Balkans in turmoil, in Belgrade a St. Bartholomew's Night is in the works

Romania

Churchill observed once in his inimitable condescending style that Balkan peoples have more history than they know what to do with. Judging by the current events, Churchill was perhaps more right than even he could have suspected.

Where to begin? Perhaps Romania would be a good start. In that NATO/EU member and proving ground of Western democracy, the unsuitable Presidential candidate Calin Georgescu, who was winning in the election, was unceremoniously banned on trumped-up charges from participating in the political process. What then was the point, one might ask, of shooting Nicolae and Elena like dogs? What most naively had thought was a laudable act of tyrannicide is now exposed as just plain murder.

To disqualify him, Georgescu was smeared as a "far right" politician, "populist," "nationalist," anti-NATO, anti-EU and anti its fraudulent "values," and for good measure also a Kremlin puppet who, preposterously, promoted his successful candidacy against abundantly financed and media-supported rival candidates by weaponising the Chinese owned Tik Tok platform. A bogus dossier, debunked within days of publication, was duly produced to corroborate the fictitious Russian and Tik Tok connection behind Georgescu's candidacy. (President Trump should be particularly sensitive and sympathetic to Georgescu on this score, having not so long ago been victim to a similar scam, the infamous Steele dossier.) Ultimately, the majority of the epithets pinned on Georgescu were proved either false or were shown to constitute acceptable views that in a functioning democracy a political candidate was entitled to espouse.

But these trivial details left no impression whatsoever on the Romanian judges who were faithfully following their marching orders from NATO and Brussels, whilst the European Court of Human Rights declined to even consider the minor matter of Georgescu's aborted candidacy, citing an obscure technicality.

Furious crowds in the hundreds of thousands in the streets of Bucharest and other Romanian cities are manifesting their outrage at the electoral coup, but so far to little avail. On Tuesday 11 March, a day after Romania's cowardly Supreme Court, without even bothering to cite a legal basis, rejected his final appeal, Calin Georgescu made his case directly to the Romanian nation and to the indifferent world in a poignant address that should have shaken every decent person to the core. It is worth watching and pondering like few other political statements in recent memory.

Best of the Web: Mark Carney: A technocrat superstar and eco-warrior takes the helm of Canada

mark carney canada technocrat great reset
In September 2024, I published an article titled 'Eco-Warrior Mark Carney: Set up to Replace Trudeau and Usher in Great Reset'.

Now that Carney has been officially installed as the interim Prime Minister of Canada, I'd like to expand a bit on that thesis and explain how the decision to replace Justin Trudeau with the much more vicious technocrat can only be understood by 1) recognizing the systemic breakdown now at play, and 2) the historic role of the British Empire in using Canada as a weapon against Canadians, and especially Americans going back for over two centuries.

Canada as a British Weapon Against America

In the 19th century, Canada was recognized as a principal enemy of the USA, as Confederate intelligence had enjoyed vast patronage and support by the British Empire through its web of intelligence bases in Montreal and Toronto. These Confederate intelligence networks not only coordinated terrorist operations against the Union from the north, but additionally paid and directed John Wilkes Booth to murder Lincoln after the war's end.

These facts were outlined in detail in Barry Sheehy's brilliant 2017 book Montreal: City of Secrets.

Former head of Israeli military intelligence welcomes 'chaos' in Syria

The former head of the Israeli Military Intelligence Directorate has voiced his support for the "power struggle" in Syria, adding that the "chaos" benefits Israel.

"The chaos in Syria is beneficial. Let them fight each other. But Israel should remain silent on this matter and not make any public statements. It should act calmly," Tamir Hayman said in an interview with the Israeli Army Radio.

Hayman, who now serves as the director of the Institute for National Security Studies, welcomed the conflict between the different factions in Syria, but added that Israel must stay quiet.

"We wish victory to all forces, but we must do one thing, do this silently, and not talk about it."

He said while in the short term there appears to be power struggle in Syria, the new government is trying to extend its control.

Europe faces a MAGA 'vibe-shift' as Trump moves to his primordial objective - The Global Reset

President Trump wants Ukraine settled, full stop. This is so that he can move ahead quickly - to normalise with Russia, and begin the 'big picture' project of setting a new World Order, one that will end wars and facilitate business ties.

The point here - which Europe feigns to not understand - is that the end to the Ukraine conflict simply is Trump's 'gateway' to the entire rationale and platform on which he stood: The Great Reset of the Geo-Political landscape. Ukraine, simply said, is the obstacle to Trump's pursuit of his primordial objective: The Global Reset.

Starmer, Macron and the eastern wing of the Euro-élites are blind to the sheer scale of the global vibe-shift towards traditionalist U.S. politics and ethics. They miss too, the barely concealed fury in the Trump world that exists behind this nascent revolution. Allister Heath writes:
"The Maga Right has none of the inhibitions of its predecessors. It is planning to leverage the power of a recaptured state to annihilate its enemies."
The European Ruling Class is in desperate trouble and increasingly isolated, in a world shifting 'Rightward' at breakneck speed. "The U.S. is now the enemy of the West", the FT proclaims. European leaders wantonly won't understand.

The reality is that the U.S. is engaged now in rolling up Europe's foreign policy. And, is about to start exporting U.S. traditional Republican values to roll up the European wokeist belief-system. The European Ruling strata - far removed from its base - has failed to grasp the threat to its own interests (a scenario outlined here).

Syria's Jolani invited to EU donor summit at very moment his troops massacre Alawites, Christians

Many local eyewitness accounts say that the Syrian jihadist mass killings targeting Alawites and Christians along Syria's coast in Latakia and Tartous governates is continuing, even as the mainstream media has largely stopped covering the massacres. The killings began on a large-scale last Friday and appear to have continued, despite denials from Damascus.

For example, at a time when many thought the killings were over, a well-known Mideast regional correspondent said Tuesday:
"I just got an urgent message from somebody in Baniyas, Syria telling me that gunmen are RIGHT NOW spotted in the small Alawite village of Al Sin, close to Huraysun & 10 km north of Baniyas. Gunmen roaming through the village. Civilians terrified, hiding in houses & nearby fields."
Tens of thousands of persecuted Syrian civilians are currently seeking the safety of both northern Lebanon and Russia's Kmeimim Air Base, as we documented earlier. In some cases, troops from Jolani's ruling Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) as well as foreign fighters are approaching the gates of the base as they hunt down Alawites and non-Sunni 'heretics'.

Russia not interested in temporary Ukraine deal - Putin aide

Ushakov

Russia is not interested in temporary solutions to the Ukraine conflict and instead wants to achieve a lasting peaceful settlement that takes Moscow's interests and concerns into account, President Vladimir Putin's foreign policy aide Yury Ushakov has said.

His comments come as US envoy Steve Witkoff is in Moscow to present the results of talks between representatives from Kiev and Washington in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, after which they released a joint statement backing a 30-day ceasefire.

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed on Thursday that Russia is ready for a ceasefire but that the terms of such an arrangement should be clarified. Putin has said as far back as July 2024 that Moscow is not interested in short-term pauses but is ready to engage on addressing the causes of the conflict.

In an interview with Russia-1 TV on Thursday, Ushakov outlined Moscow's goal of "a long-term peaceful settlement that takes into account the legitimate interests of our country and our known concerns," a position consistently reiterated by Russian officials since the escalation of conflict in 2022.

Arab League summit for Gaza

Arab League

In its Gaza plan, Egypt writes:
"There will be no major international funding for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Gaza if Hamas remains the dominant and armed political element on the ground, controlling local governance."
This is why Cairo proposed to remove Hamas and replace it with interim bodies controlled by Arab, Muslim and Western states.

In Cairo, the Arab League adopted a project to rebuild Gaza based on the Egyptian plan. The final text consists of about a hundred pages. It acts to sideline Hamas and increases the aid needed for reconstruction from $20 billion to $53 billion. Nearly half of Gaza's residents are expected to be transferred to seven security zones while construction begins.

Comment: The US stepping out of multi-country decisions staggers the imagination.

Putin peels off the masks of the ceasefire kabuki

Trump & Putin

The "ceasefire" announced with trademark bombast by Team Trump 2.0 should be seen as a tawdry kabuki inside a cheap matryoshka.

As we peel off the successive masks, the last one standing inside the matryoshka is a woke transvestite tiny dancer: a Minsk 3 in drag.

Now cue to a "ceasefire" redux: President Putin in uniform only for the second time since the start of the SMO, dead serious, visiting the frontline in Kursk.

Finally, cue to the actual peel off operation: Putin's press conference after his meeting with Lukashenko in Moscow.

Ceasefire? Of course. We support it. And then, methodically, diplomatically, the Russian President pulled a Caravaggio, and went all-out chiaroscuro on every geopolitical and military detail of the American gambit. A consumate artful deconstruction.

End result: the ball is now back in Donald Trump's court. Incidentally the leader of the revamping-in-progress Empire of Chaos who does not (italics mine) have the cards.

The forever wars may be over, but Trump is no peacemaker

The new guard of kleptocrats are seeking quick deals on Gaza and Ukraine not because they want peace but because they have found a better way to make themselves even richer.

Anyone trying to make sense of the Trump administration's policy towards Gaza should have a thumping headache by now.

Initially, US President Donald Trump called for the mass expulsion of Palestinians from the tiny territory wrecked by Israel over the past year and a half, so that he could build the "Riviera of the Middle East" on the crushed bodies of Gaza's children.

He followed up last week with an explicitly genocidal threat addressed to "the people of Gaza" - all two million-plus of them. They will be "DEAD" if the Israeli hostages held by Hamas are not quickly released - a decision over which Gaza's population has precisely no control.

To make this extermination threat more credible, his administration has expedited the transfer of an extra $4bn worth of US weapons to Israel, bypassing Congressional approval.

Those arms include more of the 2,000lb bombs sent by the Biden administration, which turned Gaza into a "demolition site", as Trump himself called it.

The White House also nodded through Israel's reimposition of a blockade that has once again choked off food, water and fuel to the enclave - further evidence of Israel's genocidal intent.

But while all this was going on, Trump also dispatched to the region a special envoy, Adam Boehler, to negotiate the release of the few dozen Israeli hostages still held in Gaza.

He was given permission to break with 30 years of US foreign policy and meet directly with Hamas, long designated a terrorist organisation by Washington.

Putin lists guarantees Moscow wants for 30-day ceasefire

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed support for a potential 30-day ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict but has raised concerns regarding how such a truce be implemented. Speaking on Thursday, Putin warned of potential loopholes and strategic disadvantages.

"We also want guarantees that during the 30-day ceasefire, Ukraine will not conduct mobilization, will not train soldiers, and will not receive weapons," Putin said during a press briefing with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko in Moscow.

The president pointed out that Russian troops are advancing along nearly 2,000 kilometers of frontline, and halting military actions could disrupt ongoing operations. Ukrainian forces could use a ceasefire period to regroup, receive more weapons, and train fresh recruits, he warned.

"These 30 days — how will they be used? To continue forced mobilization in Ukraine? To receive more arms supplies? To train newly mobilized units? Or will none of this happen?" Putin asked.
