Cesar Schmitz, 48, attempted to obliterate the cockroaches Friday by pouring gasoline on his lawn and striking a match, which set off a massive explosion on the property in the southern city of Enéas Marques, according to footage obtained by FocusOn News.
"My wife complained that there was a lot of roaches invading our garden," he told the outlet. "She is scared of them and begged me to destroy their nest under the ground once and for all."
Home security footage showed Schmitz setting a match, which he throws in a hole in the lawn crawling with the pests.
Within moments, the yard explodes, sending debris flying and his two panicked dogs running.
No one was harmed, but the homeowner said he'll need to replant his garden.
"I had no idea that this could happen," Schmitz said. "Luckily the damage was only contained on the lawn. If I had been standing closer or the table had hit me, it could have been fatal."

Though.., cockroaches... Aren't they the ones who can survive a nuclear war? A petrol bomb may not be enough.

* (In Florida, it's a common, nasty part of life. That was one of many reasons I lived in and still love Cal; the weather, no bugs, etc.) The average evening temperature here for the middle 5 months of the year is a low of 76 but with humidity of over 85% and skeeters that can carry you away. This past summer we had quite a few nights that the low was 82 and over 90% humidity.
