A Texas law that allows state police to arrest and deport migrants suspected of illegally entering the United states will remain on hold for now, a federal appeals court ruled in a victory for President Joe Biden.

Biden's Justice Department has argued that Texas' law is a violation of federal authority and would create chaos at the border. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has argued the Biden administration isn't doing enough to control the border and that the state has a right to take action.

A panel of the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied - in a 2-to-1 ruling - a request by Texas to let the law take effect while the state's appeal of a judge's ruling blocking it plays out at the appellate court.

The head of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), Sergey Naryshkin, has described Monday's airstrike on the Iranian Consulate in the Syrian capital as a terrorist attack committed by the Israeli government.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with his Belarusian counterparts on Tuesday, the spy chief condemned the strike, which reportedly killed several Iranian diplomats as well as seven officers of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including two generals - Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi.

Naryshkin described the attack as "an ugly and criminal step in relation to the sovereign state of Iran, and in relation to the sovereign state of Syria, on whose territory this terrorist act was committed."

He added that the SVR has received additional information about the incident, and reactions from various countries, but did not provide further details.

Russia's Foreign Ministry has also condemned the bombing of the Iranian compound in Damascus, stressing that any attacks on diplomatic missions, which are protected under the Vienna conventions on diplomatic relations, are unacceptable.

Russian security agencies will find the masterminds behind the terrorist attack on Moscow's Crocus City concert hall, President Vladimir Putin has pledged.

It's crucial to establish not only the direct perpetrators of the "bloody terrorist attack" which took place on March 22, but also all the links in the chain leading to its ultimate beneficiaries, Putin said during a meeting with the leadership of Russia's Interior Ministry on Tuesday.

"We will definitely get them," the president said of the masterminds of the Crocus City Hall massacre, in which 144 people were killed and more than 550 injured.

If you're not a criminal then you have nothing to hide, right? This is the perpetual argument used in favor of state mass surveillance throughout history. It's the underlying justification at the birth of every surveillance agency from the Soviet Cheka to the German Stasi and beyond. Don't commit crimes and "you have nothing to worry about."

Of course, this argument requires the public to overlook a simple and universal truth - That which is legal today can be made illegal tomorrow, and the people who make these decisions are often not good people. With the ability to track and trace the behavior and movements of the citizenry in real time, the temptation to abuse that technology to increase government power is exponential. That is to say, mass surveillance tends to inspire governments to abuse their authority and treat people like criminals even when they are innocent.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has expanded its investigation against RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan.

The agency has announced that it suspects Simonyan of several criminal offenses under Ukrainian law. She was described in a Monday statement as a "propagandist" who has been furthering "Russian narratives" via social media and during interviews.

The list of offenses attributed to the journalist cites alleged includes crimes against the Ukrainian state, including "propaganda of war," the general infringement of its sovereignty, and the specific "denial of armed aggression by Russia." A Ukrainian court ordered Simonyan's arrest for suspected violations against its territorial integrity in March 2022.

The SBU has also claimed it has documented "public calls for mass killings of Ukrainian children in December 2023," by Simonyan, but did not say which particular remarks it was referring to.

The crisis in Gaza that has been ongoing since Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on Israel has resulted in a sea change in political opinion on the question of Israeli security prerogatives and Palestinian statehood. While international opinion has decisively shifted to the Palestinian cause, Israel has until recently been ably backstopped by the US, which has wielded its veto at the UN Security Council to shield Israel from any binding consequences. But shifting global priorities, coupled with turbulent domestic political realities, have caused the US stance on Israel to shift, creating the possibility of Israel, for the first time, standing alone in the crosshairs of global condemnation.

On Mar. 25, the 10 non-permanent members of the UN Security Council tabled a draft resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza during Ramadan, the immediate release of hostages and humanitarian access. The resolution was the latest in a succession of similar calls from the Security Council seeking an end to the violence that has wracked Gaza and the region since Oct. 7.

Prior to the Mar. 25 draft resolution being tabled, all previous efforts to bring an end to violence in Gaza had failed, with the draft texts either vetoed by the US or, on one occasion, Russia and China. But the latest call for a ceasefire passed muster, receiving 14 "yes" votes, zero "no" votes, and one abstention — from the US.

Who was not impressed seeing the sudden and total collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge after getting its pylon bonked by the container ship Dali a few hours before the dawn's early light in Baltimore harbor? In America's ongoing death-of-a-thousand-cuts, that one literally severed a major artery, but it may take a while to know how badly the wounded colossus known as the USA is bleeding out.

"Joe Biden" emerged from his crypt pronto to state that the federal government would pony-up the cost of building the bridge back better, meant to reassure the public, you'd suppose. But perhaps the real reason was to obviate an otherwise requisite investigation of the crash by ship-owner Grace Ocean's insurance company — since legal wrangling over responsibility would add more years to the already years-long estimated bridge replacement time-frame. And Gawd knows what else they might discover about how the darn thing came to pass. . . rumors of a Ukrainian captain at the Dali's helm. . . stuff that the ruling intel blob might not want to get out there, especially given the still-murky role of the joint USA-UK black-op blobs in the Moscow Crocus Theater Massacre just a week earlier.

A 'rally around the flag' effect could disarm the populist surge, Charles Sapin has suggested

With polls showing 'nationalist' parties surging in popularity ahead of the upcoming European Parliament election, Kiev's worsening situation could prove useful to the bloc's powers that be, according to a new book by French investigative journalist Charles Sapin.

Most of the EU has been outspoken in supporting the Ukrainian government in the conflict with Russia, sending an estimated €77 billion ($83 billion) worth of weapons, equipment, ammunition and even cash to Kiev. Sapin's analysis, however, implies that bad news from the battlefield could bolster the European People's Party (EPP) and the second-largest group, the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) in upcoming elections.

"If Ukraine's position weakens, there may be a 'rallying behind the flag effect' more favorable to the forces in place," he was quoted as saying by Politico EU on Monday.


Comment: The author of this article is part of the problem and is part of the establishment media. He has worked for Le Figaro, Le Parisien and L'Opinion (all establishment papers). In his view, the EU establishment will win if Ukraine wins and also if Ukraine loses. There is next to no deep thinking involved from the author and little understanding of how deeply unpopular the EU establishment is.


Comment: The last paragraph shows how shallow this 'investigative journalist' is. Saying that Orban's power is due to semantics and ideological acrobatics is absurd. Saying No to NATO expansion, no to the demolishment of traditional values and Christianity and no to the goals of the globalists, might have more to do with why Orban has a strong backing in Hungary and why he is still in power.

The author does not examine what the consequences will be when Ukraine is defeated. European citizens will likely be even more up in arms of the hundreds of billions spent on project Ukraine. Will the millions of workers who have lost their jobs due to de-industrialisation vote for the establishment? Or the farmers whom the EU establishment have used as scape goats for the manufactured climate 'crisis'? Or the average EU citizen who has seen inflation go up along with exploding energy prices and food prices, while millions of immigrants have been let in? The list goes on and on.

Will the EU and/or NATO even exist after the war finishes as splits are already appearing?

The fall of Ukraine is likely leading to millions of Ukrainians seeking refuge in the EU, which is already tired of immigrants. Along with the defeat of Ukraine comes also the bill to be paid afterwards. The EU having been a strong backer of the war on the side of Ukraine is perhaps going to pay hundreds of billions in war reparations to Russia and to the rebuilding of what used to be Ukraine.

The voters will not forget that it was the EU establishment who sold the NATO expansion into Ukraine as a good idea and the war which followed.

'If you want peace, prepare for war,' I didn't invent that phrase," said lukashenko, quoted by the news agency "beautiful". The head of state added that the country carries out the necessary training of military units, providing troops with various types of weapons and equipment. "If from there (from hostile countries) someone pushes us and criticizes us, know that we are doing the right thing," underlined the Belarusian leader.
