Evergreen College sanctions 80 snowflake students and issues a guide on how to deal with free speech like an adult

evergreen college
Evergreen State College doled out punishments to 80 students they say were involved in an incident last spring that led to a schoolwide shutdown and a million dollar legal settlement.

They've also issued a handbook to students explaining, in great detail, how to handle the concept of "free speech" and what students should do if they encounter an opposing viewpoint (hint: it's not riot until the school shuts down and harass a professor and his wife out of their jobs).

Evergreen is facing both a budget and an enrollment crisis since students attacked Professor Bret Weinstein last May, alleging that he was "racist" for choosing not to participate in an event designed to show the impact of minority students on campus - but would have required all white students and faculty to stay home. Students became so enraged at the incident that they seized control of campus facilities, driving off campus safety officers and forcing the school to shut down for several days.

CBS fires its special counsel who said that Vegas victims didn't deserve sympathy - because country music fans often are 'Republican gun toters'

CBS VP fired
CBS has parted ways with one of the company's top lawyers after she said she was "not even sympathetic" to victims of the Las Vegas shooting because "country music fans often are Republican," when discussing the mass shooting that unfolded in Las Vegas late Sunday night.

Monday night she issued a statement of apology.

Hayley Geftman-Gold, the network's now-former vice president and senior counsel, said, "Earlier today I posted an indefensible post in a Facebook discussion thread concerning the tragic Las Vegas shooting, a statement I sincerely regret. I am deeply sorry for diminishing the significance of every life affected by Stephen Paddock's terrorism last night and for the pain my words have inflicted on the loved ones of the victims. My shameful comments do not reflect the beliefs of my former employer, colleagues, family, and friends. Nor do they reflect my actual beliefs - this senseless violence warrants the deepest empathy. I understand and accept all consequences that my words have incurred."

UK's Monarch Airlines goes bust, leaving holidaymakers stranded

cancelled flights
Departure boards at Luton airport showed cancelled Monarch flights
Monarch Airlines has ceased trading and all its future flights and holidays have been cancelled, affecting hundreds of thousands of customers.

About 860,000 people have lost bookings and more than 30 planes will be sent by the Civil Aviation Authority to return 110,000 holidaymakers who are overseas.

Monarch employs about 2,100 people and reported a £291m loss last year.

Terror attacks in Tunisia and Egypt, increased competition, and the weak pound have been blamed for its demise.

Theresa May's official spokesman said the prime minister "feels hugely sorry" for those affected by a "very distressing situation".

Investigation reveals patients in mental hospitals around Norway given electroshock therapy without consent

At least forty patients in mental hospitals around Norway have been given electroshock treatment without their consent and despite objections from the country's Civil Ombudsman, a local media investigation has claimed.

Reporters from the Verdens Gang (VG) newspaper examined figures from the Norwegian Health Ministry from 2014 to 2016, and found that at least forty patients had been given electric shocks 166 times without their consent.

Electroshock therapy, also known as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), is known to be an effective treatment for some serious mental health conditions including major depression, mania and catatonia. However, it can also cause seizures and memory loss.

Under normal circumstances, ECT is only given to patients who've consented to the procedure, though Norwegian doctors are allowed to authorize it themselves if they feel it is a last resort to save a person's life.

Saudi headchoppers condemned after killing spree, 100 people beheaded for 2017

A Saudi Arabian citizen has been executed in Riyadh, bringing the total number of the people beheaded by the kingdom since the beginning of the year to 100.

According to the SPA, the man was executed over the murder of another Saudi citizen on Monday. Amnesty International has slammed what it refers to as Saudi Arabia's "execution spree."

"This sets the country firmly on track to remain one of the most prolific executioners on the planet," said Amnesty's Lynn Maalouf.

Another mass shooting spurs another grab for guns - and more misguided calls for 'gun control'

gun store
Nothing is more deplorable than hijacking human tragedy to push an unrelated political agenda. A mass murderer taking the lives of some 60 people in Las Vegas this week has nothing to do with the majority of lawful firearms owners in the United States who aren't and have no intention of ever killing another human being.

Yet the knee-jerk reaction of many emotionally-driven people in the face of an overwhelming tragedy is to shift public debate back to gun control and even banning guns altogether.

Emotional and irrational responses in the face of overwhelming circumstances is part of human nature and require patience.

Yet another part of being human is then appealing to our ability to reason. To reason we must have facts.

America's middle class is being systematically destroyed

middle class
When people are dependent on the government they are much easier to control. We are often told that we are not "compassionate" when we object to the endless expansion of government social programs, but that is not how the debate should be framed. In America today, well over 100 million people receive money from the federal government each month, and the number of Americans that are truly financially independent is continually shrinking. In fact, only 25 percent of all Americans have more than $10,000 in savings right now according to one survey. If we eventually get to the point where virtually all of us are dependent on the government for our continued existence, that would give the globalists a very powerful tool of control. In the end, they want as many of us dependent on the government as possible, because those that are dependent on the government are a lot less likely to fight against their agenda.

Back in 1992, the bottom 90 percent of American income earners brought in more than 60 percent of the country's income. But last year that figure slipped to just 49.7 percent. The wealth of our society is increasingly being concentrated at the very top, and the middle class is steadily being eroded. Surveys have found that somewhere around two-thirds of the country is living paycheck to paycheck at least part of the time, and so living on the edge has become a way of life for most Americans.

World conflict has forced 2 million people to flee as refugees this year, says UN

UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi says conflicts, violence, and persecution across the world, including in Myanmar, South Sudan and Syria, have forced over two million people to flee as refugees this year.

Speaking at the UNHCR's annual Executive Committee meeting in the Swiss city of Geneva on Monday, Grandi called for more international cooperation and support to address the crisis.

"The despair of millions of men, women, and children driven from their homes, cast adrift into a life of uncertainty, is a stain on our collective conscience," he said.

Comment: It is a stain. The West, led by the United States, is responsible for much of the conflict in these regions. The UN hasn't done a thing about it. Grandi talks about such suffering in too far-removed of a way. He should hang his head in shame.

The UN refugee chief also pointed to the dire needs of more than half a million persecuted Rohingya Muslims who have fled into Bangladesh from Myanmar's Rakhine state since August 25.

HRW & Amnesty International demand Egypt end 'crackdown' on gay men

gay rainbow flag homosexual
Two international rights groups have called on Egyptian authorities to end their crackdown on people suspected of homosexuality and to "immediately and unconditionally" release at least 11 men detained in the past week.

The latest crackdown began after a group of people were seen raising a rainbow flag at a September 22 concert in a rare display of support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities in the conservative Muslim-majority country of 95 million people.

While taboo in Egypt, homosexuality is not explicitly banned by law. Still, gay men are often arrested in police raids on private parties, public baths, restaurants, and bars.
