Notice how this threat comes as much milder Spring weather is well underway, and, of course, since there has been considerable reverse pumping from W. European sources. Even so, this is much like the sheriff in "Blazing Saddles" threatening to shoot himself.
It's about time Russia stopped bending over backwards to accommodate the often ridiculous demands of buyers wanting discounts/subsidies/payment deferrals/etc. and resort to normal market pricing and "cash on the barrelhead" sales to all comers. Yes, Russia needs income from gas sales, but I expect that its customers need Russian gas at least as much as Russia needs the sales.
