The value of the world's largest cryptocurrency bitcoin has broken the $5,800 mark, hitting another all-time high before retreating to the $5,600-$5,700 level, still close to the maximum.

Its market capitalization is approaching $97 billion. If bitcoin were a company, its market cap puts it in the same league as some of the world's biggest corporations.

The cryptocurrency would be in 77th in PwC's list of the top 100 corporations, bigger than Bayer, Goldman Sachs, UPS, Nike, and Mitsubishi.

Bitcoin is up over 480 percent year-to-date.

The reason behind the rally is talk China may reverse the ban it imposed on cryptocurrency exchanges last month. The Chinese central bank also declared initial coin offerings (ICOs) illegal and banned fundraising through ICOs.

Deputy found liable for excessive force after handcuffing disabled elementary school children

handcuffed boy
A federal lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Children's Law Center has finally made progress after a deputy sheriff handcuffed-and seemingly tortured-two small elementary school students who have disabilities.

In an extremely disturbing video, which TFTP reported on in 2015, school resource officer, Kenton County Deputy Sheriff Kevin Sumner, can be seen handcuffing a sobbing 8-year-old boy, referred to in court documents as S.R. The child is so small that Sumner has to lock the child's biceps together behind his back. What makes the case even more appalling is that the child has a history of trauma and has been diagnosed with ADHD.

The other child named in the lawsuit, a girl named in the suit as L.G., was twice handcuffed in the same manner as S.R. She is a special needs student and has also been diagnosed with ADHD.

Neither child was accused of criminal conduct nor were they arrested or charged with a crime, but were being punished for behavior issues.

Abusers, victims coming out of the woodwork in Weinstein's wake: Amazon chief, Oliver Stone accused - Kaya Jones says her pop group was a "prostitution ring"

Update: Amazon Studios executive Roy Price has been suspended following accusations of sexual harassment against a television producer.

"Roy Price is on leave of absence effective immediately," a representative for Amazon said in a statement Thursday night.

Original story below:

Just hours after actress Rose McGowan launched a broadside against Amazon CEO (and Washington Post owner) Jeff Bezos with the accusation that the richest man in the world was "funding rapists, alleged pedos, and sexual harassers," one of Bezos's top executives, Roy Price, was publicly accused of harassing television producer Isa Hackett.

Comment: Actress Vanessa Marquez claimed on Twitter that "Clooney helped blacklist me when I spoke up [about] harassment on ER. Women who don't play the game lose career... I did."
"He's not who he pretends [to be]," added Marquez in another post. "Wells, NBC, Amblin, WB, cast & crew & my agents all complicit in my #Blacklist [for] speaking UP in '95"

After one user expressed their shock that Clooney would be accused of covering up sexual harassment, Marquez replied, "He's a monster in his own way... Everyone should know The Truth About Clooney."
Clooney denied having anything to do with it, saying he "had no idea Vanessa was blacklisted".

Director Oliver Stone has refused to speak out against Weinstein, saying that he believes you should "wait until this thing gets to trial" before commenting. But he too has been accused by former Playboy Playmate Carrie Stevens, who says that 26 years ago, when she was 22, Stone grabbed her breast at a party:
"He was really cocky, had this big grin on his face like he was going to get away with something," Stevens, who was 22 at the time, told The News.

At that point, Stone "reached out and...honked it like a horn," she said, describing him as "an immature guy in elementary school who snaps your bra."

Stevens said she was surrounded by other people, but nobody said anything.

"That's what's going on in Hollywood. That's why things have to change. He's Oliver Stone. Nobody's going to say anything," she told The News.
Former Pussycat Dolls member Kaya Jones revealed what the pop super-star life is really like:
My truth.I wasn't in a girl group. I was in a prostitution ring. Oh & we happened to sing & be famous. While everyone who owned us made the $

How bad was it?people ask-bad enough that I walked away from my dreams, bandmates&a 13 million dollar record deal. We knew we were going to#1

I want the den mother from hell to confess why another 1 of her girl group girls committed suicide? Tell the public how you mentally broke us

To be apart of the team you must be a team player.Meaning sleep with whoever they say.If you dont they have nothing on you to leverage

Yes I said leverage. Meaning after they turn you out or get you hooked on drugs they use it against you. Correct. Victimizing the victim again

Why don't we report it? Because we are all abused! I personally have been warned if I tell I will ... you know end up dead or no more career

Well ...killing you or killing your soul what's the difference. You do it for them.A teenagers go to jail for less. Will Hollywood?

Anyone in Hollywood care to talk about the industry's sins? Nope no one ....

I told press in Hollywood about my abuse & they did nothing. I'm still dealing with Vegas. Talk about back to back. Vegas & Hollywood man

In 2004 I told hollywood executives, 2005-2006 I told press. In 2011 I spoke up again. Hope you can hear me now Media in 2017! Way to go

I wonder if any other victims kept a journal like I did? Oh yes I kept a journal with timelines ....
James Van Der Beek said he too was abused as a young man: "I've had my ass grabbed by older, powerful men, I've had them corner me in inappropriate sexual conversations when I was much younger..."

Update (Oct. 15): Writer Lila Feinberg has called off her wedding with Amazon exec Roy Price, which was planned for November 12.

Trump hate: Irrational anger in America is spreading

Letterman Kimmel
You can't go to a bar or a play.

You can't go out to eat with friends.

You can't even go to a big family dinner without getting into an angry political argument.

Everyone has a strong opinion about Trump, Hillary, Rocket Man, healthcare, Confederate statues, the minimum wage - everything.

And their opinion is always right, and everyone else's is always wrong.

Comment: There are many reasons to be righteously pissed off about the way the US is being run by the psychopathic elite and their lapdogs - but the vast majority of the media is inciting and propping up anger exactly where it need not go - to where it's downright destructive.

Florida man captures the FBI's brutal tactics to recruit him as an informant

Jabar Ali Refaie

A Bailiff pushed Jabar Ali Refaie's wheelchair into a federal courtroom in Tampa, Florida, on September 20. Dressed in an orange jumpsuit and looking weak from not having had the drugs he takes to treat his multiple sclerosis, the 37-year-old Refaie was here for a bond hearing after being indicted on felony charges that allege he sold counterfeit BMW logos and diagnostic software on eBay.

Refaie's case seemed by appearances to be about a lot more than selling shady car parts on the internet. That much was obvious from Assistant U.S. Attorney Carlton C. Gammons's stiff bond requests - $25,000, a GPS monitoring device, the surrender of his passport, and the removal of all firearms from his residence - as well as the six U.S. Homeland Security agents who packed into the courtroom for Refaie's hearing.

Refaie's 30-year-old girlfriend, Felicity, was present in the courtroom. She and Refaie had been married before; after their divorce, when Refaie was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, they rekindled their relationship and live together again but never remarried. Felicity told U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas McCoun III that Refaie wasn't a flight risk. They have 4-month-old daughter together, she said. The government knows all about their lives. "The government has been monitoring us for the better part of two years," she told the judge matter-of-factly. McCoun agreed with the suggested conditions from the U.S. attorney's office, and Refaie was released from jail that evening after posting bond. Prior to this charge, Refaie had no criminal history.

Comment:

Hopefully, there will be some justice for Refaie. It doesn't look too promising, though. The FBI's hand in the manufacturing of terror plots is legion. See also:

France: Border checks extended due to 'persistent' terror threat

France will continue to conduct checks at the borders with the other Schengen zone states until late April 2018, the Interior Ministry said, citing the ongoing threat of terrorist attacks on French soil.

Risk analysis... confirms the existence of a persistent level of threat," the French Interior Ministry said, commenting on its decision. It also added that fears are that Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) could be plotting further attacks on the territory of France.

Justifying the border control extension, the French authorities said France had been targeted in 22 planned terrorist attacks so far in 2017 alone. It added that five of these attacks were carried out by the extremists while five others were thwarted when in progress and 12 more were prevented from happening at all, AFP reports.

The authorities pointed out that one of the major threats to France comes from "internal mobility" within the Schengen zone, adding that crossing the internal borders of the EU still remains part of a strategy used by terrorist organizations, the French Le Point weekly reports.

Comment: Border checks are for those who use roads and have no nefarious terrorist business. It is more for show and emphasis rather than results.

Trump will end key Obamacare subsidy

Trump/patient
© CNN Money
The White House announced late Thursday that President Trump plans to "immediately" end payments to insurers selling Obamacare -- a move that will likely bring about a legal challenge.

Trump is hoping his decision will bring Democrats to the negotiating table to work out a "fix" to the "imploding" law. "The Democrats ObamaCare is imploding. Massive subsidy payments to their pet insurance companies has stopped. Dems should call me to fix!" he tweeted early Friday morning. "ObamaCare is a broken mess. Piece-by-piece we will now begin the process of giving America the great HealthCare it deserves!"

The aggressive measure is just the latest action the president's taken in his efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare after congressional Republicans have failed time and again in delivering on their seven-year promise. Earlier Thursday he signed an executive order to make lower-premium healthcare plans more widely available.

Trump has repeatedly threatened to end the cost sharing reduction (CSR) payments, which have been made on a monthly basis. They are estimated to be worth $7 billion this year, according to The Hill.

"Based on guidance from the Department of Justice, the Department of Health and Human Services has concluded that there is no appropriation for cost-sharing reduction payments to insurance companies under Obamacare. In light of this analysis, the Government cannot lawfully make the cost-sharing reduction payments," the White House announced in a statement Thursday evening. Acting HHS Secretary Eric Hargan and Medicare administrator Seema Verma said the payments will be discontinued "immediately."

Comment: Shutting down the spending of money never appropriated -- blowback from the Dems is moral and financial hypocrisy. Obamacare's illegal subsidy agreements were a bonus guarantee that insurance companies would continue to elect Democratic candidates and support their healthcare policies. It didn't work out that way.

Miko Peled: Son of an IDF General - and a silenced critic of Israel's policy towards Palestinians

Miko Peled
Although the U.S. news media's fancies itself the world's "gold standard," it operates with stunning hypocrisy and huge blind spots, none bigger than its fawning coverage of Israel that ignores critics like Miko Peled.

Despite the U.S. media's extensive coverage of Israel, what Miko Peled says is seldom heard by Americans, although he was born in Jerusalem and comes from a famous Israeli family. Peled's grandfather was one of the signers of the Israeli founding documents. His father was a soldier in the war which led to the creation of Israel and later a senior army general during the 1967 war. And one of Peled's nieces was killed in a suicide bombing attack.

However, in contrast to what one might expect, Miko Peled is a voice of sharp criticism of Israel and Israeli policies. He does not mince his words. Israel is a "settler colonial state" and Israel does NOT have a "right to exist" as an apartheid state with preferential treatment based on ethnicity.

Comment: Voices like Peled's are among the most "dangerous" for the Israel narrative; he underscores the conscience that is inherently missing from those who would continue the slow-motion ethnic cleansing of Palestinians under the guise of defense, or other such lies.

On my sixth yearly visit, I've never seen Gaza so devastated

Sewage in Gaza. It poisons the sea but Gazans have no choice but to go down to the sea.
Sewage in Gaza. It poisons the sea but Gazans have no choice but to go down to the sea.
I've visited the Gaza Strip for each of the past six years, including in 2014 a few months after Israel's devastating military assault. And yet, I've never seen Gaza like I did when I had the privilege of visiting this summer.

I call it a privilege because, due to the blockade of Gaza imposed by Israel (with the support of Egypt), which is part of Israel's now 50-year-old military rule over Palestinians in the occupied territories, internationals allowed in and out of Gaza are few, and Palestinians even fewer. This illegal land, air, and sea blockade, which has just entered its tenth year and amounts to collective punishment, as has been noted by the UN and human rights groups, has decimated the economy of Gaza and allowed for the near complete destruction of critical infrastructure. Experts use the term "de-development" to describe this once-bustling Mediterranean coastal enclave of two million Palestinians.

Nearly half the population are now unemployed and 80% rely on humanitarian assistance from organizations like UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. Nearly one million refugees require UNRWA food assistance now, up from 80,000 people in 2000, before the blockade was in place. At its heart, UNRWA is a human development agency, running the largest and one of the best performing public school system in the entire Middle East, 10 times the size of DC Public Schools. But due to decades of Israel's dispossession, occupation, and systematic oppression of Palestinians, UNRWA is forced to prioritize emergency interventions like food assistance and emergency protection. It's an affront to humanity.
