Erdogan: Immunity to military engaged in war on Kurds

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey voted Thursday to not prosecute soldiers engaged in a crackdown on Kurdish separatist groups. New legislation, which will require military or parliamentary permission to indict soldiers, will be retroactively applied, to cover all operations coordinated over the previous year. Military court jurisdiction has been expanded as well.

The parliament granted immunity to security, military personnel and civil servants who conducted "counterterrorism" campaigns against the Kurdish Worker's Party (PKK) in Syria, northern Iraq and southeast Turkey. Human rights organizations are concerned that the new law could make investigating violations more burdensome. The United Nations has been unsettled by military operations in the last year in densely populated areas with a Kurdish majority.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said that almost 500 soldiers and police officers been killed and 7,500 PKK militants have been "neutralized." The military claimed that six Turkish soldiers were killed in two attacks on Friday. Four soldiers were killed near the Iraqi border when an improvised explosive device detonated in Hakkari Province. This was in response to two soldiers being shot and killed by militants in the town of Derik, in Mardin Province.

Over the past few months, Ankara has been locked in a large-scale conflict with the PKK in northern Iraq and Syria, and at Turkey's southern border. This campaign began in response to a July 2015 bombing that killed more than 30 people in the southern Turkish town of Suruc.

Comment: Erdogan's rules...he's created a legislative edge for extreme and cruel genocide. All bets are off if military has no repercussions for committing acts above and beyond acceptable international protocol. Will the PKK be granted the same? In a pig's eye.

Biden threatens Xi to tame N. Korea or Japan may go nuclear 'virtually overnight'

Japan may obtain nuclear weapons "virtually overnight" if the North Korean threat persists, US Vice-President Joe Biden warned China's Xi Jinping. He urged to exert influence on Pyongyang, reassuring that US military buildup in Asia is not targeting China.

Comment: This sounds like a threat to China, then using North Korea as an excuse for the US military buildup.

For years, the United States and world powers have tried to negotiate an end to North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile development programs. While pursuing a variety of responses to the proliferation challenges posed by Pyongyang, mainly focused on military cooperation with allies in the region, Washington failed to achieve any tangible results in curbing the 'North Korean threat'.

On Wednesday, North Korea test-launched two medium-range ballistic missiles, the latest in a series of launches in violation of UN Security Council resolution. Each missile launch, be it successful or not, is traditionally accompanied by belligerent rhetoric by North Korea towards the US and its regional allies that fall under the American security umbrella.

Soros warns EU disintegration 'practically irreversible'

Business magnate George Soros

The EU has "ceased to satisfy its citizens' needs and aspirations," George Soros said calling on people to "band together to save it." The billionaire warned the disintegration of the bloc will be almost impossible to avoid.

"Britain eventually may or may not be relatively better off than other countries by leaving the EU, but its economy and people stand to suffer significantly in the short to medium term," Soros wrote in a commentary on the website Project Syndicate.

"The catastrophic scenario that many feared has materialized, making the disintegration of the EU practically irreversible."

Comment: Considering that:
"International currency speculator and leftist financier George Soros has slashed his fund's overall equity holdings by 25%. Like him or not, Soros is no dummy when it comes to the financial system. He is an establishment insider who apparently sees turbulent times ahead. He owns a not insignificant amount of gold, and his largest single equity holding now is Barrick Gold (NYSE:ABX), a major gold mining company."
One might be tempted to think that the disintegration of the EU is the outcome he and his elite cronies are hoping for.

Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity: State Dept. memo on Syria 'reckless'

Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity
A group of U.S. intelligence veterans urges President Obama to resist the "reckless" call for a wider Syrian war from 51 State Department officials in a recent "dissent memo."

MEMORANDUM FOR: Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs

FROM: Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity

Subject: Beware Foggy Bottom Dissent

Dissent and disagreement within the foreign policy and national security bureaucracy only comes to the public's attention when there are deep and fundamental differences of opinion about the execution and objectives of a U.S. policy. Instances of dissent emerged during the war in Vietnam and have reappeared periodically, e.g., during the Contra War in Central America in the 1980s and the Cold War with the Soviets. We can now add Syria to this list.

The latest media buzz came with the leak that 51 "State Department Diplomats" signed a dissent letter advocating direct U.S. bombing as a tool to force Syria into submission to our government's dictates. U.S. Foreign Service Officers are a unique collection of highly educated people, who take great pride in having passed the Foreign Service Exam. Yet even among such "bright people," some succumb to the forces of careerism and the pressures to politicize intelligence.

The commanding officer of a US Navy task force has been sacked following the investigation into an awkward international incident in which his group reportedly veered off course due to GPS failure and was detained by the Iranian coast guard in January.

Following an inquiry into the international incident in which ten US sailors of Task Force 56 were taken into custody by the Iranian coast guard, Commander of US Naval Forces Central Command Vice Admiral Kevin M. Donegan fired Captain Kyle S. Moses for the loss of confidence in his ability to command sailors. Moses was the commanding officer for the task force.

Stalling Brexit will benefit the radical right wing

Brexit

We claimed that BREXIT - is not gonna happen and pointed to a propaganda campaign (see further examples in the comments there) launched to reverse the Brexit votes. Within that campaign two memes get pushed:

First, young voters feel cheated of their future because some old, grumpy people voted for Brexit. Well, these young voters of age 18 to 24, tearfully interviewed by the BBC and Channel 4, constitute only 5% of the electorate. Only a third of them voted at all, 70% of those 1/3 of 5% for "Remain". This is a small part, and a not very interested one, of the population. Who are they to deserve some special attendance?

The second meme pushed is the "success" of some petition for a #ReverseBrexit vote someone set up on the UK parliament website. It now has more than a million "signatures". That is a lot in a short time frame. But wait, any dog on the Internet can "sign" that petition provided it has some throw-away email address. I, a German in Germany, "signed" to test the procedure. It took me about 30 seconds.

Trump rolls over for the Israeli lobby: Will support further racial colonies, won't recognize Palestinian state w/o Israel's permission

trump
Zionist stooge.
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has backtracked from his neutral position on the Israel-Palestine conflict, and is now "committed" to supporting Israeli settlement expansion on territories it has seized illegally, according to an advisor.

David M. Friedman, a real-estate attorney serving as Trump's main advisor on Israel, said the Republican presidential candidate and reality television star would not support the recognition of the Palestinian state without "the approval of the Israelis." Friedman also remarked that Trump was unconcerned with the inhabitants of the West Bank, because "nobody really knows how many Palestinians live there."

Comment: Trump supporters, take note. Whatever he is saying, or has said in the past, that has made you think he's got some good policies, just remember, chances are that he'll change his mind in a month or two. The man is a pathological narcissist, and will say whatever is convenient at the moment. He has no integrity. So why trust that a word he says actually reflects the policies he will put into effect if elected?

ISIS announces new plans to pivot to Southeast Asia

Islamic State terror group has called on its followers to focus their energy fighting in Southeast Asia besides battling in Iraq and Syria. In the latest propaganda video, the organization specifically calls on extremists to target Malaysia.

The latest video, titled 'Toghut' (sinners against the teachings of Allah), was released earlier this week and shows a Malaysian Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) fighter in Syria, along with two other IS combatants decapitating three captives. The Malaysian terrorist, identified as Mohd Rafi Udin from Negri Sembilan, threatens attacks against Malaysian police in the 20 minute video seen by Reuters.

The jihadist says in Malay that those fighters who cannot make it to Syria should travel to the Philippines and fight there. Udin calls on jihadists to unite under the leadership of Abu Abdullah, a Philippine extremist leader of Abu Sayyaf militant group, who swore allegiance to IS in January.

Abu Abdullah, also known as Isnilon Hapilon is on the FBI's most wanted list with a bounty of $5 million on his head. Malay's Special Branch Counter-Terrorism Division (SB-CTD) called the latest propaganda video a threat that will most likely materialize in attacks in the region.

Comment: What a coincidence that two of Southeast Asia's most pro-Western nations, the Philippines and Malaysia, are experiencing the same pivot to Asia from ISIS that the US has sought!

London market dropped $164 billion in 10 minutes after Brexit

London's FTSE index lost $164 billion in the space of 10 minutes of trading on Friday, when sterling dropped to its lowest mark in 31 years, trading up to 12 percent lower against the dollar. Ratings agency Standard and Poor's threatened to downgrade the UK's rating, which is currently triple A.

Moody's agency echoed the warning, saying Brexit "heralds a prolonged period of policy uncertainty that will weigh on the UK's economic and financial performance." The financial collapse in the UK is now worse than any crisis over the past three decades. The country - as well as EU countries - lost billions in the space of one morning.

London's FTSE fell six percent in early deals, having shed USD$164 billion in 600 dramatic seconds. The city's banking stocks lost $60 billion, USA Today reported. Thousands flooded the streets, forming long queues to buy currency ahead of vacation time. Travel giant Thomas Cook even put a £1,000-per-person limit on exchanges.

Comment: So, the UK may 'leave' the EU, but under fear of collapsing financial markets, they may still commit to implementing all EU rules...got it?

Former UNGA pres John Ashe dies while awaiting trial in corruption/bribery scandal

Former UN General Assembly president John Ashe of the twin-island Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda died on Wednesday in the United States as he was facing criminal charges in a bribery case involving Macau billionaire Ng Lap Seng. He was 61.

Ashe died at his home in Dobbs Ferry, New York, according to Sergeant Vincent Ingani, of the Dobbs Ferry Police Department. He gave no other details. Current UN General Assembly President Mogens Lykketoft confirmed his death, saying Ashe died of a heart attack.

"Despite the many as yet unproven accusations made against him, Mr Ashe was for many years a hard-working and popular member of the diplomatic corps in New York and at the United Nations," Lykketoft said in a statement. "I know that his death will come as sad news to the many professional friends and colleagues he made during his time here."

Comment: Back in January, Ng dropped his request for a speedy trial of his own. Ng's name recently cropped up in the Panama papers, and he just happens to have been a large donor to the Clintons in the 90s. He was tied to the so-called Chinagate scandal at the time:
The "Chinagate" fundraising scandal plagued the 1996 Bill Clinton-Al Gore campaign and Hillary was very much involved. Chinagate aka Commercegate is the most serious scandal in U.S. history. It involves the transfer of America's most sensitive technology, including but not limited to nuclear missile and satellite technology, apparently in exchange for millions of dollars in contributions to the 1996 Clinton-Gore re-election effort and the Democratic National Committee.
...
Judicial Watch began an investigation and Clinton administration officials deliberately concealed and destroyed records regarding the trade mission and testimony was falsified. ... The case was so serious and so damaging that the Commerce Department asked for a judgment against itself to avoid any further revelations. The court refused and insisted the Commerce Department conduct a new search for trade mission records and authorized discovery into the illegal concealment and destruction of government records.
...
While there was a lot of circumstantial evidence, there was never a smoking gun.
  • Clinton friend Yah Lin "Charlie" Trie pleaded guilty to charges of violating campaign finance rules in exchange for having pending indictments dropped against him in Washington and Arkansas.
  • According to news reports in 1997, Democratic donor Johnny Chung received a $150,000 transfer from the Bank of China three days before he handed then-First Lady Hillary Clinton's chief of staff a $50,000 check.
  • Then-Vice President Al Gore received political donations from Buddhist nuns who had taken a vow of poverty.
  • President Clinton admitted in 1997 that he invited major campaign donors to spend the night in the White House. The Clintons hosted 404 overnight guests.
  • During the investigation by the Department of Justice, about 120 people connected to "Chinagate" either fled the country or pleaded the Fifth Amendment to prevent testifying. ...
At the same time Schwartz and Loral convinced the Clinton Administration to transfer technology export licensing authority from the State Department to the more politically-influenced Commerce Department. Schwartz and Loral then obtained licenses from the Commerce Department that were needed to launch Loral-manufactured communications satellites into orbit from China. They ended up advancing China's missile program which is a threat to US national security much as the Clinton-Russian uranium deal is.
