Sanity on display as Donald Trump supporters go to Moscow in fight against sanctions

Former Georgia Rep. Jack Kingston

A Donald Trump supporter and former member of Congress is in Russia this week, as questions about the President-elect's policies toward Moscow roil his transition.

Former Georgia Rep. Jack Kingston spoke this week in the Russian capital with American business leaders in a closed-door session. Publicly, however, he suggested that Western sanctions on Russia over its aggression in Ukraine and annexation of Crimea could be lifted.

"Trump can look at sanctions. They've been in place long enough," Kingston said during an interview with NPR in Moscow. "Has the desired result been reached? He doesn't have to abide by the Obama foreign policy. That gives him a fresh start."

A spokeswoman for Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Kingston's visit or remarks.

Obama vows retaliatory strike on Russia before he leaves office

Barack Obama
Barack Obama
The massive "Russian hacking" red herring being inflated by the US mainstream media is reaching critical mass.

According to numerous reports, President Barack Obama is planning to launch some form of retaliatory strike against the Russian Federation, at "a time and place of our choosing."

From CNN:

President Barack Obama on Thursday vowed retaliatory action against Russia for its meddling in the US presidential election.

"I think there is no doubt that when any foreign government tries to impact the integrity of our elections that we need to take action and we will at a time and place of our own choosing," Obama told NPR.

Comment: The Russian hacking allegations are nonsense. But, even if they were true, this statement from Obama is such a hypocritical piece of garbage. The US has interfered in more elections around the globe in the last 60 years, even in the last 8 years, than any other player in modern history, and continues to do so to this day, Thailand being a current example. But you can't let the facts get in the way of a good story when you are a psychopath.

Describing potential countermeasures by the US, the President said "some of it may be explicit and publicized; some of it may not be."

If Obama wants to hit Russia before the inauguration of President-elect Trump, who has railed against the Russian-hacking bogeyman and has indicated his intention to radically alter relations with Russia, then he has approximately 5 weeks to make his move.

'Furious' German spies frozen out by UK and US intelligence after 'leaking to WikiLeaks'

British spies are refusing to share secret information with their German counterparts because they believe Berlin's leaky data servers have provided rich pickings for WikiLeaks.

Politicians in Berlin are said to be furious about the intelligence blockade, which has seen German spy agency BND cut off from US and British secret data at a time when Europe is under constant threat of terrorist attacks.

The spat between intelligence agencies is also linked to continued German anger at incidents where Chancellor Angela Merkel was spied on by America's National Security Agency (NSA).

Comment: Could this be a possible setup for something in Germany with this story as an excuse?

Telephone

No one involved in the Russian hacking conspiracy talked. Why not?

vote hacking
The claims that the Russian government hacked US voting machines are absurd. Voting machines are not connected to the Internet. To hack a voting machine you have to be physically in proximity to the machine and use a hand held device. The machines can be programmed to throw the vote count to one candidate or the other, and there are other ways to interfere with elections. Possibly if a foreign power had server presence in the US, some precinct reports of results could be intercepted and altered, although a voice check over the telephone is an easy way to verify the electronic transmission. What is clear is that Russia cannot hack the voting machines.

What about the claims that Russia hacked Hillary's emails and used a network of 200 Internet websites to convince the American people to vote for Trump? Wikileaks, which released the emails, said they were a leak, not a hack, and that they did not come from Russians. The FBI and the Director of National Intelligence do not support the CIA's claims. Or should we say claims attributed to the CIA as apparently the source of the claims, like the source of PropOrNot, is unknown.

And look at the size of the alleged conspiracy—the Kremlin and 200 websites. Surely someone would have talked!

Comment: US has no evidence on claims that Putin was involved in hacking

How President Trump dominates his opponents and humiliates his enemies

Donald Trump
Donald Trump
The blogger Chateau Heartiste has published an article (reproduced below) elaborating on an idea we published here at RI yesterday - namely that Donald Trump is a serious badass and double crossing him is a mistake nobody makes twice.

Trump didn't call all those neo-cons and assorted establishment lackeys to meet with him over the past month due to any serious consideration of their candidacies -- rather, Trump was humiliating his enemies...which is the only kind of language the psychopathic sycophants who comprise the political establishment understand.

Mitt Romney paid dearly for his attack on Trump during the campaign - in self-respect. He may have even dropped to his knees.

Revenge against those who have done wrong by you is not only personally satisfying, it's an effective social strategy for dealing with assorted sociopaths and psychopaths.

Case in point: Yer ever-so-'umble narrator was proven right once again when I mused that Trump's rumored consideration of Mitt Romney for Secretary of State was nothing less than a public humiliation spectacle of a traitor who tried to derail the Trump Train.

Higher oil prices and signs incoming US President Donald Trump wants better relations between Washington and Moscow has whet the appetite of investors for Russian equities.

In recent weeks, investors have poured the most cash into Russian funds in five years, according to the Emerging Portfolio Fund Research data tracker

Russian stock funds saw record inflows of $451 million in the week to December 14, with mutual funds and exchange traded funds (ETF) invested in Russian bonds seeing their largest inflows since February 2015.

Recovery in crude prices following last month's OPEC deal has had a positive effect on ETFs and mutual funds, some of which saw asset values rise by a third since the end of November.

Comment: "There is a potential budding friendship between our two countries. Investors have extrapolated that we are going to have a more friendly relationship with Russia" - but not if the the US Deep State psychopaths have anything to say about it.

Were the birthers right all along? Sheriff's investigation concludes Obama's birth certificate is fake

Obama Birth Cert
© AFP Photo/HO/The White House
A years-long forensics investigation into the computer image of the long-form Hawaiian birth certificate image that Barack Obama released during a White House news conference during his first term and presented to the American people as an official government document concluded it is "fake."

The probe also confirms that those who were subjected to the derogatory "birther" label from many media outlets and Democrats were right - at least regarding the document used to establish Obama's eligibility to be president.

The issue is that the U.S. Constitution requires the president to be a "natural-born citizen" but does not define the term. Scholarly works cited by the Founders defined it as a citizen at birth, born in the country to two citizens of the country, or merely the offspring of two citizens of the country.

The birth certificate Obama displayed on the White House website as "proof positive" of his eligibility states he was born in Hawaii to an American mother and a Kenyan father.

Some immediately pointed out alleged anomalies, questioning its validity, while others argued it also could prove his ineligibility because his father was not a citizen. Some of the lawsuits argued Obama was a dual citizen at birth through his father, contending the framers of the Constitution excluded dual citizens from qualifying as natural born citizens.

The future of Taiwan 'must not be shaped by Washington'

The Chinese government should be prepared to seize Taiwan, which Beijing considers a renegade state, by force before the new US administration "activates the Taiwan card" to dictate terms in mutual relations, Beijing's unofficial mouthpiece has stated.

"The Chinese mainland should display its resolution to recover Taiwan by force," the Communist party-owned Chinese newspaper Global Times wrote earlier this week. Calling recent comments by US President-elect Donald Trump and his supporters regarding Taiwan and one-China policy a "farce," the editorial stressed that China is now forced to be "vigilant" and forestall any potential US actions regarding the matter with their own actions.

"It might be time for the Chinese mainland to reformulate its Taiwan policy, make the use of force as a main option and carefully prepare for it."

"If the Chinese mainland won't pile on more pressure over realizing reunification by using force, the chance of peaceful unification will only slip away. Independent forces on the island publicly believe that time is on their side... they can turn the tables with the help of international forces. The future of Taiwan must not be shaped by... Washington," the article stated.

Comment: Note, most of the statements above come from unofficial state media editorials, not from government officials. Beijing did in fact release a statement as noted in the article, it's just not as dramatic as the media is making it out to be. RT is feeding into the Western propaganda line here. The current back and forth between China and Trump can be looked at through a negotiating lens, which is much less horrific than the existing establishment's policies that wish chaos in the region.

See: Trump and the Taiwan Call: Another "New CEO" Move
But if you look at this situation through the filter of a Master Persuader, it makes perfect sense. Trump is "setting the table" for future negotiations with China. He just subtracted something from China's brand that they value, and later he will negotiate with them to maybe give it back in some fashion. Probably in return for some trade concessions.

But what about the risk? Does it ever make sense to poke a nuclear power? In this case, probably yes. As I have said in this blog before, China's leadership is both mature and competent. Many of them have engineering degrees. They understand what Trump is doing, and none of it is a path to war because neither side has any interest in war. None. Zero.

Political dissident against 'Putin's Russia' charged for massive child porn collection

Vladimir Bukovsky
So much for being a champion of human rights.
Exactly how Putin's hackers planted all the incriminating material on the poor man's computer and forced him to confess, is still being investigated.

British media are reporting on the start of the trial of Vladimir Bukovsky, a Soviet-era dissident who testified in support of the case alleging Vladimir Putin's secret services were behind the death of fellow dissident Alexander Litvinenko in 2006.

Bukovsky is being accused of amassing a huge collection of images of children being physically abused, according to the Guardian:
The Soviet dissident Vladimir Bukovsky downloaded thousands of indecent images of children over a 15-year period, most of them featuring boys, a court has been told.

Bukovsky, 73, is charged with 10 counts of making and possessing indecent photos and one count of possessing an indecent computer-generated graphic. He denies all charges.

William Carter, prosecuting, told a jury at Cambridge crown court on Monday that Bukovsky's computer was identified during an operation by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre. Police arrested him in October 2014 at his home on the outskirts of Cambridge.

Bukovsky, who was expelled from the Soviet Union in 1976, told detectives he had indecent material, the court heard. "He [Bukovsky] responded immediately by saying he did download images and that they would be on the computer in his study," Carter said.

The police subsequently discovered "a very great deal of material" on two hard drives. It showed some "very young" children up to the ages of 12 and 13. They were "largely but by no means exclusively boys", the court was told. There were some adults involved.
Uncanny how every criminal psychopath from Russia somehow always ends up in either London or Israel.

Donald Trump may have won the US presidential election, but he faces one last hurdle - the Electoral College

The system of the Electoral College is quirky, but it is not going away anytime soon. Each party thinks they can work the system to their advantage. The losers complain about it. The winners are happy with it, says political cartoonist Ted Rall.

Donald Trump may have won the US presidential election, but he faces one last hurdle - the Electoral College which convenes on Monday to vote for America's 45th leader.

Technically, it has the power to block him and electors are facing immense pressure from those hoping to scupper a Trump presidency.
