The Bruce Highway has been cut north of Mackay as heavy rain lashes parts of the state's east coast.

The major arterial is closed in both directions just south of Proserpine due to rapidly rising floodwater in Goorganga Creek.

Police and councils said they were unsure when the road would reopen.

In the 24 hours to 11am, the O'Connell River at Banana Pocket recorded the highest rainfall in the Mackay-Whitsunday region with more than 322mm.

Stafford received 268mm, and Mt Jukes received 234mm.

Emergency services received multiple requests for assistance in the Goorganga Creek area this morning, including for a truck and a freight train stuck in floodwater.

But the drivers no longer needed assistance before emergency services arrived.

Floodwater has closed the train line between Bibialo and Yalboro.

Three other freight trains were also impacted by the flooding.

More than 1,600 people were without power between Seaforth, Kuttabul and Habana.

Ergon Energy said the damage was likely weather-related, and crews were conducting fault-finding patrols.

Proserpine Airport was inaccessible due to the flooding and multiple flights were cancelled.

More than a dozen local roads were closed in Mackay, Proserpine, and Bowen.

The Bureau of Meteorology removed its severe thunderstorm warning; however, there were flood warnings in place for multiple North Queensland rivers, including the Pioneer River and Don River.
