A Spanish newspaper says "various sources" have confirmed suicide, but Catalonia's court system refuses to comment.

Antivirus software tycoon John McAfee took his own life in prison, a preliminary post-mortem examination is reported to have shown.

The 75-year-old's cause of death was "confirmed by various sources", according to Spanish newspaper El Pais. According to the same sources, McAfee left a suicide note, it added.

Comment: Yet, what to make of tweets by McAfee? A man of such arrogance does not seem one who would kill himself.

A huge fire which broke out underneath Elephant and Castle station leading to explosions and evacuations left one person in hospital and five more injured.

Fifteen engines and 100 firefighters were sent to the south east London station, where the fire had started in garages in the arches of the railway station.

Videos from the scene showed explosions sending fireballs out of the unit (below), with people having to evacuate the area. One image captured on social media showed a police officer carrying two children from the station.

Daytona Beach cop-shooting suspect Othal Wallace praised by radical left social media

Othal “O-Zone” Wallace

Othal Wallace, the suspect in a manhunt that ended Friday morning after a Daytona, Florida, police officer was shot in the head while on duty, is garnering support on social media.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reviewed Facebook and Instagram accounts appearing to belong to Wallace, 29, that contained anti-police rhetoric, and support for the suspect is building on social media. The accounts have since been deleted.

"There's nothing that's been posted that we haven't seen," Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young said at a Thursday press conference. He added later that "what's been posted on social media is that this guy's heartless."

Comment: American Thinker had and excellent summation of the grotesqueness:
The wokester era of today has spawned not just Critical Race Theory taught in schools, but opened the gates to truly criminal extremists — from Antifa to, now, this guy, whose only agenda is to shoot cops. In the 1960s, it was the Black Panthers. Today, it's this loser, and we don't see anything in the fawning press to condemn him. It is, after all, the era of Black Lives Matter, bowing corporations that give them money, and "defund the police" in the political arena.

The dynamic we see now is not just comparable to Antifa and the Black Panthers. It's similar to that of spray-shooters, too.

The maniacs do an awful act, and the internet minions, often anonymous, cheer and egg them on, making them feel good about their crimes. That happened with the freak who shot up the synagogue in Poway based on Jew-hate, and now it seems to be moving to cops. The cheers are not only vile in themselves, making the criminal feel important; the other thing is that they have the potential to prompt new attacks on cops as some new loser decides that he too can go from "zero to hero" with the copycat urge among this bunch is strong. That's how things work with spray-shooters. Now we see it with sworn cop-killers. It's a social dynamic.

Facebook does nothing to stop this so far as we know. The grotesque hate-cheers list from Fox went on and on and on. That's likely because the characters here are black, and Facebook wouldn't dream of being called "racist" even with killing going on.

We've seen this bad dynamic a couple of times in the past:

One, with the advent of rap lyrics all full of cuss words never seen in public discourse, as well as coarse, grotesque abuse of women, and a healthy dose of cop-hate, too. That coarsened the culture in many ways, not the least of which has been in the recent apologies of singer Billie Eilish, who apologized for following the words of the genre, as well as Hunter Biden, whose use of the "n-word" was clearly influenced by his consumption of this kind of rap music.

Two, the advent of gangsta rappers spewing anti-Asian hate more recently. That is the most likely root of inordinate numbers of criminals pushing Asian-Americans into subways, openly assaulting them in the streets, and looting their storefront shops. Back in March, YouTube refused to ban one of the "pioneers" of this sick genre, and sure enough, the crap influenced a lot of zero-to-hero creeps to multiply the problem in the months that followed.

It's a culture, and the lords of the internet are too cowed to stop it, despite their rhetoric on community standards and civility, which, as it happens, is employed only against conservatives.

But it's increasingly bad stuff now that cop-killing is getting out into the open as a lifestyle choice based on all this social media cheer. You can bet we will see more of it as the internet lords continue to operate with impunity, raking the profits in.

Since this garbage is likely to lead to death, it lays out the case for legislation, making these social media companies that tolerate it accountable and sueable at the very least. Something's got to give now that the culture has descended this low. The press and the Democrats certainly won't do it. The Republicans have got to make this a campaign issue and follow through when they win back Congress in 2022.

Billedeau-Stratton, 40, had felt a sudden shaking from her fourth-floor balcony and frantically called her husband screaming before saying that there was a sinkhole.

A woman who is among the 156 missing from the Miami condo collapse last week called her husband saying that she had just seen the swimming pool of the building cave in and screamed "bloody murder" seconds before the Champlain Towers fell down. The line then went dead and she has since been missing, according to a new report.

Bon appetit! Woke French academic claims her country's cuisine is RACIST

The French are obsessively proud of their fine dining, but it hasn't gone down well with one university professor, who claims their love of posh food is being used to reinforce white privilege and dominance. Yes, really.

Aw, man - sacré bleu! Some bonkers professor from the University of Woke (that's a new college based in a gender-neutral parallel universe where nobody says anything that could offend anyone EVER) has forced me to break a most enjoyable habit of a lifetime... and side with the French.

I guess the Germans of the first half of the 20th century managed the same trick, though. The Kaiser and then Adolf Hitler forced most Brits to override their natural instincts and run to the aid of those folk on the other side of the English Channel who somehow cannot defend themselves.

A baguette isn't an effective weapon, I suppose.

Ghislaine Maxwell: A morally bankrupt monster, exposed in all her horror in documentary 'Epstein's Shadow'

Sky's new documentary Ghislaine Maxwell: Epstein's Shadow paints a vivid picture of the damaged socialite's infatuation with evil men and the slavish devotion that has led to her languishing in a New York prison, awaiting trial.

Binge-watching all three parts of Ghislaine Maxwell: Epstein's Shadow was a long way from the entertaining experience I was expecting. Far from a fast-paced, bawdy romp through the bad behaviour of trans-Atlantic high society, it revealed a dark, sordid and totally corrupt parallel world that left me feeling kinda sick.

UN calls for end of 'impunity' for police violence against black people

Report launched in aftermath of George Floyd murder cites example of 2018 death of Kevin Clarke in UK.

A UN report that analysed racial justice in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd has called on member states including the UK to end the "impunity" enjoyed by police officers who violate the human rights of black people.

The UN human rights office analysis of 190 deaths across the world led to the report's damning conclusion that law enforcement officers are rarely held accountable for killing black people due in part to deficient investigations and an unwillingness to acknowledge the impact of structural racism.

Comment: It would be interesting to hear if the report included a comparison of accountability in the wrongful deaths of other racial groups. All that's mentioned in the article is the number of victims of African decent. In other words, is there a problem with police accountability overall, or is it really about race? The problem can't be addressed until the facts are established.

Supreme Court won't hear school's appeal in transgender bathroom access fight

gavin grimm
Gavin Grimm
The Supreme Court on Monday declined an appeal from a Virginia school board in a long-running battle over bathroom access, effectively handing a victory to transgender student Gavin Grimm.

The move came in an unsigned order, with two of the court's more conservative justices, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, indicating they would have taken up the appeal.

The development leaves in place a federal appeals court ruling in favor of Grimm, a transgender student who first sued his school district in Gloucester County, Va., in 2015 for access to the boys' bathroom.

Polish Catholic Church facing wave of sex abuse allegations

Nave of St. Joseph's Polish Catholic Church, Camden
The Catholic Church in Poland is facing a wave of allegations of sexual abuse, church authorities said on Monday, as they laid out statistics on the extent of abuse amid an investigation into alleged cover-ups by a senior clergyman.

Seen by many as a core element of Poland's national identity, the Catholic Church is a powerful force in public life. However, it has been rocked by a series of paedophilia scandals that have contributed to the erosion of its authority, especially among younger Poles.

"We have a wave of revelations," Adam Zak, coordinator for the protection of children and young people at the Conference of the Polish Episcopate, told a news conference.
