DeSantis moves to codify Florida's CRT ban, empowers parents to sue schools

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced plans to codify the state-wide ban on Critical Race Theory-inspired lessons for students and employees on Wednesday in Wildwood, Florida.

DeSantis laid out his new legislation titled, "Stop the Wrongs to Our Kids and Employees Act," or the Stop WOKE Act, which aims to "give businesses, employees, children, and families tools to fight back against woke indoctrination." The legislation also "prohibits school districts, colleges, and universities from hiring woke CRT consultants," according to a handout.

Comment: DeSantis is a rare beacon of sanity.
According to a press release from DeSantis' office:
"The Stop WOKE Act will be the strongest legislation of its kind in the nation and will take on both corporate wokeness and Critical Race Theory. Today's proposal builds on actions Governor DeSantis has already taken to ban Critical Race Theory and the New York Times' 1619 project in Florida's schools."
DeSantis, at the press conference, said:
"Our legislation would defund any money from K-12 to higher ed going to CRT. I view the wokeness as a form of cultural Marxism. They want to tear at the fabric of our society and our culture, really things we've taken for granted, like the ability of parents to direct the upbringing of their kids. In Florida we are taking a stand against the state-sanctioned racism that is critical race theory."
The proposed legislation would also classify businesses that require critical race theory training as a "hostile work environment" under Florida law.
"We also have a responsibility to ensure that parents have the means to vindicate their rights when it comes to enforcing state standards. Finally, we must protect Florida workers against the hostile work environment that is created when large corporations force their employees to endure CRT-inspired 'training' and indoctrination.

"How is it not a hostile work environment to be attacking people based on their race or telling them that they're privileged or part of oppressive systems when all they're doing is showing up to work and trying to earn a living? We believe that that violates the Florida Civil Rights laws, but to the extent that it doesn't, we're going to make sure that the law does include this."
The prosed bill builds on a move by the Florida Department of Education in June, which banned CRT teachings in public school classrooms.

Amid travel measures that have been imposed in light of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, incoming Canadian citizens and permanent residents are facing ongoing complications upon their return from the United States at land border crossings.

Mississauga, Ont., truck driver Nawaz Khan said he makes two to three trips across the U.S. border each week, transporting building supplies.

However, Khan's FAST card, which clears him for customs when crossing, recently expired. This required him to drive to the U.S. in his personal vehicle to get it renewed. He was there for less than 45 minutes.

"I did the interview, I came back to the Canadian side," Khan said.

When he returned, border agents told Khan he had to quarantine for two weeks, despite being fully vaccinated.

Five ex-employees have alleged sexual harassment at the iconic SpaceX, claiming the work environment is hostile and unresponsive to women, according to two separate reports about the company's culture.

The former employees insist that the problem received no solid responses from SpaceX's HR department.

The initial claim was made in an essay by Ashley Kosak, a former mission integration engineer at the company, saying she couldn't "stop getting sexually harassed." Blasting the company's workplace in a text published on the Lioness website , she declared it's "in a state of disrepair and dysfunction" that left her with no choice but to leave.

"I reported each incident of sexual harassment I experienced to HR, and nothing was done," Kosak wrote. Despite stating that, to her knowledge, new SpaceX interns "receive training on how to better report their harassment," she argued harassers "have still not been held to account."

The Pentagon, with the support of military leaders and U.S. President Joe Biden, mandated COVID-19 vaccination for all military service members in early September. The Pentagon stresses inoculation from COVID-19 and other diseases to avoid outbreaks from impeding the fighting force of the US Military.
The Air Force has discharged 27 members for refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine in the first such enforcement action from any U.S. Military branch, the Associated Press reported Monday.

The Air Force required its personnel to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by Nov. 2, but the Pentagon has allowed other branches to determine their own deadlines. While the vast majority of servicemembers have complied, a small number have refused. Each of the 27 members discharged Monday were younger, lower ranking and in their first enlistment term, Air Force spokesperson Ann Stefanek told the AP. None of the individuals sought out specific exemptions.

Each branch of the military is currently in the process of addressing members who have refused the COVID-19 vaccine, but the Air Force is the first to reach a discharge. Reporting from late October suggested as many as 12,000 Air Force personnel were not in compliance with the mandate, though it is unclear how many remain unvaccinated now or how the Air Force is dealing with specific cases.

Google has told its US staff they must be vaccinated against Covid-19 by the middle of January or face serious repercussions including a pay cut and ultimately the loss of their job.

Employees were told they were required to have declared their vaccination status and uploaded proof of it, or to have applied for a medical or religious exemption, by 3 December, according to an internal memo obtained by CNBC, which first reported the story.

After that date, Google said, it would start to contact workers who were unvaccinated or had not uploaded proof of vaccination, or whose exemption requests had not been approved.

According to the memo, employees who missed a deadline of 18 January to comply with the rules would initially be placed on "paid administrative leave" for 30 days, followed by six months of "unpaid personal leave". In the final step, Google would terminate the person's employment.

FBI officials had sex with prostitutes while overseas, inspector general investigation finds

FBI agent
Of the five FBI agents who solicited commercial sex, two resigned, two retired, and one was removed while the investigation was still ongoing.
An investigation released by the Department of Justice Tuesday found four FBI officials engaged in commercial sex with prostitutes while overseas and a fifth official attempted to - a direct violation of DOJ and FBI policies.

The investigation said the officials "lacked candor" in failing to report their involvement or other agents' involvement in soliciting sex with prostitutes.

Comment: These officials lack of whole lot more than just candor. They clearly lack integrity, character, honesty, and so on.

A Texas man has been arrested for allegedly scamming the US government out of $3.3 million in Covid-19 pandemic relief payments, which he spent on real estate, luxury vehicles, and private jets.

Scott Jackson Davis, 46, was granted $3.3 million in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans after he claimed he needed the money to pay for the "significant payroll" of three businesses. An investigation revealed, however, that the companies "had few if any employees and little to no payroll."

Authorities also discovered that Davis had previously pleaded guilty to felony wire fraud - a detail he left out of his loan application.

Thousands of migrants from 30 countries arrive at Arizona border

Border Patrol agents in Yuma arrested nearly 3,000 migrants between Friday and Sunday, marking another busy weekend. The migrants were from 30 countries and included family units, unaccompanied children, and single adults.

The volume of migrants choosing Yuma as an entry point prompted Mayor Douglas Nicholls to issue an emergency proclamation, hoping to secure additional resources to combat the flow and effects of illegal migration on local resources.

According to Nicholls, last week showed reports of more than 6,000 migrants attempting to travel through the Yuma area. With Border Patrol facilities and transportation resources stretched thin, many migrants were openly moving through residential areas searching for Border Patrol agents.

Nicholls added: "Migrants are traveling through Yuma during a time of great uncertainty about the COVID-19 virus, and without provisions for adequate food, water, shelter, transportation, and medical care. This surge of migrants has and will continue to strain the ability of medical staff and local hospital resources to provide essential and necessary medical care."
