Cellular memory: Why pain may persist after your injury has healed

chronic pain
A new study from King's College London offers clues as to why chronic pain can persist, even when the injury that caused it has gone. Although still in its infancy, this research could explain how small and seemingly innocuous injuries leave molecular 'footprints' which add up to more lasting damage, and ultimately chronic pain.

All of us are likely to know someone who suffers from persistent pain -- it is a very common condition, which can be caused by sports injuries, various diseases and the process of ageing. Treatment options are limited and doctors are often unable to offer anything more than partial relief with painkillers, leaving their patients resigned to suffering.

While chronic pain can have many different causes, the outcome is often the same: an overly sensitive nervous system which responds much more than it normally would. However, a question still remains as to why the nervous system should remain in this sensitive state over long periods of time, especially in instances where the underlying injury or disease has gone.

Researchers from King's sought to answer this question by examining immune cells in the nervous system of mice, which are known to be important for the generation of persistent pain.

In the study, published today in Cell Reports, they found that nerve damage changes epigenetic marks on some of the genes in these immune cells. Epigenetics is the process that determines which gene is expressed and where. Some epigenetic signals have direct functional consequences, while others are just primers: flags that indicate a potential to act or be modified.

Comment: The human genome is astonishingly complex and dynamic, with genes constantly turning on or off, depending on what biochemical signals they receive from the body. When genes are turned on, they express proteins that prompt physiological responses elsewhere in the body. Epigenetic modifiers have the ability to alter gene activity simply by blocking or not blocking the genetic code as it's being copied, meaning that our genes are not set in stone. The expression of specific genes is not just determined by our DNA, but also by our lifestyle and thus exercise, improving diet and decreasing stress can help regulate our genetic expression.

Can the power of our minds help us heal ourselves?

Healing mind power
© Julian Kumar/Godong/panos
BANG! You're startled by a loud noise. Instantly you're fully alert and looking round for danger, heart racing. Or you see something erotic, and your body optimistically readies itself for intercourse. These simple observations are incontrovertible proof that our state of mind has a powerful effect on our bodies - a basic truth that we have ignored for too long, says science writer Jo Marchant.

Her book on this began as an article that appeared in New Scientist in August 2011. Marchant, a former colleague, had emailed me a few months earlier. Would I be interested in running a story about how our minds influence our health, and how we can harness these effects to help ourselves. "These areas have always been seen as a bit too close to pseudoscience," she wrote, "but studies are now starting to show clear physical effects and pin down mechanisms." It was one of those rare proposals that pretty much had me at hello.

Comment: Why hospitals need to recognize the science of healing thoughts
The interaction of our thoughts with the physical material world is of huge interest today, garnering increasing attention by academics around the world. Despite a wealth of scientific data showing that one can influence the other, and even more evidence proving that certain emotional states can lead to chronic illness, many who work in mainstream medicine remain entirely ignorant of these concepts.

Perhaps this is why more and more people are gravitating towards alternative forms of medicine. As Garth Cook from Scientific American points out:
A growing body of scientific research suggests that our mind can play an important role in healing our body — or in staying healthy in the first place. . .There are now several lines of research suggesting that our mental perception of the world constantly informs and guides our immune system in a way that makes us better able to respond to future threats. That was a sort of 'aha' moment for me — where the idea of an entwined mind and body suddenly made more scientific sense than an ephemeral consciousness that's somehow separated from our physical selves.

The eradication of natural alternatives - Big Pharma wants to eliminate the competition

herbal medicine
Everyone has the simple desire to find happiness within themselves — to find a state of well-being that can be carried throughout their lives. Sara is no different. Sara is a teacher who struggles with mental conditions for which she has been prescribed a bevy of medications. Over the years she has struggled, as most in her situation have, with addiction and the unbearable side-effects of her FDA-approved "safe" medications. Her absolute passion in this life is for the children whom she molds and develops with an unrivaled dedication. As she began to grapple further with the unexpected effects and growing addiction to her medications, she began to see it affecting her ability to be present in her responsibilities, while also stealing her creativity that she so greatly treasured. So when she discovered kratom, which successfully replaced not one, but all of her medications, with zero side-effects, she thanked God for providing this miracle and natural alternative.

Comment: True healing is the one thing Big Pharma cannot deliver! Is it any surprise that they want to eliminate all competition? Why 'Alternative Medicine' is a dirty word to Big Pharma & the Medical Mafia
Natural alternatives are frowned upon in the modern age, and those who seek them out are openly ridiculed. If you're a practitioner of alternative therapies, that ridicule can take on a life of its own.

It's no secret that the allopathic medical community has long scoffed at the ideas and methods of holistic and alternative medicine practitioners. While shouting publicly about protecting the health of society, they whisper in secret about protecting a health-care monopoly that comes with huge payoffs and kickbacks.

Modern medicine, some physicians, and big pharmaceutical companies don't want us reverting to the old ways for fear of losing the almighty profit prescription and over-the-counter drugs have provided...

Does this seem extreme to you?

Endurance athletes have been told for decades that carb loading is necessary to perform at the top. To suggest otherwise has long been regarded as heresy — or at the very least as foolish.

But, quietly, many athletes got wind of a new type of diet — a high fat, low net carbs (total carbs minus fiber) diet — that was fueling the fittest among them. Many top athletes quickly became converts, trading bowls of pasta and oatmeal for eggs and avocados.

As their performance improved, along with their health, most athletes kept quiet, following their seemingly sacrilegious diet in the closet.

Some didn't tell because they wanted to avoid potential backlash, but many others wanted to keep their newfound diet a secret — why tip off competitors that eating a high-fat, low-net-carbs diet was giving them a major competitive edge?

In the documentary film "Cereal Killers 2", you can watch world-class triathlete Sami Inkinen's story firsthand. Once teetering on the edge of diabetes, Inkinen learned that by changing his diet he could switch from burning sugar to burning fat as fuel, and therein lay the key to reaching new performance heights.

Censored again! Free-speech radio show Guns & Butter won't air discussion on vaccinations

Guns and butter
Guns and Butter was again censored by the staff at KPFA. On Wednesday, May 18, 2016, we had planned to go on live for the current KPFA Fund Drive and offer Dissolving Illusions: Vaccination Past and Present by Dr. Suzanne Humphries and Roman Bystrianyk. However, on Tuesday we were notified by the Program Director at KPFA, Laura Prives, that our show would not air and instead be preempted.

Comment: KPFA has censored discussion on the controversial topic of vaccinations before: More lines drawn: Radio host and guest Gary Null censored by 'progressive' radio station over vaccines
Gary Null has been a popular, longtime radio host with the longest running health talk show which airs on Progressive Radio Network. He has authored and directed dozens upon dozens of books and documentaries.

A few weeks ago, he was asked as an honored guest on Bonnie Faulkner's show, Guns and Butter which talks about the politics of economics and airs on Pacifica KPFA public radio stations. In the spirit of truth, Bonnie wanted listeners to hear the other side of the vaccine talk, not the "case closed" version. What you're not being told about vaccines. And specifically SB277, the California bill to mandate vaccines for virtually all Californian school children. Who better to ask then Null, an alternative health expert, medical activist and Pacifica veteran?

When it came time to air, however, they were told they weren't allowed - or rather, they were outright censored and the show was cut - the first time for Guns and Butter in over 11 years. But Bonnie could not let this breach of truth rest...

Nebraska farmers diagnosed with cancer are suing Monsanto over glyphosate

A group of Nebraska farmers diagnosed with cancer is suing Monsanto, maker of agricultural chemicals and GMO seed. The farmers allege that glyphosate, the popular Monsanto herbicide, caused them to develop cancer and that the company intentionally misled the public about the dangers of the world's most widely used herbicide.

The lawsuit was filed last Wednesday in federal court in Lincoln, Nebraska. The farmers are seeking punitive damages, alleging defective design, failure to warn, negligence and breach of warranty.

Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Monsanto's Roundup brand herbicide, which is advertised as being able to kill almost any weed. However, the company claims it is safe to use on food. Monsanto's Roundup Ready GMO seeds are designed to resist the chemicals so the plants can still grow after being sprayed.

The lawsuit also claims that Monsanto "concealed or systematically sought to discredit" research showing links between glyphosate and cancer and continues to do so.

Comment: Monsanto knew all along! Sealed documents reveal the truth behind Roundup's toxicological dangers

There is now an enormous cache of evidence on both scientific and legal grounds that Monsanto in fact conducted numerous studies on glyphosate's toxicity and health risks and intentionally sealed this research from independent and public review and scrutiny. Anthony Samsel, an independent research scientist was able to procure scientific documents covering Monsanto's complete glyphosate research. His review of the documents with his co-investigator Dr. Stephanie Seneff at MIT concluded that Monsanto's claims about glyphosate's safety are patently false. The company has known for almost four decades that glyphosate is responsible for a large variety of cancers and organ failures.

"Monsanto championed falsified data and has attacked legitimate studies that revealed Roundup's dangers. Monsanto led a campaign of misinformation to convince government agencies, farmers and the general population that Roundup is safe. Its continuing denial extends to the date of this Complaint," the lawsuit states.

Glyphosate was designated as a probable cause of cancer in March 2015 by the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer. The report noted glyphosate is most frequently associated with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and other hematopoietic cancers, including multiple myelomas, lymphocytic lymphoma, and B-cell lymphoma.

Your latitude may affect your blood pressure

The distance people live from the equator may influence their blood pressure, a new study suggests.

Researchers found that people in Chile who lived at greater distances from the equator had higher average blood-pressure levels compared with people who lived closer to 0 degrees latitude.

The study also found that the 37 percent of people in the country's southern latitudes (farther from the equator) had blood pressure high enough to diagnose the individuals with hypertension, whereas only 29 percent of those in the northern latitudes had hypertension. The findings were published online May 5 in the American Journal of Epidemiology.

Comment: It certainly could be the amount of available daylight as the factor here, as low levels of vitamin D have been linked to high blood pressure. However, if you're suffering from hypertension and relocating isn't an option for you, there are other things you can try:

Less is more: Swedish experiment finds 6-hour working day 'boosts productivity and makes people happier'

stockholm
Nurses who worked six-hour days were found to be 20 per cent happier and had more energy

A shorter work day increases productivity and makes people happier, research has found.

The Svartedalens retirement home in Gothenburg, Sweden's second largest city, conducted an experiment to determine whether cutting hours improved patient care and boosted employees' morale.

Nurses who worked six-hour days for the past year were found to be 20 per cent happier and had more energy at work and in their spare time.

The 68 nurses also took half as much sick time as those in the control group and were able to do 64 per cent more activities with elderly residents.

They were also 2.8 times less likely to take any time off work in a two-week period, Bengt Lorentzon, a researcher on the project, told Bloomberg.

Comment: This would indeed be the direction both business owners/managers and workers would go in... if it were not for the political factor: a population that isn't distracted/occupied/stressed out for as much of the time as possible is a population that has more time to pay attention to what its criminal class gets up to.

Genetic switch turned on during fasting helps stop inflammation

molecule image
© Salk InstituteSalk researchers uncover a fasting molecule, Crtc, which enhances immunity. The gastrointestinal tract of flies lacking Crtc, which is turned on during fasting (right panel), expresses more immune-related molecules compared with those of normal flies (left panel). These signs of inflammation mean that the gut barrier is compromised and more permeable to bacteria.
A molecular pathway that is activated in the brain during fasting helps halt the spread of intestinal bacteria into the bloodstream, according to a new study by a team of researchers at the Salk Institute.

The study, published the week of May 16, 2016 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, shows a molecular pathway by which the brain communicates with the gastrointestinal (GI) tract to prevent unnecessary activation of the immune system during fasting by strengthening the barrier against gut microbes. The discovery of this brain-gut signal in fruit flies, which has many parallels to humans, could eventually inform the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases in people.

In addition to its role in promoting the absorption of nutrients from food, the GI tract is host to a panoply of bacteria. These microbes actually help in the digestive process by producing chemicals that break down complex fats and carbohydrates.

Vaccines that permanently alter DNA are on the horizon

vaccines alter DNA
Why is the government so maniacal about injecting vaccines?

Consider this article in light of the accelerating push to mandate and enforce vaccination across the planet.

The reference is the New York Times, 3/15/15, "Protection Without a Vaccine." It describes the frontier of research. Here are key quotes that illustrate the use of synthetic genes to "protect against disease," while changing the genetic makeup of humans. This is not science fiction:
"By delivering synthetic genes into the muscles of the [experimental] monkeys, the scientists are essentially re-engineering the animals to resist disease."

"'The sky's the limit,' said Michael Farzan, an immunologist at Scripps and lead author of the new study."
"The first human trial based on this strategy — called immunoprophylaxis by gene transfer, or I.G.T. — is underway, and several new ones are planned."

"I.G.T. is altogether different from traditional vaccination. It is instead a form of gene therapy. Scientists isolate the genes that produce powerful antibodies against certain diseases and then synthesize artificial versions. The genes are placed into viruses and injected into human tissue, usually muscle."

Comment: Sound like science fiction? Considering the following article which was published back in 2012: Hang onto your DNA - the 1% wants that, too
They want to take over your DNA.

They can do this with the new DNA vaccines. They are injecting genetically engineered PATENTED material into people. That means not only that they are altering people's very code of life (for the first time in all of existence, forcing their synthetic genetically engineered material into the person's DNA), but after doing so they can make commercial patent claims on what is inside people's bodies. This is just what Monsanto is doing to farmers after it contaminates their organic fields. They could make claims over blood, organs, whatever, because DNA with their patented intellectual property is in it all.

And this is the intent.

Never mind they didn't let anyone know about this. Never mind these vaccines are mandated to children and college students, and they are trying to do so now with nurses as a requirement for their job.

Never mind this is highly deceptive commercial theft of a person's organic - perfect - DNA.

This is mandated theft.
