brussels and the Turkish high command are meanwhile drawing up plans for their first military step in Syria, which is to arm the rebels with weapons for combating the tanks and helicopters spearheading the Assad regime's crackdown on dissent. ... NATO strategists are thinking more in terms of pouring large quantities of anti-tank and anti-air rockets, mortars and heavy machine guns into the protest centers for beating back the government armored forces. (DEBKAfile, NATO to give rebels anti-tank weapons, August 14, 2011)
This initiative, which was also supported by Saudi Arabia and Qatar, involved a process of organized recruitment of thousands of jihadist "freedom fighters", reminiscent of the enlistment of Mujahideen to wage the CIA's jihad (holy war) in the heyday of the Soviet-Afghan war:
Also discussed in Brussels and Ankara, our sources report, is a campaign to enlist thousands of Muslim volunteers in Middle East countries and the Muslim world to fight alongside the Syrian rebels. The Turkish army would house these volunteers, train them and secure their passage into Syria. (Ibid, emphasis added)
These mercenaries were subsequently integrated into US and allied sponsored terrorist organizations including Al Nusrah and ISIS.

Comment: The covert war of terror waged by the United States et. al in Syria was being exposed right from the start five years ago. It had all the signs and footprints of being setup to become a collapsed state shattered through the Western use of terrorist mercenaries. The same tactics were being used during the same time in Libya, and we can see the deplorable outcome.

Enchanted by their propagandist media outlets, the American public didn't take notice of what was really happening in Syria. Russia stepped in to intervene and the so called press barely covered the incredible feats being accomplished. Russia made significant in-roads in destroying terror cells and infrastructure, and now it is ready to pull out the majority of their forces. And while this is still hardly a blip on the radar for the American people, Syria now has a chance at survival.
