A former University of Arizona frat pledge is seeking $1 million in damages after suffering a chemical burn when a bro poured hot sauce into his eye during an alleged hazing ritual, according to a report.

The one-time aspiring member of Theta Chi fraternity at the 44,000-student university in Tucson filed an amended notice of claim earlier this week detailing the chemical burn and blood infection he said he suffered after the April 12 incident, the Arizona Daily Star reports.

The unidentified student, who has since withdrawn from the university, alleges that a Theta Chi member hurled a shot glass of El Yucateco Habanero into his eyes after the student incorrectly identified the frat brother's hometown.

Moments earlier, the pledge was forced to gulp down a shot of Tapatio hot sauce for his first incorrect answer, according to the claim.

The frat also forced pledges to run and do push-ups during exhausting workouts, sometimes while Nazi Party-related music blared inside darkened rooms, the report said. And anyone who got a question about the personal details of a member wrong would be assaulted, according to the former pledge.

"When [the student] or another initiate failed to answer correctly, the older members would kick them in the chest or head," the filing states.

The pledge claims he wasn't allowed to wash his eyes out after the alleged hot sauce attack, and was forced to do push-ups on a filthy floor, cutting his elbows and palms on broken glass.

A specialist has recommended surgery to remove scar tissue from the pledge's allegedly damaged eye. He also had a blood infection stemming from the cuts on his arms, according to the claim.

"We're also hoping to bring awareness to this type of hazing," the student's attorney, Robert Thompson, told the newspaper. "People might become aware of this type of behavior so it doesn't happen again."

The frat was placed on interim suspension for alleged hazing after an initial notice of claim was filed in August, according to a university spokesman who declined to comment on the accusations, citing pending litigation.

In 2015, Theta Chi was banned from the university's campus for four years for a paddling ritual doled out during hazing of new members. The suspension was later shortened when the frat agreed to remove all current members with some exceptions, the Daily Star reports.
