France was left counting the cost after violent storms caused damage across the country at the weekend and on Monday more weather warnings were issued for the north of the country.

The storms affected large swathes of the country not least several wine-growing regions where vineyard owners saw their crops destroyed by hail stones.

And it wasn't over on Monday with 22 départements across the country given an Orange alert weather warning due to the threat of heavy rain and flooding.

Northern France, the Paris region and parts of central France including Burgundy were all set to be affected (see map below).

The warnings will remain in place until Tuesday morning due to the forecast of heavy rain throughout the day.

Weather stations in Sydney, Australia record coldest May morning in 20 years

Autumn figures are likely to be warmest on record, but Sydneysiders wake up to frosty morning

Several sites in Sydney have experienced their coldest May morning in 20 years, even as the city looks set to record its warmest autumn.

Less than two weeks after well above average temperatures were recorded across the eastern states, Sydneysiders awoke to record cold weather and frost on Monday.

Richmond airport had its coldest morning since 1987 at -2.1C, the coldest morning for May on record in 23 years of data. The previous was -1.4C in May 2011.

A low of 7.3C was recorded at the Sydney weather station on Observatory Hill just after 7am, making it the coldest May morning in five years. (7.3C was also recorded there in 2011.)

Penrith residents awoke to 2C, an unprecedented low for May in 22 years of data, while Horsley Park set a new 20-year record with 1C at 6.55am.

The Bureau of Meteorology's duty forecaster, Rob Taggart, said a cold front had passed over New South Wales, bringing with its drier air mass.

Magnitude 5.2 earthquake hits Norseman, Western Australia; biggest quake in six years

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 hit beneath Norseman in Western Australia (above) on Sunday night

Quake that shakes WA goldfields on Saturday and Sunday caused by tectonic plate stress

An earthquake that shook Western Australia's goldfields overnight had the strength of an "atomic bomb" blasting underground.

Three earthquakes hit near Norseman, including a magnitude 5.2 tremor reportedly felt as far away as Perth.

The first was a 4.9 magnitude quake about 6km under the surface hitting about 11.30pm local time, then the 5.2 was about an hour later and the last was a 3.2 magnitude tremor about 1.44am on Sunday.

Geoscience Australia senior seismologist Dan Jaksa said it was the largest event in WA since the magnitude five earthquake in Kalgoorlie in April 2010, which left several buildings badly damaged.

He said the quakes were caused by tectonic stress due to Australia's continental plate moving about seven centimetres a year and the one that hit shortly after midnight was the equivalent to an atomic bomb going off.

"When we see a nuclear test occur, they're generally a magnitude five," Jaksa said.

Geoscience Australia asks the public to fill out surveys on their website whenever they feel tremors.

Jaksa said so far about 100 surveys had been filled since midnight, including reports of the quakes being felt in Perth and Esperance, hundreds of kilometres away.

Floods have lashed southern Germany, killing at least four people and causing an underground carpark to collapse.

The town of Schwäbisch Gmünd was the worst hit, with a volunteer firefighter drowning while trying to rescue a flood victim, Deutsche Welle reports.

Two people died after a carpark filled with water and caved in. Scores of cars were submerged, while the strength of the water washed others down flooded streets.

Hundreds of people have been evacuated across the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, which borders France and Switzerland.

The flood waters reportedly rose four metres within just minutes. It is not yet known how much rain has fallen across Baden-Wuerttemberg.

Supercell thunderstorm towers nearly 70,000 feet, about twice the cruising altitude of commercial planes near Nueva Rosita, Mexico

A severe thunderstorm on the Mexican side of the Texas Big Bend grew to an estimated height of 68,000 feet on Monday evening, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in San Antonio, Texas.

This is about twice the height of the typical cruising altitude of a large commercial jetliner, which is generally above 30,000 feet. For reference, the maximum cruising altitude of a Boeing 737-800 aircraft is 41,000 feet, according to airliners.net. The tops of this storm also reached a height of more than twice that of the summit of Mount Everest (29,029 feet).

According to weather.com meteorologist Tom Moore, who has been watching storms on satellite more than 30 years, "The supercell towered as high as I've seen in years."

A seemingly healthy two-headed baby goat suffered a gruesome death after fate cruelly intervened just days after it had been born on a farm in Kazakhstan.

The video of the kid - shot in remote village Asyk-Ata - shows it has two distinct heads joined along the skull and appears to be healthy in every other way.

But it died just days later after its mother trampled it to death 'out of fear', despite previously allowing it to feed from her

Farmer Galymzhan Uteuliev explained: "I was shocked when I saw it for the first time.

"I'd never seen anything like this before.

Have you noticed that our planet has begun to shake, rattle and roll? Yesterday, May 26, 2016 3 volcanic eruptions were captured on video around the world. Moreover, 2 strong earthquakes rattled the Earth on May 28, 2016. Although officials qualify these geological events as normal, there is something big coming toward us!

Over the past few days we have seen major volcanic eruptions and each day new volcanoes are showing increase eruptive activity or explosions. After the strong eruptions at Etna, Turrialba and Sinabung last week, the Kilauea volcano, the Reventador volcano and le Piton de la Fournaise started started spewing lava on May 26, 2016 as shown in the following videos:

Lightning strikes children in Paris and Germany, over 40 injured; bolt kills man in Poland

Lightning strike
Three children and an adult were fighting for their lives on Saturday after they were among 11 people struck by lightning during a birthday party in a Paris park.

Another child and an adult were seriously injured, but their lives were not in danger. Five others — four children and an adult — were slightly injured.

In a second freak incident - occurring at around the same time - 35 people were injured by a lightning bolt during a football match in Germany. The lightning struck at the end of a children's match in the town of Hoppstaedten.

In southern Poland a man in his forties was killed when he was struck by lightning as he descended the Babia Gora mountain, local media said.

The referee, who was hit directly, was rushed to hospital by helicopter. Two other adults also suffered serious injuries. Thirty children aged between nine and 11 were mildly injured and taken to hospital for tests, along with two more adults.
