Repulsive: US sets 'new record' for killing civilians in Syria

US-Led Coalition Airstrikes

Coalition-led airstrikes in Syria killed a total of 225 civilians between April 23 and May 23, the highest 30-day death toll for U.S.-led forces since the campaign began, Agence France-Presse reported. That's nearly double the number of intended targets: The U.S.-led strikes killed 122 ISIS fighters and eight fighters loyal to the Syrian government, the report said.

The rising tide of civilian deaths attributable to coalition forces suggest that May could be the fifth straight month that civilian deaths from coalition-led strikes outpace the civilian death toll from Russian forces, according to the AFP report and an analysis of data from Airwars.org.

Of the 225 civilian deaths, reported to AFP by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 44 were children and 36 were women.

Hypocrite Samantha Power supports war crimes in Yemen, criticizes Trump's visit to Saudi Arabia

samantha power
Hard to believe that the former UN Ambassador under Barack Obama, Samantha Power, would have the balls to talk down to US President Trump for supporting Saudi Arabia, citing the brutal Kingdom's war against Yemen.

Power's conveniently forgot that she proceeded over an American UN mission that voted for numerous illegal wars and government coups, including the overthrow of a democratically elected Ukraine government, the illegal destruction of Libya, and supporting ISIS as it invaded Syria.

And then there is Yemen, for which Power voted to support Saudi Arabia in its large scale bombing campaign on the poorest nation in the middle east.

Did Ukraine just see the beginning of a Nazi Maidan?

Verkhovna Rada deputy, ex-commander of the Donbas volunteer battalion, and coordinator of the blockade of the self-proclaimed Donbass republics, Semen Semenchenko, has announced that the biggest Ukrainian oligarchs' enterprises are to be returned to state ownership. In an interview for Ukrainian censor.ua.net, he stated: "We are creating a staff and proposing a new format for unifying efforts for civil society. What task is to be set for the second stage of the blockade? Our first task is returning Akhmetov and other oligarchs' enterprises to state ownership wherever they do not fulfill investment obligations."

Semenchenko named the Burshtyn fuel and energy station in Ivano-Frankivsk region, which is part of Rinat Akhmetov's Donetsk Fuel and Energy Company, his first target. When asked what exactly activists intend to do with the enterprise, Semenchenko said simply: "take it." "We're just going to physically take it. We will force the government to take it over as state property," he remarked. Semenchenko also claimed that the businessmen Dmitry Firtash's "enterprises which he seized in the 2000's need to be taken."

How Trump played 'alpha male' with Brussels Eurocrats

The 45th president played alpha male in Brussels, returning to several policy themes that had animated his campaign

Fresh off his meeting in the Vatican, where the Trump women annoyed the liberal modernist pope by dressing far too catholic, Donald Trump arrived in Brussels for a showdown with the bought and paid for career Eurocrats expecting him to carry on the trans-atlanticist flame and keep open the US money spigots filling their troughs.

Those of them hoping Trump had been brought to heel by his more establishment-oriented advisors and cabinet members, were to end up dismayed.

An Iraqi official has said that compensation should be paid for a US-led coalition airstrike, after a Pentagon investigation determined that more than 100 civilians were killed in the March attack.

"We call upon the international community and especially the United States to compensate the victims," said Nuraddin Qablan, deputy president of the Nineveh provincial council, as quoted by AP.

He said the US should rebuild the homes of the victims, "so that the psychological damage will be mitigated."

Philippines special forces launched an attack on Islamist militant positions in Marawi City early Thursday morning in a bid to retake the city from the ISIS-affiliated Maute group. The operation involved ground troops supported by attack helicopters.

"We're confronting maybe 30 to 40 remaining from the local terrorist group," said Jo-Ar Herrera, spokesman for the military's First Infantry Regiment, as cited by Reuters.

"The military is conducting precise, surgical operations to flush them out... The situation is very fluid and movements are dynamic because we wanted to out-step and outmaneuver them."

At least 35 civilians were killed by US-led airstrikes in Syria on Thursday evening, according to state media. The UN's human rights chief has called on all sides to take greater care to protect civilian lives in the war-torn country.

The airstrikes in Deir-ez-Zor province hit the market in the city of Mayadeen, as well as a four-story building that was completely destroyed, Sana news agency reported

According to the news agency, at least 35 civilians were killed, most of whom were women and children. Injuries have also been reported.

However, a spokesman for the US-led coalition denied that its forces had conducted airstrikes near Mayadeen on Thursday and Friday, while telling Reuters that they are in the process of assessing the results.

Comment: The US military continues to show its lack of respect for civilians and looks completely inept in hitting the correct targets.

Well said Corbyn: Terrorist attacks caused by foreign wars and police budget cuts

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has gone on the offensive on Friday morning, connecting terrorist attacks at home with Britain's failed wars abroad. He has also pledged to reverse government cuts to emergency services.

At a press conference in London, the lifelong anti-war campaigner called for a change in how the UK operates in the world and handles domestic security.

He reiterated his longstanding view that engaging in wars like those in Iraq and Libya increase the threat of terrorist acts occurring at home.

Russia and the Philippines have signed almost a dozen deals, including a defense and military cooperation agreement, days after Rodrigo Duterte cut short his Moscow visit to urgently tackle the ongoing terrorist crisis in the country's south.

Overall, Moscow and Manila signed 11 documents which had been prepared for the Philippines president's visit to Russia.

"These include a defense cooperation agreement, memorandums on cooperation in nuclear energy, trade, investment, industry, transport, culture, and arts, as well as an action program for cooperation in tourism and a plan of consultations between our foreign ministries," Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in talks with Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alan Peter Cayetano.

Good sense: Trump retains attorney for 'RussiaGate'

Trump and Kasowitz
© AP/Andrew TheodorakisPresident Trump and his attorney, Marc Kasowitz.
A short while ago I wrote that President Trump by his own erratic behaviour had made his position over the course of the Russiagate scandal far worse than it needed to be, so that whilst FBI Director Comey's sacking was fully justified, and even though not a single fact has come to light that implicates the Trump campaign or the President himself in any collusion with Russia, the President's actions have - almost certainly mistakenly - convinced many people he is hiding something.

The latest story about President Trump asking Director of National Intelligence Coats and NSA Director Rogers to say publicly that there is no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia is a case in point.

The first point to make is that we don't know for a fact that the story is true. Like so many Russiagate stories it originates in a leak by our old friends the "multiple current and former US officials". Coats and Rogers have refused to confirm or deny it, saying- absolutely correctly - that they cannot discuss private conversations they had with the President.
