The modern serfs: Amazon workers tell their warehouse horror stories

Bezoz
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has said critics are wrong about the working conditions in the company's warehouses.
Peeing in trash cans, constant surveillance, and asthma attacks on the job

A former Amazon warehouse worker described being stopped in his tracks by an "awful smell" emanating from the trash cans. The stench, he said, was "unmistakable" and led him to one conclusion: His coworkers were so worried about taking too long on a bathroom break that they had resorted to urinating in the bin.

"I never witnessed anyone in the act but have witnessed the aftermath," the US staffer told Business Insider. "In three instances I had noticed an awful smell, pinpointed the location - trash bins that are scattered throughout the multitiered mezzanine - and reported it. From what I heard afterward, camera evidence got these associates fired."

His story echoes an investigation by the James Bloodworth, who went undercover as a worker in an Amazon warehouse in the UK in 2016 for a book on low-wage jobs.

Facebook to 'dial up the intensity' of news 'suppression' leading up to midterm elections

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated recently that the company plans to "dial up the intensity" of news suppression leading towards the U.S. midterm elections.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated this week that the social media firm has plans to further crack down on fake news on the platform via "suppression" of certain news publications. BuzzFeed News reports that Zuckerberg revealed that Facebook has been gathering data on certain publications by asking consumers how they feel about certain publications and their trustworthiness.

Zuckerberg stated: "We put [that data] into the system, and it is acting as a boost or a suppression, and we're going to dial up the intensity of that over time. We feel like we have a responsibility to further [break] down polarization and find common ground." Zuckerberg stated that Facebook would be investing billions of dollars into human moderators to spot fake news on the platform as well as heavily investing in artificial intelligence. "We're essentially going to be losing money on doing political ads," stated Zuckerberg.

Pentagon: Cyber warfare will define the next century of warfare

US Cybercom has been elevated to a combatant command, a major boost to its power and autonomy in line with a new US strategy to focus on digital threats from Russia, China and Iran.

"The cyber domain will define the next century of warfare," said Pentagon spokesperson Dana W. White in a press briefing as she announced the decision, which had been put forward by Defense Secretary Jim Mattis last year.

Cybercom will join the nine existing permanent commands that report directly to Mattis. The existing commands are divided either by geographical areas, such as the US European command, or areas of responsibility, like the Spec Ops command, and the Strategic command, of which Cybercom was formerly a part.

According to White, with its new status, Cybercom "will play a critical role in training the military's cyber warriors, advocating for more cybersecurity resources, and planning and conducting cyber operations."

Comment: It's no wonder the US military is focusing on cyber warfare, since when it comes to conventional warfare they have been outclassed and outmaneuvered by the Russian military. They probably figure they ought to focus on something else to try and beat the Russians.

Six months later, Pam died. She was 59.

Now, her husband is on a mission to change the system that put his wife in the vulnerable situation that led to her death.

"It's my goal now to help her co-workers," Don Knight told WBBM. "I do not ever want a co-worker of hers to end up this way."

SOTT Focus: Ben Swann's Reality Check: Who's funding the White Helmets?

As the U.S. moves closer toward all out war in Syria, a lot of what our government seems to base its intelligence on, especially claims of chemical weapon use by the Syrian government, is the claims of an allegedly impartial humanitarian group called the White Helmets. You've no doubt, heard of the White Helmets. They have been praised in the media as heroes and have reportedly saved more than 100,000 lives as of April 2018.

But who are the White Helmets really? Are they a legitimate organization, or pawns in a plot to implement regime change in Syria?

Let's give it a Reality Check you won't get anywhere else.

Despite a recent U.S. funding freeze for humanitarian aid for Syria, the U.S. continues to fund the controversial group.

Fascist Ukrainians plan Victory Day counter-march to honor SS Nazi collaborators

Ukrainian nationalists plan to walk on Victory Day with photos of their relatives, who fought for the Nazis as part the SS 1st Galician Division during World War II, to counter the Immortal Regiment Marches held in the country.

The Immortal Regiment tradition was launched in Russia a decade ago and has since then been picked up internationally, as millions of people across the globe march on May 9, carrying portraits of their relatives who fought the Nazis in World War II.

But the leader of Ukrainian nationalist organization Bratstvo (Brotherhood), Dmitry Korchinsky, has downgraded the Immortal Regiment to a mere "Russian propaganda stunt" in a post on Facebook. He announced that the radicals were preparing a counter-march on May 8 and 9, entitled the "Immortal Division."

"With portraits of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers from the Galician Division, we must convince the vatniks [offensive term for Russians and supporters of Russian values, used by the Ukrainian nationalists] that their Immortal Regiment is not that immortal," Korchinsky wrote.

All totalitarian regimes operate the same way - wanting the message controlled, criminalizing legitimate dissent, targeting anything daring to challenge oppressive policies.

Arab Israeli poet Dareen Tatour was imprisoned multiple times for criticizing repressive regime policies, including for her poem titled "Resist, My People, Resist Them" in response to Israel's brutal murder of three Palestinian children.

She's one of countless numbers of Palestinians persecuted for resisting occupation harshness - her way through the power of moving poetry.

She was illegally arrested and detained in October 2015, unjustly indicted in November 2016, charged with "incitement to violence" and "support for a terrorist organization" - for her poetry, Facebook and You Tube posts.

Two teens, allegedly inspired by the Columbine school massacre, planned to "kill everyone" at their Yorkshire school, and wanted to 'play god' by choosing 'who lives or dies,' a court has heard.

The two boys, now aged 15 and who cannot be named for legal reasons, were arrested by counter-terrorism police over the alleged plot in the town of Northallerton in north England. Leeds Crown Court heard that the older of the two boys detailed his graphic animations to kill in a 'diary of horrors', which described his adoration for mass murderers including the Columbine shooters and Charles Manson.

"F***, I hate my school. I will obliterate it. I will kill everyone," the teen allegedly wrote in October. "I have a plan, a great f***ing plan."

The court also heard that the boy detailed his plans to "lay low" in Catterick before murdering his ex-girlfriend's parents and stealing her father's guns, according to his journal.

SOTT Focus: The Most Important Election in the World! Lebanon?...What Election?

Lebanon elections 2018
Election posters cover buildings and walls in Tripoli’s Bab al-Tabbaneh neighbourhood
In a matter of mere hours, a new election will take place. Unlike seemingly all other national elections worldwide, this election will bring real "hope" to a needlessly impoverished country. This election will see real "change" come to a country far too long restricted and controlled by external foreign powers. For this is an election that is steeped in real democracy; not the US-inspired definition - the one based solely on the archaic shards of what little is left of a desperate empire struggling to hold onto its waning influence. This election will showcase, finally and thankfully, a return to the true definition.

This Sunday, May 6, 2018, is the most important election in the world!

Proving the point, why is this election being swept under the rug of worldwide US media control? Here, unlike the remaining hapless world, there is a very bright future awaiting for all... an example for an anguished world begging to finally be set free. It will be this democracy, correctly re-defined and judiciously administered, that will, on this coming day, succeed for all.

World! Welcome to Lebanon.

SOTT Focus: Armenia's People-Power Revolution, Russia, and the Western Bloc

Armenia
As we write this, massive peaceful civil actions against Armenia's establishment have continued under the leadership of Nikol Pashinyan, a National Assembly (N.A.) member who is part of the opposition Yelk (Way Out) Alliance. Though widely unpopular Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan has been forced to resign, his Republican Party (RPA) still has a narrow majority (58 of 105) in the N.A. Most observers believe that the RPA members were elected through fraud, bribery, and intimidation.
