Man killed by bear in Mizoram, India

A 55-year-old man was attacked and mauled to death by a bear in the jungle near the Mizoram-Myanmar border at Kawlbem village in Champhai district on Monday, police said.

A police report said Thangchhuana, a Grade IV employee at the Government High School in Kawlbem village, was attacked by the bear which ran away after he shot at it with a gun. The bear also died of bullet injury.

Hearing the gunshot, Thangchhuana's friend came to his rescue and found him lying on the ground with serious injuries.

Thangchhuana succumbed to his injuries while he was being taken to his village.

When the villagers went back to look for his gun, they found the bear lying dead a few metres away.

Sinkholes scare local residents in Andhra's Kadapa district, India

Following heavy rainfall in Andhra Pradesh recently, many sinkholes have been forming in the Rayalaseema region, mainly in Kadapa district.

According to Prabhakar Reddy, the sarpanch of Buggalapalle village in Chintakommadinne mandal, sinkholes have been forming in the area for the past few years.

"On Monday, two sinkholes formed near Buggamaleswara temple in our village. Last year, we saw nearly 20 sink holes form in the span of two week in our, as well as surrounding villages," he said.

Prabhakar also claimed the in the past three years, 250 sinkholes have been found in the villages surrounding the Buggavagu project. Buggavagu is a minor irrigation project which caters to 10 villages including Buggalapalle and Gudavandlapalle.

"We have informed the officials and they said the sinkholes are being formed due to the loosening of the soil," he stated.

A chef was shocked to see a frog with extra limbs in his kitchen in northeast China.

Video footage shows an assistant showing the mutant frog with three extra legs growing on the right side of its body.

The green amphibian can be seen moving about on the chopping board.

The video was filmed in Jinzhou, Liaoning Province on October 15.

It's unclear what the frog's species is, however, it was found by a chef in a restaurant's kitchen.

2017 Hurricane season not over yet: Tropical Storm Philippe may form in the Caribbean

The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season may not be over yet.

An area of showers and thunderstorms now spinning in the western Caribbean has a 50% chance of developing into Tropical Storm Philippe by the weekend, the National Hurricane Center said.

The disturbance is likely to drift across the northwestern Caribbean into Friday, then across the Florida Straits and part of South Florida on Saturday, according to AccuWeather meteorologist Dan Kottlowski.

On Sunday, it's likely to take a path parallel to the Atlantic coast of the U.S., he added.

The dog that horrifically mauled its owner to death in Canberra early on Wednesday morning was known to the authorities and had attacked before, it has been revealed.

Tania Klemke was reportedly killed by her dog, while trying to save a male visitor the animal was attacking, around 4am in the suburb of Watson in the city's north.

Police were forced to shoot and kill the dog after it attacked them when they were working to save the life of the woman aged in her 40s.

A man who was visiting the house is being treated in hospital for bite wounds sustained in the rampage.


ACT City Services Minister, Meeghan Fitzharris, told the ABC the dog was known to the Territory Government.

"On one previous occasion (Domestic Animal Services) did attend that household at the request of ACT police," Ms Fitzharris said.

The previous attack reportedly happened in August.

Entire island of Maui loses power as severe storms slam Hawaii

Severe storms with damaging winds and heavy rainfall struck Hawaii early Tuesday morning from a storm that formed north of the islands.

The Maui Police Department tweeted early Tuesday that there was an island-wide power outage from the storms and that Maui Electric was working to restore power. Maui has a population of about 150,000.

A teenage girl suffered a leg injury when a tree fell on a bus stop along Ala Moana Boulevard late Wednesday night, according to KHON.

Flash flooding has also been reported from heavy downpours. The Maui Police Department said Haleakala Highway was closed by flooding at the intersection of Hana Highway early Tuesday.

More stormy weather is expected to affect Hawaii through the day on Tuesday, particularly in Maui and the Big Island. That National Weather Service has posted a flash flood watch through Tuesday afternoon.

The Carolinas are picking up the pieces after heavy rain, tornadoes, damaging winds, and flash flooding left a path of destruction Monday.

Thousands woke up Tuesday across our viewing area with no power. Duke Energy continued to lower the numbers throughout the day, however, they remained high. According to the North Carolina Emergency Management, as of 9:30 a.m. there were about 66,000 homes and businesses without power statewide.

Comment: The National Weather Service confirmed that two EF-2 tornadoes touched down in Cherokee County and Spartanburg County in South Carolina on Tuesday.

Strong winds and cold air brought snow to many alpine areas in Switzerland on Sunday and Monday, closing many alpine passes.

Driven by north-westerly winds, polar air hit Switzerland on the weekend, with snow falling above 1,200m, said MeteoSuisse.

On Monday up to 50cms of snow fell in places, with the snow line dropping from 2,500m on Saturday to around 1,000m on Monday morning.

Snowfall was at its deepest in the east of the country, said MeteoNews.

The snow caused many alpine passes to close on Monday.
