A 66-year-old Sydney man who died after a fight over water use will be farewelled by his many family and friends this week.

Ken Proctor suffered a massive heart attack on Wednesday last week after he was allegedly punched in the head by a stranger, and kicked as he lay on the ground. He died a short time later in hospital.

Police allege the attack occurred as Mr Proctor watered the garden of his Sylvania home, in Sydney's south, and began as an argument about water use.

Mr Proctor was legally watering his garden, in compliance with Sydney's water restrictions, at the time of the attack on October 31.

Todd Munter, 36, also of Sylvania, has been charged with murder and remains in custody.

A funeral service will be held for Mr Proctor at noon (AEDT) on Wednesday in the South Chapel of Woronora Crematorium.

His widow Lyn Proctor is expecting a large turnout.

She said: "Ken had a lot of family and friends so there's going to be quite a lot of people there."
