Trump tweet storm: 'Only crime so far is leaks against us'

As the probe into his administration's alleged ties to Russia continues, US President Donald Trump has said that although he has the power to grant pardons, so far, the only crimes which have been committed are the leaks against his government.

The president lashed out at the media in a series of tweets on Saturday.

Earlier, the Washington Post reported that Trump had asked his advisers about his powers to pardon himself as well as his aides and family members in the ongoing Russia investigation, according to White House sources, although one of them said this was more in the context of curiosity over the scope of the investigation's powers rather than an attempt to avoid prosecution.

Libtards go nuts as Jill Stein mocks DNC for "ludicrous Russia conspiracy theories"

Former Presidential candidate for the Green Party, Jill Stein dropped an atomic bomb on the DNC Friday from her Twitter account. Stein slammed the rigged DNC then accused them of covering their tracks with 'ludicrous Russia conspiracy theories'.

The liberals went crazy and attacked her for 'carrying the water for the GOP'. There is something so satisfying about watching liberals attack each other!

Jill Stein sent out a tweet slamming the DNC saying, 'Unlike the Dems, I didn't sabotage Bernie Sanders in the primaries, then try to cover my tracks with ludicrous Russia conspiracy theories." OUCH! Hey Jill Stein is on point with this tweet, but every broken clock is right twice a day!

Comment: The left is willing to divide the nation, risk civil war in America and risk nuclear war with Russia simply because they still can't get over the reality that they lost! Not a single shred of evidence has been presented that actually proves Russia interfered with the U.S. election.

German FM tells Turkish nationals: 'You belong here with us,' despite tensions with Ankara

Supporters of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan
© Thilo Schmuelgen / ReutersSupporters of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan wave Turkish flags during a pro-government protest in Cologne, Germany July 31, 2016.
While German policy towards Turkey will change, it won't affect Turkish nationals residing in the country, German FM Sigmar Gabriel said, as the rift between the two countries deepens.

When "innocent German citizens are being arrested," it's not possible for the German government to "remain without a response," Gabriel said in an open letter, published both in German and Turkish in Bild.

Germany's policies towards Turkey will therefore change, he wrote, reiterating his previous statement. The policy change, however, will not affect the Turkish nationals residing in Germany.

"We will re-examine our cooperation and especially the economic aid to Turkey," the letter reads.

"However difficult the political relations between Germany and Turkey, one thing is clear: you, people of Turkish roots in Germany, belong here with us, whether you have a German passport or not."

Gabriel also noted that despite the row, Germany is "homeland" to many Turks and that Berlin has always been "committed to good relations with Turkey because we know that a good relationship between Germany and Turkey is important to you [Turks in Germany]."

A tale of two nations: Russia's economic prospects look excellent while America's look bleak

russian manufacturing
Taking the extraordinary USA and EU economic sanctions against Russia and low oil prices since 2014 into account, Russia's economic outlook looks excellent going forward while that of Trump's America looks bleak, to put it mildly. Paraphrasing the memorable 1992 Presidential candidates debate between a then-young William Jefferson Clinton and George H.W. Bush, "It's the debt, stupid."

In the past few years too many US economists and analysts such as Moody's Credit Rating have tried to dismiss the economy of the Russian Federation as a near-bankrupt Soviet-era oil and gas-dependent economy, devastated by the 2014 collapse in oil price. This is a grave mistake, especially so as military calculations of NATO in many cases depend on such poorly-informed and dated judgments. Here are just a few select examples of what is really going on in terms of cutting edge and even bleeding edge technology R&D and commercialization in Russia in the civilian sector. The West's neo-colonial smug arrogance has no place.

Yes, the physical economy Russia has great problems. I've traveled throughout Russia many times since 1994. I have seen much beyond the breath-taking beauty of the Czar palaces of St. Petersburg or the spectacular Moscow Kremlin fortress constructed in the 1480's. I've seen dilapidated infrastructure and streets with New York-style potholes in Russia's smaller cities.

Syria: US Spec. Ops Chief confirms end to CIA support for anti-Assad forces

Rebel groups
© reutersmediaA thing of the past.
A US army general has confirmed that Washington has decided to put an end to a CIA scheme to equip and train certain rebel groups fighting the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad. He insisted the policy shift had nothing to do with improving relations with Russia.

US Army General Raymond Thomas, head of the Special Operations Command, said the decision was "based on assessment of the program. At least from what I know about that program and the decision to end it, (it was) absolutely not a sop to the Russians," Thomas said at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado on Friday.

Unnamed government sources told various media outlets last week that the decision to end the program had been partly due to the Trump administration wanting a better relationship with Russia.

The decision to terminate the program was reportedly taken by Trump in consultation with CIA Director Mike Pompeo and national security adviser H.R. McMaster ahead of his meeting with Russia's President Vladimir Putin in Hamburg earlier this month.

But the end of the CIA's Timber Sycamore strategy was not a precondition for the ceasefire deal reached between Putin and Trump on the sidelines of the G20 summit, the US officials insisted.

Comment: Damage not done. Time to cut losses and get rid of the evidence. If this program had been effective, would the same decision apply? If so, it might have meant something.

CIA Director Pompeo's five weird conspiracy theories

MikePompeo
© The InterceptIllusions triumph over logic.
In a tirade against Russia based news outlets RT and Sputnik, Donald Trump's CIA Director Mike Pompeo blasted Russia for interfering not only in the 2016 US Presidential election but "the one before that and the one before that". This would imply that Russia helped install Barack Obama in the White House even after his severely anti-Russian foreign policy became well known.

These statements are blasted by Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in the following way,
"If (Pompeo's) statements mean that we interfered in the elections in 2008 and 2012 that means that President Obama owes us his victories. I'll refrain from comment. In my opinion, this crosses the lines of what is reasonable".
Pompeo's assertion came after a tirade in which he said that Russia's current Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov helped develop a 'propaganda' strategy which underlies RT and Sputnik's alleged purpose. Pompeo further asserted that Gerasimov did this in the early 1970s.

According to Pompeo,
"His (Gerasimov's) idea was that you can win wars without firing a single shot, with firing a very few shots in ways that are decidedly not militaristic. And that's what happened.

What changes is the cost to effectuate change through cyber and through RT and Sputnik, the news outlets and through other soft means has just really been lowered. It used to be expensive to run an ad on a television station. Now you simply go online and propagate your message, so they have found an effective tool, an easy way to go reach into our systems and into our culture to achieve the outcome they are looking for".
The ludicrousness of this claim can be easily debunked when one learns that General Gerasimov was born in 1955. If one can conservatively say that 1973 was the 'early 1970s', this means that Gerasimov developed a communications strategy that relied on the internet being up to 2017 standards when he was 18 years of age. There is simply no logic in Pompeo's assertions.

Damascus notifies UN: 'Illegitimate coalition must pay for destroying Syria'

Kobani strike
© Kai Pfaffenbach / ReutersSmoke rises over Syrian town of Kobani after an airstrike. A U.S.-led military coalition has been bombing Islamic State.
Syria wants the US and its allies to pay for the destruction of Syrian infrastructure and to bear legal responsibility for "illegitimately" bombing civilian targets, Damascus has told the UN, demanding that the American-led coalition strikes stop.

The Syrian "Government insists that these attacks must come to an end, and that the members of this illegitimate coalition must bear the political and legal responsibility for the destruction of infrastructure in the Syrian Arab Republic, including responsibility for compensation," the Permanent Mission of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations said in letters addressed to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council.

Stating that the ongoing US-led anti-terrorist airstrikes "continue to claim the lives of hundreds of innocent Syrian civilians," Damascus claimed that the bombings had led to a "near-total destruction" of homes and vital infrastructure, including the "utter destruction" of oil and gas facilities.

The attacks, along with US and EU-imposed economic restrictions on Syria "are impeding the maintenance of those economic facilities and jeopardizing the prospects for development and reconstruction" in the country, the letters, written last week, said.

Comment: You break it, you fix it. Isn't this one of the, more or less, universal understandings of a civilized society, a commonality understood amongst people since its transition from rocks to tools? Syria is broken. There needs accountability, rectification and recompense by those not given permission to destroy. Does the UN have the will and audacity to pursue justice for the Syrians by biting the hand that feeds it?

Jerusalem holy site dispute: Abbas announces Palestinian Authority now freezing contacts with Israel

The Palestine Authority is freezing all contacts with Israel over the Jerusalem holy site dispute and the violence which broke out in the past days, president of the authority Mahmoud Abbas has announced.

Abbas called for the removal of metal detectors from the al-Aqsa Mosque compound and Jerusalem's other holy sites late Friday, stating that people should be able to "pray with dignity." Until Israel meets the demand and reverses its controversial decision to tighten security around the holy places, Palestine freezes all the contacts with Tel Aviv, Abbas underlined.

The announcement followed days of violent clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinians in the vicinity of the mosque. The clashes on Friday - the day designated for a special Muslim congregational prayer - turned out to be especially brutal and left three protesting Palestinians dead.

"We reject the so-called e-gates as political measures disguised by a security cover to control the Al-Aqsa Mosque and evade the peace process," Abbas stated. Abbas further claimed that Israel, through its actions near Jerusalem's holy sites, was trying to turn the existing political conflict with Palestine into a religious one.

Comment: In addition, Xinhuanet reports:
Abbas said that these gates "aim to impose control on Al-Aqsa Mosque and evade the peace process and its entitlements." He called East Jerusalem their "eternal capital," and said will "continue to protect it and work for its liberation from the occupation." He added that the Palestinian leadership will remain adjourned until further notice, urging Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the Arab League, UN and other world powers "to shoulder their responsibility towards Jerusalem."

Abbas called on Palestinian factions, especially Islamic Hamas Movement to "unite the compass towards Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa and defend our sanctities and our national project." He called on Hamas to respond to Al-Aqsa's appeal and dissolve the administrative committee it formed that manage the affairs of the Gaza Strip, so that to enable the consensus government to carry out its tasks.

He also pointed to a goal of allocating 25 million U.S. dollars to strengthen the steadfastness of Jerusalem residents, citizens, institutions, merchants and others. Abbas urged unity effort of Palestinian businessmen and other national institutions, as well as the Arab and Islamic funds related to Jerusalem towards the goal.

Palestinians called for a day of rage protesting against Israel's decision to enforce new security measures at the entrance of Al-Aqsa Mosque, including the installing of metal detectors and surveillance cameras.

Israeli forces fired live ammunition, rubber-coated bullets, tear gas and stun grenades to disperse protestors in different West Bank cities and towns. Nearly 400 Palestinians were also injured in the clashes, according the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and the Health Ministry.

Chief of the Islamic Hamas movement Ismail Haneya, who joined the rally in Gaza city, said in a public speech that "the Palestinian resistance is the only mean that would deter the occupation from carrying out such measures against Al-Aqsa Mosque."

Palestinian Muslims held prayers elsewhere inside East Jerusalem, as they refuse to use the metal detectors to enter the mosque, and in several places in the West Bank, ahead of expected marches towards Israeli checkpoints in the West Bank.

Israeli cabinet meeting Thursday night concluded with a decision to keep the new metal detectors and access control measures into Al-Aqsa Mosque after being installed last Sunday. The measure was opposed by Palestinians, who called on world powers to intervene to halt tensions in the region.

UK's soldiers and spies face penetrating review amid budget shortfall fears

British military and intelligence agencies will be subjected to a major spending audit amid fears of a £20 billion ($26 billion) shortfall for the completion of major projects like warships and jets.

National Security Adviser Mark Sedwill is to oversee the audit in an apparent bid to claw back extra pennies needed to fund major projects.

The announcement comes amid concerns over military recruiting and a major warplane deal, the cost of which seems likely to outstrip the original projections by billions of pounds.

A Ministry of Defence (MoD) source told the Times that the new investigation was not another Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR), but rather a "refresh" exercise.

The source said the audit was important "in a world where the threat level has intensified. We also had Brexit and the currency fluctuation."

Western presstitute media largely silent on massive civilian death toll from US airstrikes in Iraq

Mosul Iraq civilians
Earlier this week, human rights group Amnesty International issued a lengthy report accusing US-backed forces of "repeated violations of international humanitarian law, some of which may amount to war crimes," in Mosul, Iraq, causing the deaths of at least 3,700 civilians. Neither this report, nor the broader issue of the civilian toll in the US war against ISIS, has come close to penetrating US corporate media.

The only major radio or television outlet to report on Amnesty's claims was NPR (7/12/17). While traditional print outlets, such as the New York Times and Washington Post, did run Reuters (7/11/17) and AP (7/12/17) articles, respectively, on the report, neither covered it themselves. Neither Amnesty's charges, nor the broader issue of civilian deaths in Mosul, garnered any coverage in television news, with no mention on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN or MSNBC.

The expulsion of ISIS from Mosul by the US-led coalition did receive coverage, but the US role in killing civilians was uniformly ignored
