Mount Dora Police Discover Incident In Walmart Parking Lot



Mount Dora, Florida - A man and woman were arrested early Monday after they were found living with three children, one of whom had second-degree burns, inside a garbage-filled car in the parking lot of a Mount Dora Walmart, according to authorities.

Justin Hamilton, 31, of Paisley, and Kristin Harris, 26, of Eustis, were arrested and charged with child neglect.

According to Mount Dora police, officers were called around 7:40 a.m. to the Walmart on U.S. Highway 441 in connection with a suspicious vehicle.

Police said they found two adults and three children inside a 1987 Cadillac Coupe Deville. According to Mount Dora police, Hamilton and Harris said they had been living in the car for about three days.

Police said the car was full of belongings and garbage that included a container of spoiled milk and days-old chicken bones.

One of the children had second-degree burns from a sunburn, and paramedics said the injuries had not been treated, according to police. The child was taken to a hospital.

Department of Children and Families spokesperson Carrie Hoepner said DCF did not feel comfortable placing the children with relatives and they are now in DCF custody. An emergency custody hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning

An investigation is ongoing.
