Archaeologists have stumbled upon what they believe are the ruins of an ancient pyramid in Kazakhstan which would considerably pre-date some of Egypt's iconic pyramids.
Local archaeologists found the ruins in the Sary-Arka region near the city of Karaganda and believe that it was built for an important figure.
The team excavating the area say that the pyramid is likely more than 3,000-years old.
Viktor Novozhenov, from Karaganda State University, told Yahoo News: "Judging by the monumental construction, this mausoleum was built more than 3,000 years ago for a local king.
"We are going to look inside the mausoleum this week. Everything that we find inside will be sent to the Karaganda Archaeological Museum."

The experts add that it was likely built as a monument for royalty, and although excavations are still underway, the archaeologists found a small mausoleum - a grand building with a tomb inside - that measured 2 metres tall and 15 by 14 metres long.
Mr Novozhenov added that the "mausoleum resembles the famous Egyptian pyramids".
However there are some differences.

This pyramid's structure consists of six stepped layers with a flat top, rather than Egypt's iconic pointy pyramids.
Further dating needs to be conducted, but experts believe that it was build during the bronze age around 3,000 years ago - making it slightly older than the Great Pyramid of Giza, but younger than the Pyramid of Djoser in Sakkara, Egypt, which was built about 1,000 years earlier.
It is unclear who was buried in the tomb as it shows evidence that it has been robbed, with only fragments of pottery, a knife and unidentified bronze objects found during the excavation.
Still, experts are nonetheless excited by the findings as they hope that it will shed more light on the mysterious Begazy-Dandybai culture that inhabited Kazakhstan at the time.

Assuming their datelines are sort of accurate, perhaps, like now, not every region of the world had the ability to build the nice big ones and instead did what they could on their own in imitation? a DIY project?
