Even as the Obama administration is embroiled in a scandal involving the paradropping of a crate of cash with $400 million in it in non-USD denominated bills to Iran, the same Iran continues to heap scorn upon the US president, culminating yesterday with Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khemenei, accusing the U.S. of creating and supporting ISIS as a means of creating conflict among Muslims and promoting a false form of Islam in the world.

In an op-ed column in Friday's New York Times, former top CIA official Michael Morell publicly endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. In the article, Morell branded Clinton's Republican opponent, Donald Trump, as a pawn of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Morell retired from the CIA in 2013 after a 33-year career, having spent two decades in high-level positions in Washington. His duties included preparing the President's Daily Brief for George W. Bush. For three years he was deputy director, running the agency day-to-day, and he had two stints as acting director, for three months in 2011 and for four months in 2012-2013.

The crimes with which Morell is associated are legion. He was a top official throughout the period of CIA kidnappings (renditions) of victims who were then held in secret prisons and tortured. He helped lead the CIA when it was carrying out drone missile assassinations and other forms of covert state terrorism. Throughout his tenure in Langley, Virginia, the CIA was engaged in war crimes in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Syria and many other countries.

Russia's next-generation 'doomsday plane' finally ready for action

On July 27 Voronezh Aircraft Factory finally presented Russia's Ministry of Defense the new specialized airborne command system also known as the 'doomsday plane'.

The new third-generation airborne command post is based on a modified Ilyushin Il-96-400 wide-body aircraft. It should be noted that late in 2015 the Russian military has already received a second-generation 'doomsday plane' based on an Ilyushin Il-80 aircraft.

Igor Korotchenko, military analyst and editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, told Sputnik that the 'doomsday plane' is designed to provide command and control of Russian military and strategic nuclear forces in case of a major conflict or even a full-scale invasion of Russia. He further explained that the aircraft essentially balances out the command and control system as the Russian General Staff and National Defense Control Center also have a number of mobile underground and airborne command centers.

"It ensures the inevitability of a nuclear retaliatory strike in case any country uses its nuclear weapons against Russia. Basically, this airborne command post ensures that no attack against our country goes unpunished. Any state that may threaten the safety or territorial integrity of the Russian Federation, that may launch a war or a sudden attack, would face retaliation," Korotchenko said.

The 'news' outlet tweeted that the Turkish President had fled to Germany to seek asylum at a critical point in the failed coup attempt that dramatically increased the chances of the government overthrow bid.

This week, Turkish Americans and media figures loudly demonstrated outside the world headquarters of NBC News in New York slamming the mainstream US news outlet for its false report on the night of the failed coup attempt in Turkey that dramatically increased the likely that the government overthrow would succeed.

NBC News triggered a firestorm after initiating a domino effect among media outlets after incorrectly reporting that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had fled Turkey and was seeking asylum in Germany in a number of later deleted tweets posted in the thick of the July 15 coup attempt.

The head of the DNI said that Ukraine's army has been preparing to attack, and assured that there will not be a "Minsk III."

If the Ukrainian authorities decide to forget about the Minsk agreements and attack the Donbass, then they should not complain, if they end up retreating to Kiev. This was stated by the head of the Donetsk People's Republic Alexander Zakharchenko.

"The reports from our intelligence are that on the other side of the front line everything is ready for an assault. From the political point of view - the undermining of the Minsk process will be from the side of Kiev. Furthermore, a Kiev offensive will close the Minsk process," Zakharchenko writes on his website.

He believes that, in the current difficult situation in Ukraine, another turn at war may be the only way for Poroshenko to stay in power.

Comment: You can be pretty sure Kiev is planning an offensive whenever the shrill voices of their propagandists and trolls start screaming "Russian invasion!" Looks like it's that time again.

Attempted assassination of Igor Plotnitsky, leader of the breakaway Lugansk People's Republic, provokes fears of infighting and of a possible Ukrainian summer offensive.

News of the assassination attempt on Igor Plotnitsky, the head of the breakaway Lugansk People's Republic, will come as no surprise to close observers of the Ukrainian conflict.

Whilst there is a strong possibility that the assassination attempt was the work of the Ukrainian secret service the SBU, it is by no means impossible that it is the result of factional infighting within the Lugansk People's Republic.

Whereas the political situation in the neighbouring Donetsk People's Republic has stabilised with its leader Alexander Zakharchenko apparently both effective and popular, the same has not been true of the Lugansk People's Republic where Igor Plotnitsky is a controversial figure and where there has been a string of unsolved murders going back to the early part of last year.

Canada has deployed fresh troops from Edmonton to help train soldiers returning from the front line of Ukraine's protracted counter-insurgency battle against pro-Russian forces on its eastern flank.

Thirty Edmonton-based members of 3rd Canadian Division's 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group flew from Edmonton International Airport early Thursday as part of a six-month deployment to help improve the embattled European nation's military capacity through training.

They will be joined by 72 of their CFB Shilo counterparts and will replace half of the 200 Canadian troops currently on the ground in western Ukraine, as part of the joint military Operation UNIFIER that began in the summer of last year and is scheduled to end in March 2017.

Brigade group commander Col. William Fletcher said training will cover everything from small unit tactics to linguistics while also "imparting some professionalism and Canadian expertise to Ukrainians."


Comment: Good luck! If there's one thing Ukraine's troops lack, it's professionalism.


Comment: Among other things, the CMBG is involved in the Canadian Department of National Defense's "research, development and training activities in biological and chemical defence". Given the buzz in the air of a renewed Ukrainian offensive against Donetsk and Lugansk, it's something to keep in mind.

Russia's steady buildup of military forces along its border with Ukraine is raising concerns that Moscow, which annexed Crimea in 2014 and then began backing separatists in eastern Ukraine militarily — including with Russian troops — may be considering an overt military campaign against its southwestern neighbor.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said in televised remarks last week that the military had created four new divisions, nine brigades and 22 regiments since 2013 and deployed them in the Southern Military District, adjacent to southern Ukraine, as well as in Russia's restive North Caucasus region.

"In recent years, the military-political situation on the southwestern strategic direction has become more acute," Shoigu said in citing the rationale for Moscow's military buildup in the region. "Mainly, this is due to the growing military presence of NATO in eastern Europe, the situation in Ukraine and the activities of international terrorist groups, including in the North Caucasus."

In an interview with the newspaper Vedomosti, Russian military expert Ruslan Pukhov noted that along with reactivating the 1st Guards Tank Army in Russia's Western Military District, near its border with northern Ukraine, Moscow plans to form two other armored groups for deployment near the Ukrainian border.

Comment: Meanwhile, Turchynov is hallucinating more Russian aggression:
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov has said there are two possible scenarios of the continuation of Russia's aggression against Ukraine - a full-scale war or hybrid warfare.

"In the attempt to conquer Ukraine, one of two scenarios may be implemented both in short- and long-term," Turchynov said during the presentation of the Security and Defense Sector Information Center at the NSDC in Kyiv on Friday. According to the NSDC secretary of Ukraine, the first scenario is the most dangerous one - the military scenario, namely, a full-scale military aggression, which is actually dangerous for the Kremlin itself, but something Russia is preparing to do all the same.
With the recent assassination attempt on Plotnitsky in Lugansk and an increasing amount of Minsk violations on Kiev's part, it looks like the crazies in Kiev might be gearing up for a renewed offensive on the citizens of east Ukraine.

Battle for Aleppo: Al-Nusra rebels storm artillery base and claim to break siege

The battle for Aleppo appears to have taken a turn for the worst with 'moderate' rebel groups including al-Nusra Front and Ahrar al-Sham seizing an artillery base and reportedly cracking a passageway to the city of Aleppo although the Islamist terrorists continue to suffer heavy casualties.

A coalition of Syrian Islamist rebel groups, including the former al-Qaeda affiliate al-Nusra Front and the violent terror organization Ahrar al-Sham that is included in Washington's list of 'moderate' opposition groups, stormed an artillery base in the strategic city of Aleppo in an effort to end the government siege.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based human rights monitoring group reported that part of the base had been taken, but the Syrian army claims it repelled the assault inflicting heavy casualties on the rebels.

Gulen is 'White House's trump card against Turkey', will never be extradited

According to former Turkish diplomat Oktay Aksoy, the future of Turkish-US relations strongly depends on Washington's decision on whether to extradite US-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen to Ankara; meanwhile the Russian media is speculating why it will never happen.

The Turkish Islamist preacher living in Pennsylvania has been the reason for the latest crisis between the two NATO allies.

On Thursday, an Istanbul-based court issued a formal warrant for the arrest of the US-based Turkish Muslim religious leader whom the government accuses of being behind the failed July 15 coup attempt.

Ankara has sent Washington two sets of documents totaling 85 boxes as evidence of Fethullah Gulen's involvement in the overthrow attempt.
