Here's what you need to know about 'The Great Battle of Aleppo'

Syrian soldier
The fighting in Aleppo, which the rebels call 'The Great Battle of Aleppo', is not in stalemate. The rebel counter-offensive has stalled leading to a battle of attrition the rebels cannot afford.

The recent fighting in and around southern Aleppo has attracted an enormous amount of attention, with those fascinated by military affairs now familiar with places like the apartment building complex 1070, the cement factory, Al-Ramousseh roundabout, the "artillery base" (actually a complex of military schools and technical colleges) etc. Scholars of the fighting in Stalingrad in 1942 will be very familiar with this sort of thing.

Whenever battles like the one currently being fought in and around Aleppo are discussed it is essential however to keep in mind the big picture and to focus too much on the fighting for particular strongpoints.

Spineless Serbian PM calls Joe Biden, who led NATO's war on Yugoslavia, a "friend of Serbia"

Biden Vucic
© Djordje Kojadinovic / ReutersVice President Joe Biden and Serbia`s Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic shake hands during their meeting in Belgrade, Serbia, August 16, 2016.
Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic has hailed Joe Biden, who is visiting Belgrade, as friend of his country. The US vice-president was one of the most vocal supporters of the NATO bombing of Belgrade back in 1999.

"I consider Biden a friend of Serbia and my personal friend," Vucic said during a joint press conference with the outgoing US vice president, who arrived in Belgrade as part of his farewell Balkan tour. "We're confident that the US wants a stable and peaceful Western Balkans. We thank our American colleagues for their support on our European journey," Vucic added.

Biden, on his part, expressed his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the bombings of Yugoslavia. Serbian sources cite around 2,000 civilians killed in the 78-day campaign, while the pro-Western Human Rights Watch put the number of civilian deaths at "about 500." Biden refrained from apologizing for the actual war, waged largely from the air by the US and its NATO allies.

The vice-president also termed Vucic his friend, and said that they"accomplished a great deal" during the Tuesday talks.

He went to compliment the head of the Serbian government, but in an accidental slip of the tongue called his country Croatia, which is another former Yugoslav republic. "I along with President Obama respect the leadership you've shown in some very tough challenging moments, Mr Prime Minister, and your positive vision for the future of Croatia," Biden said.

Comment: Biden's visit to Serbia is a tremendous insult to the Serbian people given that he was one of the primary hawks driving the conflict in Yugoslavia and the killing of thousands of Serbs. And that he can't even remember that he is speaking to the Serbian people and calls the country Croatia speaks to his unthinking and unfeeling attitude towards these people who have suffered incredibly under Biden's 'leadership'.

Huexit: Will Hungary be next to exit the EU?

Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orban
Will Hungary be the next nation to exit the dysfunctional European Union? The question isn't at all as far-fetched as it might seem. On October 2, voters in Hungary will participate in a nationwide referendum to vote whether they agree to the forced settlement of migrants in Hungary by the EU or not. It's a major issue in Hungary, a land of proud and staunchly independent-minded people who have endured 150 years of Ottoman rule; wars with Habsburg Austria until the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867 created a peaceful coexistence under the dual Monarchy of Austria - Hungary. After that, Hungarians were subject to the Soviet Union since 1945, initially under the dreaded Mátyás Rákosi, until it became the first Warsaw Pact communist country to declare a constitutional republic in October, 1989 and open its borders to Austria, setting in motion the domino fall of East Germany and then of the entire Warsaw Pact and, ultimately, the Soviet Union. Like every nation, they have a very special history.

It might well be said that Hungarians, always an ethnic melting-pot population whose parliament enacted the first laws of ethnic and minority rights in the world in 1849, are not a passive people when they sense something is wrong in the way they are being treated. So it is today regarding the Brussels proposal that Hungary and other EU member states must accept a Brussels-determined number of political war refugees from the Middle East and pay for all their costs whether they want them or not. Countries that refuse to take their quota would face severe financial penalties. In 2015 some 400,000 refugees arrived in Hungary in 2015 before a four-meter high razor wire fence was erected on the border with Serbia.

US cyberwarfare: Major sustained cyberattacks underway against Russia's RT

NSA eye
RT has faced repeated cyberattacks for more than a week, with experts saying the organization of such systematic assaults requires extensive financing. At the same time, the attacks have had only a negligible effect, IT specialists say.

"Attacks on RT are continuing for several days in a row, and that is an unusual situation for a protected [internet] resource, when the attacker cannot breach its security. This fact, alongside the absence of any demands from the hackers, indicates that the attackers are really determined to achieve their goal [and] make the targeted resources unavailable," Aleksey Kiselev, head of the Kaspersky DDoS Prevention Project in Russia, told RT.

Kiselev added that "these attacks are likely to be not accidental, but thoroughly planned and have serious financing behind them."

Comment: RT is being diplomatic by not naming names, but it's clearly the US behind this. The US is all out of narratives and is reduced to dirty tricks to prevent Russia winning this information war.

A world system driven by the hatred of life threatens us all

world psychopaths

Comment: The world system of death that the author attributes to patriarchy is in actuality a system created by and for the elite psychopaths who rule our world. Insinuating that all blame can be attributed to a male-dominated culture obscures the real nature of the problem, and opens the door to creating more societal divisions.

I only have a few minutes to convince you of the usefulness of a new term; a term that will help us understand the dangerous times we are living in as well as the related struggles on a deeper level, that is, from the roots.

The time for lighthearted jokes and uncertainties is over. The "storm" predicted by the Zapatistas is approaching faster than expected. Our confusion needs to end.

The world system that is threatening all of us is based on a strange phenomenon I was only recently able to fully grasp, namely a "hatred of life". (2) This hatred has indeed become a system, society, global civilization. It is embodied in all of modern civilization's institutions: in economics as much as in politics, in science as much as in gender relations, and, especially, in modern technology. There no longer exists a place where the hatred of life has not, literally, been poured into concrete as the basic idea and sensation of our existence. The hatred of life is no fleeting emotion or a mere individual or personal experience of a certain situation or moment. It is nothing less than hostility to life itself, which - and this is my thesis - has become the main foundation, driving force, and defining criterion for a patriarchal civilization dating back almost 5000 years.

After a virtual ban of 30 years, the term "patriarchy" is now re-emerging. It was commonly used by radical feminists whose movement was destined to be destroyed with the arrival of neoliberalism.

North Korea diplomat defects to South Korea

North Korea's deputy ambassador in London has defected to South Korea, according to officials in Seoul. Thae Yong Ho, who was based at the North Korean embassy in Ealing, west London, has reportedly arrived with his family in Seoul, making him the highest-ranking diplomat ever to defect to the South.

He had vanished earlier this month with his wife and children. Thae defected due to discontent with the regime and for the future of his child, the South's Unification Ministry said. Jeong Joon-Hee, spokesman at the ministry, told a news conference: "They are currently under government protection and relevant institutions are going ahead with necessary procedures as usual."

Jeong declined to give details on the timing of Thae's arrival or his itinerary. South Korean JoongAng Ilbo newspaper said he embarked on a defection journey "following a scrupulous plan" and was in the process of "landing in a third country as an asylum seeker." An official at the North Korean embassy in London would not confirm the defection, describing reports of the event as "quite sudden.

"If it is appropriate to give a response, then you might hear about our response," the official told Reuters.

SOTT Exclusive: Did the Clinton Mafia order murder of Seth Rich? Wouldn't be surprised if they did

the clintons
© Shannon Stapleton / Reuters
Hillary Clinton has been on the 'blame Russia for everything' bandwagon for a while now, alienating a nuclear power before she even makes it into office and giving us all the more reason to suspect that the world would not survive a Hillary Clinton presidency.

In July, when faced with leaks which implicated Clinton and the DNC in pushing Sanders out of the race, they opted for scapegoating Putin. The media was in a fury about 'experts' who had decided that Russia was responsible for the hack. So when Assange came out recently subtly hinting that Seth Rich, the DNC staffer attacked, shot and killed on the morning of July 8, was responsible for the leaks, we caught another glimpse into the psychopathic machine that is the Clinton team. But is such a scenario plausible?

Let's consider Hillary's history, which is plain to see since everywhere she goes she seems to leave a trail of scandals and corruption.

Recent revelations have included Clinton's role in the murder of President Gaddafi for his gold and oil, her complicity in the on-going destruction of Venezuelan democracy, and corrupt "Pay to Play" charges while at the State Department. On August 11th Julian Assange also came out saying that Wikileaks had 1,700 emails proving that Clinton was well aware in 2013 of the shipping and smuggling of weapons to al Qaeda and other related terrorist groups from Libya to Syria.

Iran's Hamedan airbase safeguards Russia's Syrian missions against 'satellite surveillance'

© WarfareWW/Associated PressIn this photo taken on Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, a Russian Tu-22M3 bomber stands on the tarmac while another plane lands at an air base near Hamedan, Iran.
Russia decided to use the Hamadan airfield in Iran to prevent terrorists from spying on its strategic aircraft taking part in the Moscow-led counterterrorism operation in Syria, the Vzglyad newspaper asserted.

The business daily maintained that spying appears to have become a major issue since some radical groups fighting in Syria have lately succeeded in hiding from incoming Russian airstrikes. This, according to the media outlet, seems to indicate that someone has been tracking Russian strategic aircraft and sharing this information with the militants.

"We would rather not point fingers but jihadists and 'moderate' rebels who joined them have managed to hide from Russian warplanes suspiciously too often. This could only be done if they have access to satellite surveillance data," the business daily suggested.

Vzglyad emphasized that radical groups lack equipment, particularly satellites and electronic warfare systems, needed to track long-range bombers as they take off from the Engels Air Force Base located east of the Russian city of Saratov.

"There are grounds to assume that someone interested and generous could provide this information to those who fight against Assad," the media outlet noted.

This is one of the reasons behind Russia's decision to use the Hamadan airfield in Iran as a launching ground for airstrikes against Daesh and al-Nusra Front in Syria. Russian aircraft deployed to Iran need less time to reach their goals in the war-torn country. In other words, the militants have less time to hide even if they know that an airstrike is imminent.

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has proposed to parliament a mass amnesty law that would release more than 12,000 convicts.

Tajikistan's presidential press service said on August 17 that more than 3,000 inmates would be released from penitentiaries and more than 4,000 people with suspended sentences and sentences not linked to jail terms would be fully amnestied under the proposed legislation.

In addition, the press service said the prison terms of more than 5,000 people would be cut and ongoing or pending investigations against them halted.

Women, teenagers, men older than 55, and veterans of wars and military operations would also be eligible for an amnesty.

Can the 2016 election be rigged? You bet

Clinton and Trump

Donald Trump has said publicly that he fears the next election will be rigged. Based both on technical capability and recent history, Trump's concerns are not unfounded.

A recent study by Stanford University proved that Hillary Clinton's campaign rigged the system to steal the nomination from Bernie Sanders.

What was done to Bernie Sanders in Wisconsin is stunning.

Why would the Clintons not cheat again?

The issue here is both voter fraud, which is limited but does happen, and election theft through the manipulation of the computerized voting machines, particularly the DIEBOLD/PES voting machines in wide usage in most states.

POLITICO profiled a Princeton professor — who has demonstrated how the electronic voting machines that are most widely used can be hacked in five minutes or less! Robert Fitrakis Professor of Political Science in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department at Columbus State Community College has written a must-read book on the strip and flip technique used to rig these machines. Professor Fitrakis is a Green Party activist.
