And where were you, Mr. Fuller, on the night of July 15?

Much has been written on the July 15 failed coup attempt in Turkey. The Erdogan government has pointed to the exiled Fethullah Gülen sitting in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania, and formally requested his extradition to face charges in Turkish courts. Washington so far refuses. As a massive nationwide investigation by police and security forces continues inside Turkey, new damning details emerge almost daily that point to the key role of the CIA behind their Fethullah Gülen Movement (termed FETÖ for Fethullah Terrorist Organization in Turkish) and the US military. Now the Turkish media reports that none other than Gülen mentor, "former" CIA man Graham E. Fuller, along with another "former" CIA person and close Fuller associate, Henri J. Barkey, were at a luxury hotel on one of the Princes' Islands in the Sea of Marmara, some twenty minutes from Istanbul, on the night of July 15.

While Washington adamantly continues to deny any and all involvement in the failed July 15 Turkish coup attempt, Turkish media is revealing detailed information of the involvement of key US figures as alleged coup organizers. They include the former NATO International Security Assistance Force (Afghanistan) Commander, Army General John F. Campbell. And now new revelations name Henri J. Barkey, a former CIA man, now based as Bernard L. and Bertha F. Cohen Professor at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, conveniently, a mere 26 miles or 30 minute drive via PA-33 from Saylorsburg, home of the exiled Fethullah Gülen.

Western media now trying to portray Turkey as main backer of Aleppo surge, not CIA

aleppo
© ReutersA fighter from Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, formerly the Al-Nusra Front, drives a tank through apartment blocks in southwestern Aleppo on August 5. The group used suicide sappers and tunnel bombs to break open the Syrian Army's battle lines and main defenses.
Some reports about the recent al-Qaeda attack on Aleppo suggest a leading role Turkey is playing in this operation. This contradicts my analysis of a Turkish foreign policy change moving from a solely western orientation towards a more eastern one. Such a change implies a less intense Turkish engagement in Syria.

Earlier reports by the Economist and the Financial Times pointed to less active role of Turkey in Syria. But a new Financial Times piece (Textcopy) emphasizes the role of Turkey in supplying and training various oppositions groups, especially al-Qaeda, while minimizing U.S. involvement:
[T]he offensive against President Bashar al-Assad's troops may have had more foreign help than it appears: activists and rebels say opposition forces were replenished with new weapons, cash and other supplies before and during the fighting.

"At the border yesterday we counted tens of trucks bringing in weapons," said one Syrian activist, who crosses between Syria and neighbouring Turkey. "It's been happening daily, for weeks ... weapons, artillery — we're not just talking about some bullets or guns."

Two other rebels, who, like all those interviewed, asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the subject, described cash and supplies being ferried in for weeks.
Just ten days ago the FT cited Syrian rebels as saying "Turkey was [now] inactive as rebels struggled." The Economist said Turkey was now "periodically closing the Bab al-Hawa border crossing". In the new piece Turkey is said to be the operational, logistical master behind the Aleppo attack. That the attack was planned in Ankara and al-Qaeda/Nusra troops were possibly trained by the Turkish military. Moreover it claims that mass supplies over the border have intensified in recent days instead of coming in dropwise throughout the months before.

Another view: How Russia maps the Syrian conflict

russia map syria war
Red: Syrian Arab Army, Yellow: Kurdish held, Green: Jabat al-Nusra (et al), Grey: ISIS,
Patch: Contested
The above is the latest publicly released Russian map of the general situation right now in Syria.

We can see this is a very much different picture than the BBC one from one year ago, in July of 2015 (below).

Let us look a little more into the subject of the Kurds, who have also gained a lot since last year. They've filled in wherever ISIS in the north has been rolled back. Problematically in terms of Syrian sovereignty, is the existence of US bases there.

What's been proposed of course is that the US and cohorts pushed ISIS precisely where they would later want to have a Kurdistan partition of Syria.

These US bases, along with their entire involvement from start to finish, are in violation of international law, and constitute a war crime. How this will be resolved has not become a considerable matter of debate within the expert community, as focus has generally been placed on the defeat of al-Nusra (et al) and ISIS.

Going against the grain? Clinton's Vice Presidential pick questions legality of waging war on Islamic State in Libya

Tim Kaine

Clinton's running mate, Tim Kaine, has said he doesn't think the United States has the legal authority to bomb the Islamic State in Libya without Congressional authorization. The US launched strikes against ISIS last week.

"I have very grave doubts about whether the legal authorities currently in place allow us to wage an offensive war against ISIL," Senator Kaine told NBC on Sunday. "But Secretary Clinton and I get to exactly the same spot" on pushing Congress to authorize military action, he added.

The comment was made as the US launched airstrikes against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) in Libya last week.
An Obama administration press secretary told reporters "the airstrikes were at the request of Libya's Government of National Accord, and were in support of government-aligned forces as they fight to retake Sirte from ISIL ... and support the government's efforts to secure the country."

It is the third time US forces have attacked IS in Libya on behalf of the UN-backed Tripoli government, but this time the airstrikes were in support of ground troops trying to retake the coastal city of Sirte.

Comment: Does Kaine even know what he got himself into by deciding to run with Killary? Maybe not - which may account for his saying that he feels like he got kidnapped.

The American Kraken is stretching its tentacles to the South China Sea

Graphic of SOuth China Sea
People say they the conflict in the South China Sea is about the resources. I'm not certain that it is true. All the conflicts and wars that America is involved in are said to be about resources, but if you examine what happens, it often doesn't hold up and sounds illogical. In the case of Iraq they gave a lot of oil concessions away to Russia and China, who never supported the US. That's just one example. I think there are a lot of issues beyond resources.

Apparently, 90% of the wars, waged against China certainly from abroad, went through the South China Sea. So, there is a whole strategic interest in maintaining defensive positions. Regarding the Arbitrage Court in Hague which decided that China had no historic rights to the South China Sea and it had violated the Philippines' economic and sovereign rights, China said it doesn't recognize its legitimacy. Also we can see that the EU and France in particular are siding with the US, pursuing the line of 'freedom of navigation' in this area of international waters. So, there are parts who want to have presence along with America in Asia to ensure that they have what they call "freedom of navigation". So, I don't think there was a fare judgement. The Europeans seems to be quiet partisan.

Obama's offering of largest military aid package in history is not enough for Israel

Israeli officials play hardball, demanding that the Obama Administration pony up more than the record $40 billion ten-year offering made by the US -- by a cool $10 billion

Last week, US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford met with his Israeli counterpart at the Pentagon to discuss the new multi-billion-dollar military assistance package currently in negotiation between the Obama and Netanyahu administrations.

The package, proposed by the White House, calls for an unprecedented $40 billion in military aid over the next ten years, the single largest appropriation of foreign financial aid in world history, and significantly higher than the previous $30-billion agreement signed 10 years ago.

More than half of the anti-Daesh fighters are joining Kurdish parties - 31 percent have enlisted with the Syrian-Kurdish YPG and 22 percent are fighting alongside the Iraqi-Kurdish Peshmerga, a study has found.

The foreign fighters traveling to conflict zones to battle against Daesh and other jihadist forces are predominantly military veterans recruited from the United States, a new report by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) revealed on Tuesday.

"Anti-[Daesh] fighters were recorded from 26 countries around the world, with the overwhelming majority (98.7%) originating from Western or European countries. The single largest cohort were from the US, which accounted for 114 (38.0%) of the fighters within the database," the report said.

Local governmental elections in South Africa defy West's imperial ambitions

ANC symbol
African National Congress remains dominate party over two decades after democratic transformation

Perhaps the most observed local elections in decades were held in the Republic of South Africa on August 3.

In final results of this poll the ruling African National Congress (ANC) gained 54 percent of the vote to the opposition party the Democratic Alliance (DA) 26 percent. In actual percentages the ANC won twice as many votes as the DA and many more times as the putative ultra-left Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), which garnered approximately eight percent.

With 100% of results transmitted, the official breakdown from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is follows:

Clinton in the crosshairs of Deep State?

Hillary Clinton
© Getty Images
Maybe Hillary is the Deep State's shoo-in for president. But I suspect doubts in the Deep State have advanced to active sabotage for the reasons noted below. Few would dispute that Hillary Clinton is the Establishment's candidate. It's widely accepted that the Establishment hews to a neoconservative (neo-con) foreign policy that is fully supported by America's Deep State, i.e. the centers of state power that don't change as a result of elections.

As a result, it's widely accepted that the Deep State fully supports Hillary Clinton's bid for the presidency and will move heaven and earth to get her elected. While this is a logical premise, I suspect it's overly simplistic. I suspect major power centers in the Deep State are actively sabotaging Hillary because they've concluded she is a poisoned chalice who would severely damage the interests of the Deep State and the U.S.A.

SOTT Exclusive: Some people believe the world would be a better place without Muslims

islamophobia
Ignorance endangers.
A 15-year-old boy of Moroccan descent from Genk, Belgium, Ramzi Mohammad Kaddouri, passed away earlier this month due to a quad accident while he was on holiday in Morocco. A facebook page titled 'Vlaamse Verdedigings Liga' (Flemish Defense League) posted a message about the boy who was killed. Reactions from facebook users to the tragic news were shocking to say the least. A few examples:
"Quick !! Give all Moroccans a quad !!"

"Too bad that there weren't two people sitting on it hahaha"

"lol was it a suicide attack?"

"better one than none. One less of them who won't be hanging out here anymore"

"Unfortunately, most Flemish people look like this one nowadays, in other words with a monkeymouth. Still, one more that we're rid of. Do drive a lot with your quads around."

"macaques [a term used to describe refugees who come from northwestern parts of Africa] aren't Flemish. They're inbred monkeys that have no respect for our culture."

"A quad bought by the money he received from selling drugs or from theft, I bet."
These messages gained a lot of attention, leading to various Flemish politicians to speak out. Responding to these racist remarks, the Flemish premier Geert Bourgeois said: "there is still a lot of work to be done to reach an inclusive society and shared citizenship. People using that kind of language, had better look in the mirror."

Youssef Kobo, who works for the Flemish Christian democrats of CD&V, was the first to condemn these reactions. One day after posting a tweet (see below) that reads: "Reactions on the death of the 15-year-old Ramzi Mohamed from Limburg. That's it, I give up." he received hundreds of hate messages and multiple death threats. Some of them very specific.
