Obama as narcissist and militarist

Obama graphic with weapons
"It is the rare fortune of these days that one may think what one likes and say what one thinks". Tacitus, Histories of Tacitus
After Obama was elected President of the United States, during his first years in office, there were liberal British academics who praised Obama's writing as similar to the ancient Roman consul, Cicero, who had distain for the Roman plebian class but was the darling of the middle class of Rome. Obama's writings were praised in America and the Western world as being gems of literary brilliance, and the list could go on about his generous and kind personality, in which all this pandering to the man, we could say influenced those who awarded him the Nobel Peace Prize. Ironically, Obama would become the longest war president in American history, although he accepted the Noble Peace Prize without blushing.

Barack Hussein Obama II will be remembered as one of those world leaders, who like previous demigods, political narcissists, and militarists in history, was able to hide behind the veil of duplicity, in this case the veil of neo-liberal democracy, as he moved forward towards his oligarchic aspirations. However, those who praise such men in their time, forget the more detailed aspects of comparing supposedly great men to so-called contemporary great men. Let us make some observations of Barack Obama that may be seen as contentious and controversial in our time. Let me write about what others are only thinking privately to themselves about the American President, Barack Obama.

What most American pundits, media journalists, and other well-meaning people who promote such men as Obama as a great statesman may not be aware of, is that a dubious recognition of any public man to be enshrined in history as a great man can be a tragic mistake, while the comparison of the second 'great man' to be similar to first historical figure can be farcical.

Question

Will Erdogan use the attempted coup and airport bombing to his advantage?

turkish police
The Istanbul airport bombing and "attempted coup" have left Turkey looking for terrorists looking for a paymaster and a cause on its own soil. The present situation reminds us of the famous line in the 1942 Movie Casablanca - "Round up the usual suspects." However the real culprits are not the ones being reported in the media, precisely because the usual suspects are the same as ever.

Let us look at the reaction to the airport bombing. According to Turkish media reports, a Russian citizen was among the three suicide bombers responsible. This report came from Reuters, which [naturally] cited an unnamed Turkish government official who also maintained that the two other suspects were from the former Soviet republics of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. No other details were provided beyond the attackers' alleged nationalities. Those, in themselves, are supposed to explain everything.

One thing that never ceases to surprise me is how quickly blame is allocated without any hard proof. The faster the fixing of the blame, the more questions should arise as to who benefits. The tactic of simply naming nationalities and leaving the public to fill in the blanks, meaning that any subsequent explanation will have to reflect "truths" everyone has already found without evidence, is a familiar one from the Paris and Brussels attacks. If Turkey is adopting it too, it is not hard to see that it has been told to get with the programme, having long faced criticism for failing to do exactly this.

Turkey may close border with Syria in reconciliation with Russia

Turkey will consider closing its border with Syria at Russia's request as full reconciliation with Moscow is in Ankara's interest, Russian media reported Friday, citing a Russian Federation Council member. Moscow has demanded from Ankara the closure of the Turkish Syrian border as part of talks of a Russia-Turkish commission on reconciliation, according to the Izvestia newspaper. These talks reportedly come in continuation of the discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan and include participation of diplomats, military officials and special services representatives from both countries.

"Turkish negotiators — both diplomatic and military - have practically no field for maneuver. At the same time, they seem to be willing to overcome contentious issues. That is why they will have to meet our condition of closing the border with Syria," Igor Morozov told the paper. Russia and a number of other international actors have repeatedly called on Turkey to shut its border with the crisis-torn Syria over concern that weapons and munitions could be transferred across the border to aid extremists based in Syria.

On Tuesday, Putin met with Erdogan, who arrived in St. Petersburg for first talks to reset bilateral relations that soured after Turkey shot down a Russian Su-24 jet over Syria in November 2015. The two leaders agreed to revive bilateral ties, returning to the pre-crisis level of cooperation in trade, energy and defense and other spheres.

The agent recruited by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's intelligence service has described how he selected places for planting bombs at the airport and bus station in Simferopol, Crimea's capital.

The footage of Ridvan Sulemanov questioning was released by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) on Friday.

Sulemanov said he had arrived in Simferopol on July 29 and "visited the central bus station and airport and found four places for possible planting of explosive devices." He said he sent their descriptions to the man named Pavel Nikolayevich who had recruited him in the Ukrainian town of Zaporozhye in October 2015.

Sulemanov was detained on July 30 when he was taking pictures at Simferopol's airport.

Canada-based Streit Group reportedly shipped dozens of armored personnel carriers to Libya despite the UN embargo.

Streit Group was criticized by the United Nations in 2012 for shipping 131 military vehicles to Libya. However, according to the shipping documents obtained by the CBC News broadcaster, it also sent at least 79 Typhoon and Spartan patrol vehicles to the country in 2014.

The broadcaster stressed that another shipment was seized by Greek patrol ships in 2015.

The documents show that the sales were carried out through several middlemen. At least one US and three United Arab Emirates companies purchased the vehicles before "donating" them to local warring factions.

The UN Security Council imposed arms embargo on Libya in February 2011, after the country became political unstable. It requires all UN member states to prevent the sale or supply of arms and related materiel of all types, including weapons and ammunition, military vehicles and equipment and spare parts, to the country.

Judicial Watch releases three new damning reports on Killary

So much scandalous stuff about her is known, it's just a matter of time before the next shoe drops.

Instead of exposing her as unfit to serve, media scoundrels express one-sided support, focusing instead on bashing Trump, the most irresponsible denunciation of a presidential aspirant in US history.

Judicial Watch (JW) is a conservative watchdog organization, "promot(ing) transparency, accountability and integrity in government, politics and the law."

On August 9 and 10, it released three new damning reports on Hillary Clinton. One involved 296 pages of State Department records - including "44 email exchanges...not previously" disclosed to the department, raising the number to 171 - besides tens of thousands of others deleted to avoid disclosure.

Despite no evidence, Washington considering new sanctions against Russia over DNC email leak

US officials are considering new economic sanctions against Russia over the DNC email leak released by WikiLeaks, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing sources familiar with the situation.

Officials have not so far, however, reached common ground on how exactly to impose sanctions, the WSJ reports.

Adopting more anti-Russian economic sanctions would mean delivering public accusations against Moscow or exposing links of the alleged hackers to Russia.

The White House has so far not commented, although the FBI and intelligence agencies investigating the cyberattack have "signaled" that the attack was "almost certainly" carried out by "Russian-affiliated hackers," according to the WSJ.

Flashback HRW report: Nearly all high-profile domestic terrorism plots in U.S. since 9/11 directly involve government agents

Nearly all of the highest-profile domestic terrorism plots in the United States since 9/11 featured the "direct involvement" of government agents or informants, a new report says.

Some of the controversial "sting" operations "were proposed or led by informants", bordering on entrapment by law enforcement. Yet the courtroom obstacles to proving entrapment are significant, one of the reasons the stings persist.

The lengthy report, released on Monday by Human Rights Watch, raises questions about the US criminal justice system's ability to respect civil rights and due process in post-9/11 terrorism cases. It portrays a system that features not just the sting operations but secret evidence, anonymous juries, extensive pretrial detentions and convictions significantly removed from actual plots.

"In some cases the FBI may have created terrorists out of law-abiding individuals by suggesting the idea of taking terrorist action or encouraging the target to act," the report alleges.

Out of the 494 cases related to terrorism the US has tried since 9/11, the plurality of convictions - 18% overall - are not for thwarted plots but for "material support" charges, a broad category expanded further by the 2001 Patriot Act that permits prosecutors to pursue charges with tenuous connections to a terrorist act or group.
