Pakistani police say they have arrested ten people for killing a newly-wed couple who entered into a free-will marriage in the southern port city of Karachi.

Officer Qasim Hameed said Monday that Abdul Hadi, 24, and Hasina Bibi, 19, were killed by relatives last week for marrying without permission from their elders earlier this month.

Qasim said Hadi's father and nine other relatives were arrested after the couple's bodies were found in a local graveyard on Sunday. He said Bibi's father has absconded.

He added that the men confessed to murdering the couple with knives upon the orders of a "Jirga," or tribal council, for dishonoring their Pashtun culture.

Nearly 1,000 Pakistani women are killed by close relatives each year in so-called honor killings.

Comment: We should call them what they are: horror killings - straight up murder.

US Dept Veteran Affairs fails to report 90% of dangerous medical providers, allowing them to skip from state to state

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report Monday revealing the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has failed to report 90 percent of potentially dangerous medical providers to a national database in recent years.

Reports to the national database are designed to prevent medical providers from jumping from state to state and potentially endangering patients in the locations they relocate, USA Today reports.

The GAO found VA officials failed to report a single problematic clinician to state medical boards, bodies that have the power to revoke licenses.

The audit was conducted throughout five unidentified VA hospitals, and found nine cases where health care workers should have been reported in 2014. With just over 150 hospitals, if the rate of failed reporting held consistent, potentially hundreds of medical providers were not reported.

Comment: One scandal after another, yet nothing much changes at the VA. It's abundantly obvious just how little the US government really values those who have risked everything to serve the country.

John Conyers' accuser wants to break confidentiality agreement, tell her story

The woman who settled a sexual harassment complaint with Democratic Michigan Rep. John Conyers wants to go public and tell her story, despite a confidentiality agreement barring her from doing so.

The woman, a former staffer for Conyers, is asking him to lift the confidentiality agreement she signed as part of a settlement agreement in 2015 after the woman said she was fired for rebuffing Conyers' sexual advances in 2014. Conyers paid the woman more than $27,000 in taxpayer funds in exchange for her silence.

Even if Conyers won't lift the confidentiality agreement, the woman's attorney said she would be happy to testify if subpoenaed, which would automatically void the agreement.

Israeli police arrest 4 Palestinian minors for throwing rocks

palestinian teens
The Israeli police on Monday announced that they have arrested four Palestinian children from Bethlehem city for allegedly throwing stones and homemade explosive devices at Israeli vehicles.

The police said in a statement that investigation has been completed into the incident that took place on the settler road "60", which leads to Occupied Jerusalem, last week.

The statement noted that indictments are scheduled to be filed on Monday at Ofer military court, to the southwest of Ramallah, against the four boys and asked for their detention to be extended.

Comment: That's right: throwing stones and "homemade explosive devices", i.e., glorified firecrackers. These kids live under military occupation. Ask yourself, what would you do?

The enormous snake being dragged away after it killed the man
The enormous snake being dragged away after it killed the man
A man has been strangled to death by a gigantic wild python after it sprung out of a glass jar he'd stuffed it in.

Sawan Tabklai, 55, caught the 21ft-long snake as it slithered around his family home in Sukothai province, Thailand, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He crammed it into a big glass jar, but the snake had become extremely hungry by the time he checked on it last night at about 5pm local time.

The furious python leapt out of the jar, towards Sawan's head, before biting into his arm.

It then wrapped itself around the man's neck while he desperately screamed for help.

Beating wives if they refuse sex is OK according to a British Islamic school text

Books that sanction domestic violence and say women should never refuse their husbands sex are among a series of sexist materials that inspectors have found in Britain's Islamic schools. The education watchdog has compiled a file of the worst examples.

The Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills (Ofsted) discovered a book in a school library entitled 'Women Who Deserve to Go to Hell', which said it was wrong for wives to show "ingratitude to their husband" or "have tall ambitions," according to the Times. It also detailed "mischievous" females who are a "trial for men." In its pages, pupils are told: "In the beginning of the 20th century, a movement for the freedom of women was launched with the basic objective of driving women towards aberrant ways."

Another school Ofsted visited encouraged children to read a text that contrasted the "noble women of the East" who protects her modesty by wearing a veil, while the "internally torn woman of the West" attracts men and leaves her home to hang around in cinemas and cafés.

WADA chief has no evidence but still believes Russia conducted 'state-sponsored doping'

WADA President Sir Craig Reedie

President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Craig Reedie has said that despite the organization still having no sufficient evidence a state-sponsored doping system in Russia ever existed, it does not mean the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) will be reinstated.

In an exclusive interview with RT at the sporting forum Play the Game in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, Reedie said that there are "hints" and "claims" that Russia was involved in state-sponsored doping, but stopped short of saying that it proves Russia's guilt.

RT: You were quoted just recently as saying you thought politics had become a part of sport. What did you mean by that? Where do you see this happening?

The IOC has annulled the results of another five Russian participants of the Sochi 2014 Olympics. The decision rests on the findings of the controversial McLaren report, based on the claims of the disgraced former Moscow anti-doping lab chief.

Two Russian biathletes, Yana Romanova and Olga Vilukhina, both members of the Russian women's silver relay team, have been stripped of their results in Sochi, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced Monday. In addition to the relay silver, Vilukhina also has lost the silver medal she claimed in the women's sprint.

Both Romanova and Vilukhina have already retired from competition, with Vilukhina announcing her decision to hang up her skis and rifle earlier this month.

Why should taxpayers pay for the opioid crisis when Big Pharma caused it?

opioid addiction
© Lightspring / Shutterstock
As everyone today knows, opioid narcotics like fentanyl, hydrocodone, hydromorphone, morphine and oxycodone have created a toxic epidemic in the United States with at least 100 daily overdose deaths. This happened because Pharma paid off doctors, medical associations and federal lawmakers to loosen opioid regulations.

There was a reason narcotics were traditionally limited to severe pain cases, not "everyday" pain-they are addicting and can kill, as we are now seeing. But Pharma-especially the Sackler family's Purdue which makes OxyContin-banked on the fact that younger doctors and patients did not remember why narcotics were so heavily restricted. They were right.
