The prince of propaganda: How one journalist feeds the Western media's hunger for lies about Russia

disinformation, misinformation, manipulation

Will Stewart is one of today's most productive British journalists. In fact, he might just be one of the most widely published hacks in the history of the trade. Each year, hundreds of his articles are published in major publications. However, most of his work is an attempt to incite fear and hatred.

Russians are no strangers to bad press. Cold War narratives haven't gone anywhere and even prior to the Ukraine conflict, Western journalists used any opportunity to publish sensationalist news about the country, regardless of whether it had any basis in reality.

A 2019 study showed that only 2% of all items published about Russia in Western media were positive. Which left 98% as either negative, or deemed neutral.

The most impressive fact, however, is that a single man was behind many of them - Stewart, who has apparently worked in Russia since 1993.

Stewart's portfolio on MuckRack boasts almost 15,000 articles in over 40 publications. Most of them are about Russia and are written in the same style: a scandalous headline, a manipulative account of events, and a few quotes from controversial experts. Stewart is most often published in The Sun, The Daily Mail and The Mirror - British tabloids that typically pay equal attention to sensationalist themes.

Comment: A lesson on the importance of discernment.

West only cares about itself - Zakharova to RT

The US and EU media landscape is filled with "unsettling aggression" while dissenting opinions are stifled, according to the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman.

Western leaders and media only express their concerns when they feel that their own security might be at stake, turning a blind eye to the suffering caused by their policies, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told RT in an interview aired on Saturday.

The West routinely accuses Russia of aggressive actions but refuses to understand that Moscow is only responding to the hostile moves of the US and its allies, she stated.

Zakharova recalled being approached by a group of British journalists worried about Russia potentially deploying its weapons closer to the UK. She was asked to comment on statements by President Vladimir Putin earlier this week that Russia could send weapons to certain regions to be able to strike Kiev's arms suppliers directly if Russian territory is attacked.

Hunter Biden found guilty on federal gun charges after a trial that exposed his addiction relapses

A jury in Delaware on Tuesday found Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, guilty on three felony gun charges after a weeklong trial that focused on his history of drug addiction.

Hunter Biden was charged in federal court in Wilmington with three felony counts tied to possession of a gun while using narcotics, and had pleaded not guilty. The jury started its deliberations on Monday afternoon, and deliberated for about three hours before returning the historic verdict.

Hunter Biden looked straight ahead at the jury as it delivered the verdict, and slightly nodded as it was read.

The trial was the first involving the offspring of a sitting president, and came as Joe Biden is facing a brutal re-election fight against former President Donald Trump in November. First lady Jill Biden was not in the courtroom as the verdict was read, and arrived at the courthouse minutes later. She immediately went into a holding room where Hunter Biden went after the verdict.

Comment: The gun charges were allowed to go forward because they don't touch Creepy Joe, and to give the illusion that the justice system works. Hunter knows even if he does "time", it will be in a cushy lockup, and that having a felony conviction on his record won't matter much, if at all. It's good to be a Democrat.

Notice too, that anything that might connect Hunter's shady business dealings to Biden Sr. is being handwaved away under a gazillion legal motions. Another sort of lawfare.

Scrubbed database, then fed WaPo disinformation

Last week, Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene took a detour from grilling Anthony Fauci over COVID-19, to confront him with photos of beagles who had been subjected to animal testing experiments widely reported to be funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under the National Institutes of Health (NIH), following a 2021 investigation series by the group White Coat Waste Project.

"We should be recommending you to be prosecuted," Greene told Fauci. "We should be writing a criminal referral because you should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity. You belong in prison," she continued, adding "That man does not deserve to have a license. As a matter of fact, it should be revoked and he belongs in prison."

NappyGate makes Biden the most disgraced U.S. president in history

Brandon and Napoleon

Joe Biden's attendance of the D-Day memorial in France was a disgrace and one which he will struggle to shrug off when the annals of history are written. Never before has a U.S. president stooped so low to use the event as a stage for his own PR strategy to get re-elected and harp on about Ukraine. Some may believe he plagiarised Reagan's speech almost 40 years earlier, but they miss the point. The D-Day commemorations are all about celebrating peace and learning lessons from history. They are not about celebrating war and calling for more blood on any battlefield, let alone Ukraine's. Interestingly, Ukraine's president was invited to the event, but not the Russian leader which corresponds with a trend now that many geopolitical analysts are noting: how Russia's critical contribution to defeating Nazi Germany is getting airbrushed out of the entire media landscape. Fake news has entered the domain of how such events are reported as we have to assume that Russia defeating Nazism in the West - and in particular in Ukraine in the 1940s - cannot be allowed a media spotlight as some voters in the West might draw the parallel with how Russia even today is continuing the theme.

This time around, though, it is the Nazis in Germany who we in the West are backing. It's pretty complicated. Have pity on the journalists who can even get their heads around it. Most simply chose to navigate around the Nazis in Ukraine altogether as was evident when recently a brigade visited the British parliament and not one national newspaper or TV channel covered the extraordinary event which included a flag, reminiscent of German Nazis, being presented to a proud Boris Johnson in the parliament itself. Remarkable what is possible when you have such control over the press. And even more remarkable how, when you take such control, that one of the perks is that it is not at all considered odd or incongruous when you start believing your own fake news.

Zelensky not the one running Ukraine - The Times

Chief of staff Andrey Yermak is de facto the head of state, critics have told the outlet.

Multiple Ukrainian officials have complained to British daily The Times about the growing power of Vladimir Zelensky's chief of staff Andrey Yermak, who they say de facto runs Ukraine.

The 52-year-old has previously been described as "Zelensky's right-hand man" and "Ukraine's real power broker." Officials in Kiev now say he has become something more, the outlet has reported.

The Times' Maxim Tucker wrote in the article published on Friday:
"Yermak's authority has surpassed that of all of Ukraine's elected officials bar the president. Some sources went so far as to describe him as the 'de facto head of state' or 'Ukraine's vice-president' in a series of interviews."
Tucker, who previously worked as Amnesty International's campaigner on Ukraine, claimed to have spoken with "senior government, military, law enforcement and diplomatic sources," many of whom requested anonymity. He described Yermak as Zelensky's "greatest flaw," and his behavior as "thirst for power."

Comment: Who runs Ukraine? Be it one guy or the global village, it doesn't seem to matter. The focus is Russia.

Scott Ritter, another American voice for sanity and peace, gets cancelled

SRItter

The sinister prevention of Scott Ritter travelling to speak and broadcast from Russia this week by United States authorities is a sure sign that the Western imperialist warmongers are afraid of the truth.

Indeed, there is a dark shadow cast on their pretensions of "democracy and freedom" - ironically in a week that supposedly commemorates the D-Day landings and the historic fight against fascism.

The former U.S. Marine and United Nations weapons inspector has gained worldwide respect as an independent political commentator and analyst. Ritter has become a powerful critic of the United States and NATO's proxy war in Ukraine. He has staunchly appealed for dialogue and diplomacy, warning that the reckless provocations by Washington and its allies towards Russia are driving the world to a nuclear conflagration.

This week, Ritter was due to fly from New York to Istanbul, on his way to attend the St Petersburg International Economic Forum in Russia. The annual forum is attended by thousands of delegates from all over the world. He was hauled off the flight by U.S. police officers and his passport was confiscated before being escorted from the airport. There was no official explanation for the draconian interdiction to his travel plans. The U.S. State Department refused to comment on the matter, saying it was a private matter.

Comment: Freedom to distinguish, assess and determine on a personal basis is fundamental to 'our right to choose'. Under Biden America has 'jumped the shark'.

If wishes were fishes - a teachable intermezzo

2fish
© Fishwishes clipart-library.com/KJN'Going Nowhere'
This is the most significant reality of the world picture now: the wishes of the manager class are going in one direction while the actual dynamics of economy and politics go in the opposite direction. The managers wish for their management of systems to become as centralized and top-down as possible; but the very systems they manage are breaking down and seeking to reorganize at smaller scale, distributed locally. The tension entailed is explosive.

Forgive me for reiterating a basic principle driving this moment in history: everything organized at the gigantic scale is steaming toward failure: big governments, giant companies, the huge capital investment firms, global shipping, energy production, chain retailing, mass motoring, big electricity, big medicine, big education, big anything. They are all fixing to fail while our politicians and economists make plans based on consolidating them into one super-gigantic mega-system that will run flawlessly on computer tech magic.

Myanmar's civil war: A golden opportunity for U.S. sabotage of China's interests

Myanmar
© thealtworld.substack.comMyanmar's civil war
The real U.S. objective is to exploit the turmoil in the country as a way to contain China and undermine Beijing's strategic interests.

Myanmar's civil war is in a critical phase where the ruling military government is losing significant territory to a broad coalition of insurgent armies. It is estimated that insurgents now control over half the area in the Southeast Asian country after nearly three years of conflict.

Washington views the conflict as an "unmissable opportunity" to topple the military rulers and restore an elected government. The real objective of the United States is not to support democratic politics in Myanmar or peace and stability, but rather to exploit the turmoil in the country as a way to contain China and undermine Beijing's strategic interests.

In a set-piece interview with Time magazine published this week, President Joe Biden reiterated that Washington is pursuing a Cold War-style containment strategy against Russia and China. As the U.S.-led proxy war in Ukraine against Russia looks increasingly like a dead-end from the West's perspective, one can expect Washington to up the ante by turning its focus more on hampering China as a geopolitical rival. In his Time interview, Biden provocatively talks about "defending Taiwan against a Chinese invasion", and mobilization of other Asia-Pacific nations in a U.S.-led alliance to curb Beijing's influence.

Bayer will start selling genetically modified salad greens in US stores

Genetically modified food

Chemical giant Bayer last week signed an exclusive
licensing agreement with Pairwise, a genetic-based food startup, to develop and market its CRISPR-edited mustard greens.

Pairwise was the first company to bring produce created with the gene-editing technology known as CRISPR to the U.S. market when last year it started selling its mustard greens in some restaurants, hotels and retirement centers in a few U.S. cities.
