Israel: Terrorist cell, allegedly planning attack on Netanyahu and Jerusalem mayor, thwarted

Israel's Shin Bet thwarted a terrorist cell that was planning attacks against senior Israeli officials including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to an investigation cited by media. Three people have been arrested.

A terrorist operative from Syria was at least partly behind the cell, according to Ynet. In addition to a planned attack against Netanyahu, it was also targeting Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, buildings belonging to the American consulate, and Canadian representatives staying in Jerusalem.

Muhammad Jamal Rashda reportedly planned the attacks with the guidance of terrorist elements abroad, including an operative from Syria. However, the 30-year-old - who had already served time in jail for terrorism-related offenses - never met with other operatives, no money was transferred, and no arms were purchased, according to defense officials cited by Haaretz. They said his arrest was done at the initial stage of the planning process.

The cell had also planned to bring in a terrorist operative from Jordan to help carry out some of the attacks.

According to the investigation, Rashda had already carried out preliminary moves to collect intelligence on his targets, following orders received from Syria. He was arrested on April 24, and two other suspects were arrested in the following weeks. Shin Bet has declined to identify those suspects, but they are reportedly part of the Popular Front of the Liberation of Palestine.

Comment: Seems like there is a lot of 'connected information discovery' for just the 'initial stages of the planning process.' What is less speculative is the timing of the arrest, the actual intel, and the exact determinations of who, what, and where. Convenient to a purpose? Legit or cry wolf? With Israel and how it does things - nothing is as it seems, nor how it is portrayed.

President Putin invites Kim Jong-un to Russia for official visit

Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un to pay an official visit to Russia. The invitation came in a personal letter that was delivered earlier by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

One of the possible occasions for the visit could be the 4th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia's Far Eastern city near its border with North Korea. The forum will take place on September 11-13. However, the visit depends on Pyongyang, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"Time will show to what extent it is convenient for the North Korean side," he told journalists on Monday. Peskov added that the issue is to be worked on via diplomatic channels and there are no specific details on the meeting so far.

The top Russian diplomat travelled to the North Korean capital last week to discuss the course of intra-Korean negotiations and de-escalation in the region with senior officials. After receiving Putin's personal letter, Kim reaffirmed his commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

A phone call between Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron last week reportedly went badly, after Macron berated Trump for his trade policies, a media report claims.

The two leaders talked about trade and the migration problem in Libya. According to CNN's anonymous 'sources familiar with the call,' it was "just bad, it was terrible."

"Macron thought he would be able to speak his mind, based on the relationship," the source said. "But Trump can't handle being criticized like that."

The call took place on the same day that the Trump administration slapped import tariffs on steel and aluminum from Mexico, the EU, and Canada. The tariffs were widely condemned, and - in a public statement before the call - Macron called them illegal and "a mistake on many points."
"It is a mistake because it responds to a worldwide unbalance that exists in the worst ways through fragmentations and economic nationalism," he said. "I prefer to say things directly and not through the press; and I will tell him what I told you, which are my convictions that he knows already."
Macron stressed that there would be a European response, and the EU announced on Friday that it would cease trade negotiations with the US and slap retaliatory tariffs on $3.3-billion worth of American products, including orange juice, peanut butter, and Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Canada, Mexico and the EU had initially been exempted from the tariffs of 25 percent on imported steel and 10 percent on imported aluminum as they were announced in March. The countries have reacted by a taking retaliatory measures and filing cases against Washington at the World Trade Organization (WTO).

"Both leaders discussed the migration problem in Libya, and timelines to solve it.

President Trump underscored the need to rebalance trade with Europe," said the White House.

Europe's attempts to limit Iran's ballistic missile program will never become reality, Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said, adding that Tehran has no plans to limit is influence across the Middle East, either.

"Some Europeans are talking about limiting our defensive missile program. I am telling the Europeans: Limiting our missile development is a dream that will never come true," Khamenei said, in a televised speech at a large gathering to mark the 29th anniversary of the death of 1979 Iranian Revolution leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

In May, US President Donald Trump pulled the US from the landmark 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers. He called the accord (which saw Iran curbing its nuclear military program in exchange for the lifting of international sanctions) deeply flawed and wanted a deal that would both limit Tehran's ballistic missile program and its increasing influence in regional affairs.

It is worth noting briefly that Zhirinovsky leads an opposition party, and was the third most popular candidate in the Russian election.

Due to the fact he ran in the Russian election, he obviously ran against Putin, meaning Zhirinovsky is NOT for the record, a Kremlinbot...these are the words of an opposition candidate, so the west should be careful what they wish for, when they wish for a different Russian leader.

Amercian exceptionalism is perhaps the greatest issue plaguing the American consciousness, and has been since the early days of manifest destiny. British Prime Minister Theresa May is facing condemnation from fellow Parliamentarians amid reports that she will seek to overturn the House of Lord's obstruction of her Brexit legislation in the coming week, setting the stage for another potential challenge to her leadership of the Conservative government.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that, in order to stop internal conflict in Ukraine, Kiev authorities could grant special status with broader powers to the republics of Donbass, just as Russia had done with Chechnya.

In an extensive interview to the Austrian TV channel ORF, the full transcript of which was published on the Kremlin web-site on Tuesday, Putin said that "Russia had to make a very complicated decision and grant the Chechen Republic and many other federation subjects such status that gave them a great degree of independence within the Russian Federation."

"By the way, the same thing could be done in Ukraine in regards of the Donbass republics and I wonder, why have not they done it yet? Under such scenario there is no necessity to restrict the usage of ethnic minorities' languages in Ukraine, I mean not only Russian but also Romanian, Hungarian and Polish. There is little talk about it in Europe but these are the today's realities," the Russian president said.

Comment: In the meantime Donbass and Lugansk suffer, having been eclipsed by other, more recent events. But they still resist being overrun by Kiev's neonazi crazies.

Matteo Salvini, Italy's interior minister as part of the country's new government, said Monday the country will no longer be "Europe's refugee camp," promising tough action to reduce migrant and refugee arrivals and deport a large number of people.

"The good times are over," the right-wing leader said during a pompous military parade, adding, "The free ride is over. It's time to pack your bags." Salvini, head of the right-wing League and a deputy prime minister in the eurosceptic coalition, has made curbing immigration one of agenda's top items.

Comment: Looks like the Italians have had enough of the mass migration onslaught. It remains to be seen if Salvini's words will lead to action.

The Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza rejected the Organization of American States' intention to discuss "the situation in Venezuela" during its general assembly's session taking part in Washington on Monday and Tuesday.

Arreaza claimed the discussion point was not approved according to the corresponding legal procedures, because Venezuela as a member state rejected its inclusion in the agenda.

"We have not questioned the whole agenda, but just the point about the situation in Venezuela. It's not true that Venezuela doesn't want an agenda, like some have said in the last days," he said, "but we consider we must do things with the correct procedures."

The UK will see a "full spectrum" threat from Moscow for years to come, says Tory MP Bob Seely, in yet another attempt to foster Russophobia by publishing anti-Kremlin propaganda masquerading as a peer-reviewed study.

The study, written for right-wing think tank, the Henry Jackson Society (HJS), perpetuates the Conservatives' Russia hate campaign by detailing what he calls the "first comprehensive definition of the nature of modern Russian warfare." HJS, which describes itself as a "policy-shaping force... to combat extremism, advance democracy and real human rights," has previously been accused by advocacy groups of scaremongering over a report on Islamist terrorism in the UK.

According to the paper itself, the study was peer-reviewed by staunch anti-Russian academic Dr Andrew Foxall. In the document, Seely also refers to two others who reviewed the paper. However, it does not bother to name them.
