Israeli airstrike on Syria kills 14 people - media

More than a dozen people have been killed and many others wounded in an Israeli airstrike on Syria, the state-run Sana news agency has reported.

Israeli warplanes attacked several targets near the city of Masyaf in the country's western-central Hama Governorate late on Sunday, a military source told the agency.

Some of the missiles, which had been fired by jets from Lebanese airspace, were shot down by Syrian air defenses, the source added.

The strikes damaged the main road between Masyaf and the town of Wadi al-Uyun and caused a major blaze in another area, Sana cited the source as saying.

In a startling revelation, an investigation by the occupation army has uncovered that Israel may have been duped by forged Hamas documents leaked to foreign media outlets, the Jerusalem Post reports. The forged Hamas documents were used to influence public opinion in Israel. The revelation has heightened tensions between Israeli security officials and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Following the revelation, the army launched an investigation to determine who was behind the forgery. The aim of the manipulation appears to have been an attempt to sway public opinion in Israel regarding a potential hostage deal.

Israelis are deeply divided over the deal, with Netanyahu putting the fate of the hostages behind his own political survival and the destruction of Hamas. The Israeli army does not believe Hamas can be destroyed and prioritising the defeat of the Palestinian group over the release of hostages has strained the relationship between the far-right government and the army.

Jonathan Cook highlights some relevant points in this scandal:
The headline news is that Israeli intelligence has found Netanyahu's office forged two Hamas documents, as part of a disinformation campaign to justify his refusal to agree a ceasefire in Gaza.

That's not the real story, however. Which is:

1. We have confirmation of this example of Israeli disinformation only because the Israeli military and Netanyahu are at loggerheads about how to best manage the next stage of the genocide in Gaza. Israel's many other lies are usually better protected because everyone is singing from the same fake hymn sheet.

2. Netanyahu spread his lies through compliant western media publications that accepted, as they have so many times before, implausible tidbits offered to them by Israel without even the most cursory due diligence. If they fell so easily for Netanyahu's tricks, can we trust them on anything else they tell us about Israel or Hamas?

Lithuanian Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė has announced that a nationwide mass evacuation plan will be developed by early October.

Kiev is sitting on a "trillion dollars' worth of minerals" that are "good" for the US economy, US Senator Lindsey Graham says

US Senator Lindsey Graham has openly said Washington needs Ukraine's natural resources and that, therefore, military aid to the country must continue until Kiev is able to "win" its conflict with Russia.

The South Carolina Republican, one of the top backers of Kiev within the US establishment, made the remarks on Friday in Kiev, speaking alongside leader Vladimir Zelensky. He praised the Ukrainians and their purported resolve to fight Moscow no matter what, noting that this means that Americans themselves don't have to do this, only to provide the weaponry.

Comment: Kill off enough Ukrainians by convincing/conscripting them to die in a pointless war is one way to coopt a country.

But, what will Graham tell all the MIC and other corporate backers (Blackrock, Cargill) of the conflict, when Russia welcomes the only productive part of Ukraine (everything east of the Dneiper plus Odessa) back to their natural home? There's even a possibility Russia will push past Kiev, and leave only a rump, landlocked "state" with nazi-infested Lviv as its bureaucratic center. His investors will be very upset.

South Africa didn't dare to host Putin in defiance of the West despite being more populous, militarily stronger, and prosperous than Mongolia, not to mention a BRICS member, which should prompt Alt-Media observers reconsider a lot of what they'd hitherto taken for granted.

President Putin was greeted with an honor guard after arriving in Mongolia for his trip this week, where he brought with him an impressive delegation whose diverse expertise confirms his stated intent to continue comprehensively developing their strategic partnership. All of that is standard when it comes to state visits, but what's so exceptional about this one is that Mongolia is a member of the "International Criminal Court" (ICC) and thus obligated to act on that body's politicized arrest warrant for Putin.

Its government instead defied Western pressure and proudly prioritized their national interests, which this analysis here argues have to do with recalibrating their geopolitical balancing act in a decisively pro-Russian direction as a result of the accelerated global systemic transition to multipolarity. The example set by this sparsely populated and landlocked state sharply contrasts with South Africa's after it was too scared to host Putin during last year's BRICS Summit.

Bolstering the country's naval force is an urgent task, DPRK leader Kim Jong-un said during site visit.

North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un has visited the construction site of a new "modern naval base" and has pledged to further develop the country's maritime forces. The new facility's location would give Pyongyang a strategic advantage, he said.

Late last year, Kim ordered North Korea's military and arms-manufacturing industry to "further accelerate war preparations" in the face of what he characterized as "unprecedented" acts of confrontation against the country by the US and its regional allies.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea has since intensified missile tests and also unveiled a new multiple rocket launcher and kamikaze drones, among other weaponry.

On Sunday, the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Kim's inspection of the port construction site. The media outlet quoted the country's leader as singling out the development of a modern navy as an urgent priority, given the "regional security environment."

The US presidential candidate has pledged 100% tariffs on countries that are seeking to replace the greenback in international transactions.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has claimed that dumping the US dollar will be extremely costly for foreign countries which pursue the policy, adding that they will face unprecedented import taxes for pursuing non-dollar trade.

Speaking to his supporters during a campaign rally in Wisconsin on Saturday, the former US president pledged to maintain the status of the greenback as the world's reserve currency, emphasizing that it is "under major siege" as a growing number of states have been turning to other ways of settling trades.

"You leave the dollar and you're not doing business with the US, because we are going to put a 100% tariff on your goods" Trump said.

Former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney made clear her war against former President Donald Trump won't be limited to her endorsement of Kamala Harris and will include campaigning in battleground states this fall.

In an interview Friday at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin, Cheney also said her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, would be voting for Harris. The audience erupted in cheers after she mentioned her father's vote.

Later, the former Republican vice president — one of the two living to say they wouldn't back Trump — himself issued a statement confirming his daughter's remarks, saying Trump "can never be trusted with power again."

"As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution. That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris," he said in a statement.

Trump, in a post on Truth Social, was dismissive of the former vice president's endorsement of Harris. "Dick Cheney is an irrelevant RINO," he wrote, using the acronym for "Republican in name only."

The Harris campaign welcomed Dick Cheney — and anyone else in the GOP who wants to join what it said in a statement are hundreds of other Republicans who support her.

The 81-year-old commander-in-chief has racked up 532 vacation days in less than four years — about 40% of the 1, 326 days he's been in office.

It would take the average American — who gets 11 days a year of vacation — approximately 48 years to accumulate that number of days off, according to shocking data compiled by the Republican National Committee.

"The image of Biden fast asleep and lying flat on his back in his chair at the beach while America and the world is on fire will define the Biden presidency," said Mark Paoletta, the general counsel of the White House budget office under former President Donald Trump.

"Inflation has been out of control; prices still way too high; our border overrun with millions of illegal aliens committing violent crimes on our citizens; the world in a perilous state; and all Biden wants to do is go on vacation and check out — for more than 530 days," he said.

The entrenched authorities are bent on inserting Kamala Harris into office using lawfare, despite her resounding unpopularity and anti-populism. On September 4th, 2024, the United States Department of Justice issued a press release from its Office of Public Affairs, detailing and making public a sealed indictment (it can be read here) against two Russian nationals, who are said to be employees of RT, for 'funneling' US $10mln to various high-profile social media content creators. What strikes us immediately is that this is not a crime, even though the word 'funneling' is a strongly loaded term in the sense of neuro-linguistic programming, and so the DOJ's approach to geopolitical lawfare as an extended form of political warfare in the information sphere, has been to find a legal theory that would support 'finding' and 'creating' charges on the basis of the two accused having conspired to fail to register as foreign agents.
