Earth Changes
The sun has arrived two days early in Greenland according to KNR Radio. It usually rises on January 13th but for some reason rose on 1/11/11 this year.
Inhabitants from the area appeared worried when witnessing the strange phenomenon. "The sun is not supposed to be here until January 13th, something isn't right" a 74 year old local reported to KBR radio. [1]
Some scientist believe the melting of ice sheets is what caused the phenomenon. "The constellation of the stars has not changed and if it did the data of Earth's axis and rotation would be monitored minute by minute all over the world," said Wolfgang Lenhardt, head of the geophysics department at the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG).
Thomas Posch from the Institute of Astronomy at the University of Vienna suggested the observation was due to a change in the local horizon and was accelerated by melting ice sheets. Lenhardt also stated it could be an atmospheric phenomenon.
One thing is certain, the event continues to baffle scientists who have struggled to come up with an explanation.
In my eyes, we simply don't know enough about this story yet. Until more information is available, I think it's safe to say all explanations should be considered theories.
Let's end this article by laying out a list of theories.
1. Is it melting ice sheets being caused by global waming?
2. Does it have something to do with 2012 and the earths magnetic field?
3. Is it connected to the recent "mass bird death" phenomenom?
4. Was the sun just reflecting off the ice and water?

It can only be manmade global warming. Every scientist worth his salt, knows that global warming is man made and the cause of everything, which is why it is such a wonderful religion...uuppps typo, I mean scientific theory. One of the beauties of this theory is that it has revolutionised science and made the slow empirical process of observation and testing abundant. All that is needed is a computer, a scientific model and last but not least...BELIEF.
Really?
BTW: Aeneas - global warming, I thought we've already acknowledged that it's happening on rest of the planets as well, can't be due to human influence then.
The theories I've discussed with my brother:
1. Greenland elevated - but that should have been noticed by altimeters at least.
2. Sun has growth in size - but then should we not notice early sunrises everyday?
And if it's due to ice melting - if that amount have melted only within last 12 months than I'm scared to think of the pace of the events to come.
Share your thoughts please, we're confused!
the lower atmosphere is cooling to the extent that contrails are now being made lower in the atmosphere? Maybe that has something to do with the atmosphere reflecting the sun's light sooner? Or could it have something to do with there being a lot more particles in the atmosphere because of more comet, or other, dust being picked up in our atmosphere and it is reflecting the light inwards rather than outwards?
I like the one with the atmosphere - an expert opinion on that option is needed.
but here we have a planetary deviation phenomenon 48 hours ahead of time which suggests the rather obvious. Since the sun due to mass can't easily be moved from its position in the solar system, I mean the events would be catastrophic for all the planets, it's the other way round. Earth has moved just a notch from its path in relation to the sun. I don't think it's an atmospheric phenomenon either. Earth follows an elliptical course around the Sun. For some reason this path seems to have changed just enough to cause the 2 day deviation. Fyi gravitational forces keep the planets in their relative positions between them. But gravitational forces are the strongest in the universe. It requires a tremendous amount of energy to change say Earth's position even in relation to the Sun. So I don't think there can be an easy answer as to what caused that phenomenon. Usually in such cases it's a combination of factors and I'm certainly not the expert to provide the answer.
OMG! Think it through. If Earth or the Sun shifted somehow causing the perception of light reaching our eye sooner than we expected, it would happen to ALL of us at the same time! The effects would be global.
AH! Wait! Greenland moved! The tectonic plate shifted several degrees East! LOL.
Break it down! The components of a sunrise (anywhere on any planet): a star, an orbiting planet. If neither of these two objects have changed path (which we would notice immediately as observers on the planet), then it must be the observation that has caused the anomaly.
Observation: light (energy packets - photons), travels to the observer's eye (or lens or other light/energy recording device). Something along this path from the sun to our observation point, is different than what we expect.
These things are figure-out-able.
speechless!
