Whistleblower says he can prove Brazil's president Temer took $300,000 bribe for construction contract

temer
The latest allegations follow the possible implication of 175 deputies and senators, a staggering 30 percent, of Brazil's entire National Congress.

Brazil's acting President Michel Temer allegedly received a bribe of US$296,000 that Engevix company owner Jose Antunes Sobrinho paid through intermediaries, Brazilian magazine Epoca reported Saturday.

The report cited allegations by the executive in efforts to secure a plea bargain with federal authorities.

In his proposed plea bargain, Antunes alleges that Joao Batista Lima, owner of the Sao Paulo-based architecture firm Argeplan and a close friend of Temer, had received work contracts in exchange for granting bribes to the current Brazilian head-of-state.

Lima, a former military police colonel, has repeatedly been accused of being the "key person involved in the dirty work" between companies and PMDB politicians.

If his plea bargain request is granted, Antunes says that he can prove Temer received a bribe of US$296,000 in exchange for a construction contract that was awarded to Argeplan to build the Angra III nuclear-generation unit, which forms part of Brazil's sole nuclear power plant.

Comment: But Rousseff "had to go". That's Western-style democracy for you.

Brexit - No vote changes nothing

Brexit

The morning's headlines proclaiming the unthinkable didn't make sense: the UK was leaving the EU; Cameron was resigning. The world had ended and been born anew.

I'll admit it, I was temporarily stunned. Jacob Rothschild had called for a Remain vote. What else was there to talk about? I hadn't seen that one coming.

For an entire minute it felt as though there was a chance of a return to the halcyon days, an end to the insanity of moral confusion: no more ripping right things from their places and twisting them into troubling, hybrid forms. Children would be able to play safely in the streets again; decency and order would return; Britain would rise phoenix-like from the ashes of a pitiable self-parody in decline; men would wear tweed, and the women would stop walking like nightclub bouncers and swearing at their children in the high street.

The attempt to brand as morally compromised those who want something other than cultural obliteration for the UK seemed to have failed. O, happy days.

Then I had breakfast. As I ate my eggs, insulated from the frequent calamities of a boisterous three-year-old by thoughts of what had happened, it felt as though some ostensibly welcome but ultimately weird event had taken place; as though a mystery person had built a conservatory onto the side of our house in the night.

It would be nice to have a conservatory. But if one appears out of nowhere, you'd be mad not to be very alarmed.

I won't lower myself to vote in elections. It only encourages the charade. But I did register what I assumed to be a protest vote in this referendum, and placed my mark using the government issued pencil in the appropriate box.

What I wanted was not on the ballot, of course: for Britain never to have joined the EU at all; for the last forty-something years to be rolled back.

FBI creates and foils terrorist plot aimed at those who question government

William Keebler
© thisainthell.usWilliam Keebler
The FBI once again appears to have averted a terrorist plot of its own manufacture by arresting 57-year-old William Keebler, a man from Stockton, Utah described in press accounts as a militia organizer exhibiting an "extreme hatred" for the federal government. A vociferous critic of the federal Bureau of Land Management who was present during the April 2014 standoff in Bunkerville, Nevada, Keebler was a close friend of the late LaVoy Finicum. FBI agents arrested Keebler in Nephi, Utah Wednesday morning after he allegedly attempted to bomb a vacant cabin owned by the BLM.

According to a federal charging document, for the past several months FBI undercover operatives have been members of Keebler's militia, the Patriots Defense Force, which met at his home in Stockton, Utah. On many occasions, he expressed the entirely reasonable view that "the BLM was overreaching their authority to implement grazing restrictions on ranchers" and insisted that state and local governments, rather than Washington, should be in charge of public lands in the Western States.

Predicting that future confrontations with the Feds might make violent resistance necessary, Keebler reportedly conducted training exercises and "talked about gathering intelligence on potential targets," such as the BLM office in Salt Lake City. He made it clear, however, that "he didn't plan on blowing people up for now"; the federal probable cause affidavit characterizes Keebler's attitude as wanting his group "to be prepared to escalate things, and take people out if necessary."

Last April, a federal informant "tasked with building Keebler an explosive device" — the charging document, significantly, doesn't specify by whom the informant had been "tasked" — showed the subject a video of "a 6-inch pipe bomb blowing up some abandoned furniture in the mountains of southern Utah." That overt act, which was carried out by a federal asset without (as far as the available evidence shows) Keebler's approval, advance knowledge, or involvement, is described as an act in which he "maliciously damage[d]" and "destroy[ed] ... personal or real property."

Comment: When this level of manipulation no longer works and the public becomes increasingly wise to the fakery, to what end will the FBI-US Government go to restructure truth, justify its agenda and maintain the persuasion of the public? How many other government departments and agencies utilize staged scenarios or fabricate positions to distort and shift public opinion? Maybe all. Certainly more than we know!

SOTT Focus: Behind the Headlines: Britain's Secret Wars: Interview with T.J. Coles

howells
British Foreign Office minister Kim Howells posing with the Colombian High Mountain Battalion death squad.
The British government is not a force for peace or democracy. The reality is much darker: British foreign policy supports war, conflict and oppression around the world. Unbeknownst to the broad population, the Shadow State sponsors a 'new world order' that allies Britain with America's quest for global power - what the Pentagon calls 'Full Spectrum Dominance'. In his brand new book, Britain's Secret Wars, T. J. Coles documents how British operatives have interfered in Syria, Libya, Iraq, Iran and Yemen with the aim of deposing unwanted regimes. In doing so, they have helped create extensive terrorist networks across the Middle East, reviving previously-failing Jihadist groups such as ISIL, which has now transformed into an international terror franchise.

In addition to waging clandestine wars in the Middle East, the secret services have used the military to run drugs by proxy in Colombia, train death squads in Bangladesh, and support instability in Ukraine, where NATO's strategic encroachment on Russia is drawing the world closer to terminal nuclear confrontation. Coles unearths Britain's involvement in the recent ethnic cleansing of Tamil civilians by the Sri Lankan government, the invasion of Somalia by Somali and Ethiopian warlords, and Indonesia's atrocities in Papua. He also exposes the extensive use of drones for murder and intimidation across the Middle East and elsewhere.

T. J. Coles studies the philosophy of neurology and cognition at the University of Plymouth, UK. He is director of the Plymouth Institute for Peace Research (PIPR), editor and co-author of Voices for Peace and author of The New Atheism Hoax. His political writings have appeared in the New Statesman, Lobster, Peace Review and Z Magazine. He is also a columnist with Axis of Logic and in 2013 was shortlisted for the Martha Gellhorn Prize for journalism.

Tune in this Sunday for Behind the Headlines' interview with Coles about his new book and the truth about British foreign policy.

Virginia federal court rules that government can access personal computers with no warrant or probable cause

Federal government continues to find new inroads into violating 4th Amendment protections that are supposed to be guaranteed to all citizens.

Last week, the Supreme Court ruled 5-3 that "evidence of an alleged crime can be used against a defendant even if police did something inappropriate or even illegal to obtain it."

In February, a state supreme court ruled 4-3 that "evidence seized in a person's private home during a warrantless search can be used against the person under an expanded view of the "community caretaker" clause."

The Free Thought Project has documented several other search and seizures cases that add to the dismantling of rights protecting against unreasonable search and seizure. The Snowden revelations allowed us to witness the massive intrusion into privacy being carried out by spy agencies such as the NSA and FBI.

The US, the EU and the fallout of the Brexit vote

Brexit
David Cameron and Jean Claude Juncker
The Brexit referendum is the harbinger of more revolts to come as the EU has come to be used as a geopolitical project detached from the interests of the people of Europe.

A spectre is haunting Europe - the spectre Brexit. All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: Merkel and Hollande, Draghi and Juncker, French Socialists and German police-spies.

How did it happen? The answer lies not in England, which outside London voted heavily for Brexit. It lies within the EU itself.

I have been a strong supporter of the EU for nearly all my adult life. However I am not blind to the realities. It has been obvious to me for a long time that things have been going seriously wrong.

First it is important to dispel certain myths about the EU. In the popular Eurosceptic imagination it is a remote and unaccountable bureaucracy based in Brussels that meddles and regulates every area of life. This is a misrepresentation. The EU bureaucracy is actually rather small and has only as much power as EU governments give it.

John Laughland in a recent RT Crosstalk called the EU more accurately a cartel of governments who conspire behind the scenes with each other to pass legislation without the need to consult with their democratically elected parliaments. Whilst that is closer to the truth, it is not the whole truth. Rather the EU, at least as it has become over the last decade, is best understood as a cabal of three governments, primarily those of the US and Germany, with France treated by the Germans (though not by the US) as a sort of junior partner, which make the decisions in secret that are binding on all the rest.

An Israeli soldier fires tear gas during skirmishes with Palestinian worshipers at al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the Israeli-occupied Old City of al-Quds (Jerusalem), June 26, 2016.
Israeli settlers and forces have once again stormed the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the Israeli-occupied Old City of al-Quds (Jerusalem) and engaged in scuffles with Palestinian Muslim worshipers there.

On Sunday morning, a large number of illegal settlers, escorted by a group of Israeli soldiers, stormed the holy site.

They were met by strong opposition from the Palestinians, who were performing morning prayers there.

Israeli soldiers used teargas and fired rubber-coated steel bullets to disperse the protesters.

Several people are said to have sustained gunshot wounds during the clashes. At least four Palestinians were also arrested.

Classic Putin: "David Cameron has a low level of political culture"

UK Prime Minister David Cameron, having stated that "Putin will be happy" with the results of the referendum on leaving the EU, has a low level of political culture. This was stated by President Vladimir Putin on June 24th while concluding his visit to Tashkent where he hosted the SCO summit.

"I believe that this is none other than an inappropriate attempt to influence public opinion in his own country. Especially after the vote, in my opinion, nobody has the right to say something about the role of Russia. This is none other than a manifestation of a low level of political culture."

Putin also noted that Moscow did not intervene in any way and never commented on the referendum. "In my opinion, we behaved appropriately and have attentively followed what is happening, but we have not influenced this process in anyway and we have never even tried to do so," the president said.

Earlier, Putin stated that the vote in Great Britain reflects dissatisfaction with the state of security in the face of heavy migration, and a reluctance to feed and subsidize other weaker economies.

Almost half of the UK's shadow cabinet plans to resign in order to force Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn to step down, according to media reports.

This comes shortly after Corbyn dismissed his shadow foreign minister, Hilary Benn, following revelations he was orchestrating a coup against the Labour leader.

On Sunday, Health Secretary Heidi Alexander became the first cabinet member to announce her resignation.

She tweeted, "It is with a heavy heart that I have this morning resigned from the shadow cabinet."
