Lion's Mane mushroom: Unparalleled benefits for your brain & nervous system

brain cells
Lion's Mane is nature's gift to your nervous system! It's the only mushroom possessing not one but TWO potent nerve growth factors, showing potential benefits for Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, mild cognitive impairment, multiple sclerosis, leg cramps, anxiety and more.

What if there were one natural treatment that could restore brain function, regrow damaged nerves and reverse the progression of multiple sclerosis? There may be! Lion's mane mushroom has been used medicinally in Asia for centuries, but for some reason it's one of the best-kept secrets in the West.

When 'everything in moderation' isn't

what is dietary moderation forks food
We've heard it a million times: "Eat a well-balanced diet with everything in moderation." After all these decades of clear failure, it's a hazy cliché still delivered by physicians, dietitians and nutritional "experts" with earnest assurance. The same goes for exercise and stress. Moderate amounts of stress are okay, moderate cardiovascular work is good, etc. We accept the concept of moderation so readily, I think, because it sounds so rational and simple. If we follow common sense, moderation suggests, we'll be fine. But if it were that easy, most people would be healthy—and statistics on the rising rates of obesity and chronic illness tell us otherwise. So what's the problem?

Comment: "All things in moderation" is often used when people don't want to get confused by thinking and instead prefer to do whatever they feel like while supporting their subjective preferences. Yet clearly such an approach is completely irrational; for example, what's a 'moderate' amount of mercury or arsenic to consume? If people knew how prevalent mercury is in processed foods and what it can do to their health and well-being, they might change their opinion on what a 'moderate' amount of those foods is--to none.

Something critical is missing in the picture. Unfortunately, the moderation mantra—as we tend to invoke it—is too often a comforting abstraction we use to delude ourselves and to justify engaging in the same sabotaging behaviors again and again. After all, moderation as a blurry standard conveniently doesn't exactly ask us to change anything specific or question what we've come to accept as normal lifestyle patterns. It's limited by our own subjective interpretation. So to that old mantra, I'd like to make an additional recommendation.

What if we could take the low-pressured positivity of this concept and reframe it within specific, personalized, meaningful bounds?

In short, what would it mean for our health goals if we truly took moderation in hand and clarified it for our own individual use?

Comment: When one gathers Knowledge on how the body works and how negatively some things impact it, one's sense of "moderation" may change. After all: knowledge protects, ignorance endangers.

Proton Pump Inhibitors: So dangerous that prescriptions border on being criminal

proton pump inhibitors trading heartburn heart attack
Proton pump inhibitors rank among the top 10 prescribed classes of drugs and are commonly used to treat acid reflux, indigestion, and peptic ulcers. Although generally assumed to be safe, recent studies have shown that they have numerous side effects, from an altered gut environment and impaired nutrient absorption to an increased risk for cardiovascular events, kidney disease, and dementia.

PPIs have become one of the most commonly prescribed classes of drugs in the industrialized world, despite increasingly frequent warnings by researchers about potential risks and complications.

A 2010 study found that of 946 patients receiving PPI therapy in a hospital setting, only 35 percent were prescribed PPIs for an appropriate upper GI diagnosis (1). In 2014, Americans filled more than 170 million prescriptions for acid blockers, falling only behind statins in total cost expenditure worldwide (2). PPIs are the most common of the acid blockers. They go by a variety of names but typically end in the suffix "-prazole" (omeprazole, pantoprazole, esomeprazole, etc.).

The purpose of this article is to provide an update to these earlier articles on heartburn and antacids, focusing on a number of scientific studies published in just the last few years. If you haven't already, be sure to check out these previous blog posts.

Comment: Stomach acid provides a number of critical functions in the human body, including absorbing essential nutrients and serving as a defense against pathogens, so inhibiting stomach acid is guaranteed to produce problems in the long run. Generally speaking, acid reflux/GERD is primarily the result of eating harmful foods (junk food, wheat, dairy, soy), not enough stomach acid, and/or a poorly functioning liver or gallbladder. There can be other causes, however removing harmful foods (best done by switching to a low carb paleo diet) and ensuring that you have enough stomach acid (by taking an HCL supplement or apple cider vinegar) as well as a functioning liver tends to resolve acid reflux for most people.

Did you inherit trauma through the DNA inherited from your parents and grandparents? Did their view of the world influence your life before you were even born? Unresolved childhood trauma has been implicated in cancer, heart disease and other health problems. Are we victims of our genes or does the environment count in more ways than we realize?

Today on the Health and Wellness show we discussed the topic of Intergenerational Trauma, genes, epigenetics and stress. (Note: due to some technical problems, the audio cut in and out at numerous times throughout the show.)

A new way of looking at allergies: Histamine intolerance

histamine intolerance
© low-histamine.com
Do you have allergies? Sneezing, wheezing, burning eyes, or flushing, itchy skin with hives? Do certain foods trigger stomach cramps or diarrhea? Or do you suffer from frequent headaches or migraines, bouts of nausea, severe menstrual cramps, or panic attacks characterized by a racing heart?

You've dutifully tried allergy shots—sometimes for years!—to no avail. Antihistamines work for you, but only partially. Food allergy tests keep coming up negative. There seem to be no clear dietary precipitants—your food reactions seem to be all over the map. But your doctor insists your allergy blood tests and skin tests don't come up positive for foods. Still, you try popular gluten-free, dairy-free or candida diets, but they only make minor dents in your symptoms.

Antibiotics are failing & big pharma doesn't care

antibiotics
This is a bigger problem than most people think.

Antibiotic resistance happens when a bacteria evolves to a point that it becomes fully resistant to modern medicine, completely disregarding the presence of an antibiotic and just continues to multiply anyway.

And in case you're wondering, that is exactly what we are dealing with right now, with our antibiotics losing its ability to control and kill bacterial growth.

Magnesium supplementation helps deal with stress, violent tendencies & depression

magnesium
In February of 2006 the New York Times[1] reported that, "While violent crime has been at historic lows nationwide and in cities like New York, Miami and Los Angeles, it is rising sharply in many other places across the country. And while such crime in the recent past was characterized by battles over gangs and drug turf, the police say the current rise in homicides has been set off by something more bewildering: petty disputes that hardly seem the stuff of fistfights, much less gunfire or stabbings. Suspects tell the police they killed someone who "disrespected" them or a family member, or someone who was "mean mugging" them, which the police loosely translate as giving a dirty look."

"Police Chief Nannette H. Hegerty of Milwaukee calls it "the rage thing," the Times reported, "We're seeing a very angry population, and they don't go to fists anymore, they go right to guns," she said. "When we ask, 'Why did you shoot this guy?' it's, 'He bumped into me,' 'He looked at my girl the wrong way,' "said Police Commissioner Sylvester M. Johnson of Philadelphia. "It's not like they're riding around doing drive-by shootings. It's arguments — stupid arguments over stupid things." While arguments have always made up a large number of homicides, the police say the trigger point now comes faster. In robberies, Milwaukee's Chief Hegerty said, "Even after the person gives up, the guy with the gun shoots him anyway. We didn't have as much of that before."

Study: Probiotics can 'potentially' cure autism-like disorders

research
© reuters
Texas researchers have managed to reverse autism-like neurological disorders in mice by adding just a single gut bacteria to their diet, but they still don't know if human brains can be helped in the same way.

Scientists from the Baylor University College of Medicine in Texas conducted research to test the premise that, for human and non-human primates, the offspring of obese mothers have a higher risk of developing neurodevelopmental disorders, such as autism.

To investigate the link between maternal obesity and behavioral deficits, the researchers tested 60 female mice separated into two groups. For eight weeks, some mice were fed a high-fat diet, while the others received just a regular diet. They were then paired with male mice that had been on a regular diet all of their lives, to produce offspring.

Comment: Gut Health and the Autism Epidemic
According to Dr. Campbell-McBride, as a population we are degrading healthy gut flora more and more every generation. Mothers who have been on the Pill or antibiotics or a poor diet for long periods develop abnormal gut flora and pass it on to their children. This, she believes, has led to an epidemic of eczema and autism, noting that 20 years ago the autism rate was 1 in 10,000 children and today is 1 in 88.

When children are born with their mothers' unhealthy gut, they have immune compromised systems, develop ear and chest infections and are treated with antibiotics. All this creates more damage to their systems. As the gut wall suffers more damage, it becomes "leaky" and allows undigested food to enter the blood stream resulting in more prevalent food allergies, such as to peanuts.

As their systems become more and more damaged, these immune compromised children are subjected to multiple vaccines designed for children with healthy immunity. But with impaired immune systems, she contends, these children suffer mental and developmental disabilities.
Another 'theory' not considered in the study: Rise in Autism rates go hand-in-hand with increased vaccinations

Doctors pushing vaccines receive 'Merck Vaccination Service Awards'

Where does your doctor's allegiance lie? Does your healthcare professional listen to your needs and wants as a parent or are they nothing more than affiliate distributors for pharmaceutical companies? It was reported by independent journalist recently that some doctors offices are now demanding their patients sign an immunization contract. What's an immunization contract you ask? The contract—created outside of law and denying informed consent—requires prospective patients to agree, by signature, to allow 25 vaccines to be injected into their child over a series of visits. Also uncovered in the same investigation, doctors can receive up to $225 per service achieved in the insurance provider category of "childhood immunization [combo 2]".

Flu propaganda, promotion and hype

Flu shot

"Repeat a lie often enough and people believe it. We all know that. But there are millions of people out there who think a public-health agency like the CDC, a scientific body, would never engage in such tactics. Those millions of people would be wrong. There is a rule: the most holy, sacred, revered, uncontestable organization hides the biggest secrets. It's a good rule to keep in mind. Major media don't apply it. But you can." (The Underground, Jon Rappoport)

There are many propaganda operations surrounding the flu. Here I just want to boil down a few boggling facts.

Dr. Peter Doshi, writing in the online BMJ (British Medical Journal), reveals one monstrosity.

As Doshi states, every year, hundreds of thousands of respiratory samples are taken from flu patients in the US and tested in labs. Here is the kicker: only a small percentage of these samples show the presence of a flu virus.
