The new McCarthyism: Trump campaign chairman with 'ties to Russia, Ukraine' resigns

The campaign chairman for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has resigned.

Paul Manafort's resignation on August 19 comes amid a campaign shake-up by Trump and reports about Manafort's lobbying work for a Ukrainian political party and failure to register as a foreign agent.

Manafort was an adviser for the Ukrainian presidential campaign of Viktor Yanukovych and his pro-Russian Party of Regions from 2004 until 2010.

Trump's Democratic rival Hillary Clinton's campaign said the resignation does not end all questions about Trump's friendly relationship with Russia.

"You can get rid of Manafort, but that doesn't end the odd bromance Trump has with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin," Robby Mook, Clinton's campaign manager, said.

Comment: Will Hillary resign because of her ties to Russia (not to mention Saudi Arabia)? Fat chance.

The NSA leak is real, whistleblower Snowden documents confirm

NSA ShadowBrokers
ON MONDAY, A HACKING group calling itself the "ShadowBrokers" announced an auction for what it claimed were "cyber weapons" made by the NSA. Based on never-before-published documents provided by the whistleblower Edward Snowden, The Intercept can confirm that the arsenal contains authentic NSA software, part of a powerful constellation of tools used to covertly infect computers worldwide.

The provenance of the code has been a matter of heated debate this week among cybersecurity experts, and while it remains unclear how the software leaked, one thing is now beyond speculation: The malware is covered with the NSA's virtual fingerprints and clearly originates from the agency.

The evidence that ties the ShadowBrokers dump to the NSA comes in an agency manual for implanting malware, classified top secret, provided by Snowden, and not previously available to the public. The draft manual instructs NSA operators to track their use of one malware program using a specific 16-character string, "ace02468bdf13579." That exact same string appears throughout the ShadowBrokers leak in code associated with the same program, SECONDDATE.

SECONDDATE plays a specialized role inside a complex global system built by the U.S. government to infect and monitor what one document estimated to be millions of computers around the world. Its release by ShadowBrokers, alongside dozens of other malicious tools, marks the first time any full copies of the NSA's offensive software have been available to the public, providing a glimpse at how an elaborate system outlined in the Snowden documents looks when deployed in the real world, as well as concrete evidence that NSA hackers don't always have the last word when it comes to computer exploitation.

Saul Fox revealed as the secret donor behind "Children of Israel," a ghost corporation funding GOP Super PACs

The 2016 elections have seen a surge in contributions from "ghost corporations," so-called because they are not functioning businesses or non-profits, and hence seem to exist solely to shield their owners' identities.

Ghost corporations are a particularly dangerous and alarming new twist in campaign financing in the wake of the Supreme Court's 2010 Citizens United decision. They make a mockery of one of the central claims of that decision: that "prompt disclosure" and "transparency" would allow U.S. democracy to survive the unlimited flood of money into elections from individuals, corporations and unions.

So exposing the real donors hiding behind ghost corporations is essential. And The Intercept has now determined the identity of the donor behind this cycle's second-most generous ghost corporation, Children of Israel LLC. He is Saul Fox, a California private equity CEO.

Children of Israel LLC contributed $150,000 in 2015 to Pursuing America's Greatness, a Super PAC supporting Mike Huckabee's presidential run; $400,000 in 2016 to Stand for Truth, a Super PAC supporting Ted Cruz; and $334,000 to the Republican National Committee.

Fox's motive in masking his identity is unknown. He did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Leaked memo shows George Soros worked to push Greece to support Ukraine coup and paint Russia as an enemy

Izvještaj tajnih službi: U Mađarskoj Soroš manipuliše javnim mnjenjem
Last week we reported on the DC Leaks hack of what was over 2,500 documents detailing how George Soros and his NGOs influence world leaders, drive foreign policy, and help to create unrest in sovereign nations, that many times leads to chaos and civil war.

One country of particular focus for George Soros and his NGOs is Ukraine.

It is now accepted fact that Soros was deeply involved in the Maiden protests in 2014 and the violent coup, that saw a democratically elected government overthrown in the name of "EU values".

What is even more troubling, as revealed by the DC Leaks hack, is how Soros and his network of "non-profit organizations" worked to lobby EU member states into not only buying his Ukraine "Maidan" narrative, but to also disavow any ties and support for Russia.

Leaked documents show that George Soros was active in mapping out the Greek media landscape with generous grants, so as to further his Ukraine project, while also using his deep pockets to get Greek media to turn against the Russian Federation...in what can only be described as a well-funded and orchestrated smear campaign.

Sanders supporters' class action lawsuit against Debbie Wasserman Schultz for rigging DNC vote allowed to continue

Sanders fans seek justice for rigged Democratic primaries

In June, the hacker Guccifer 2.0 released internal Democratic National Committee (DNC) documents proving the DNC treated Hillary Clinton as their nominee before the primaries even began. Not long after these revelations came to light, the law firm Beck & Lee filed a class action lawsuit against now-former DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and the DNC on behalf of Bernie Sanders supporters.

The suit includes six claims: fraud, negligent misrepresentation, deceptive conduct, monetary restitution for donors of Sanders, the DNC breaking its own fiduciary duties, and negligence for failing to protect sensitive donor information that was hacked. Beck & Lee noted the lawsuit was a way to give a voice to Sanders supporters who were silenced by the rigging of the primaries for Clinton. Attorneys Jared Beck, a Harvard Law graduate, and Elizabeth Beck, a Yale Law School graduate, have previously filed successful lawsuits against Yelp, Unilever, Korea Airlines, and fraudulent real estate investor

The July WikiLeaks release provided further evidence that the DNC actively worked against Sanders, yet the Vermont senator's supporters have received no recompense. The damage control used to divert from the content of these emails portrayed criticism of Clinton as a Russian conspiracy. While the mainstream media has devolved into an apparatus to funnel messaging and talking points directly from the DNC and Clinton campaign, the litigation for this class action lawsuit has been moving forward.

Comment: The trail of bodies in the horror show that is power-mad Killary grows ever longer.

U.S. Olympians feel they can lie with impunity - only following their government's example

US capitol building
Yesterday the U.S. Olympic Committee released a statement apologizing "to the people of Brazil" for what it appears to concede was a trumped up story by four U.S. athletes about being robbed at gunpoint. The statement from the USOC characterized the alleged "robbery" as follows: "They stopped at a gas station to use the restroom, where one of the athletes committed an act of vandalism. An argument ensued between the athletes and two armed gas station security staff, who displayed their weapons, ordered the athletes from their vehicle and demanded the athletes provide a monetary payment."

The USOC added:
"The behavior of these athletes is not acceptable, nor does it represent the values of Team USA or the conduct of the vast majority of its members."
Our first epiphany that America was in trouble on the issue of lying about matters large and small came in 2006. It was a seemingly small matter. We were browsing in a plant nursery in the Northeast and noticed that several dozen containers of Purple Fountain Grass were sitting in the perennial plant section instead of with other annuals where they belonged. We walked over to the young nursery manager and mentioned the mistake. His spontaneous quip has been seared on our brains every since. He said: "If the President can lie, so can I."

That was during the presidency of George W. Bush, where he took the nation to war with Iraq on the basis that it had "weapons of mass destruction," which it did not.

Today, the United States faces a Presidential election in less than three months where the two major party candidates for the highest office in the land have repeatedly lied to the American people about critical issues. They know they have lied, the American people know they have lied, and yet they are not disqualified from the most critical post in the world: Commander in Chief of a nation with 7,000 nuclear warheads. Important, powerful people can now lie with impunity in the United States of America - and that arrogance is trickling down to the next generation.

Comment: The moral compass of a nation is set by its leaders. The psychopathic nature of successive US regimes has filtered down almost completely to the body politic.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry once again sent a note of protest to the Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday in connection with a trip to Crimea by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry expresses strong protest over Russian president's stay in the Ukrainian territory on August 19 that was not coordinated [with the Ukrainian side]," the note said.

Putin arrived in Crimea on Friday for a session with permanent members of the Russian Security Council. It is his first trip to the peninsula after recent attempted terrorist attacks by Kiev.

Maduro says any Venezuela coup bid would meet tougher reaction than Turkey's purge

Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro said the purge by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan meted out on rivals after a failed coup would look like child's play compared with the action he would take if opposition tried something similar in the OPEC nation.

"Did you see what happened in Turkey?" said Maduro, in a televised public event on Thursday evening. "Erdogan will seem like a nursing baby compared to what the Bolivarian revolution will do if the right wing steps over the line with a coup."

After an abortive military coup in July, Erdogan's government detained, suspended or placed under investigation more than 60,000 people in the military, judiciary, civil service and education.

Ever since Maduro's mentor, the late President Hugo Chavez survived an opposition-backed coup attempt in 2002, the revolution he named after Latin American liberator Simon Bolivar has tarred opponents as intent on retaking power by force.

Maduro is facing plunging popularity as low oil prices and economic mismanagement have dragged one of the wealthiest countries in the Americas into a deep recession, triggering shortages of basics like food and medicines.

The opposition plans a big march in Caracas on Sept. 1 to demand a recall referendum aimed at cutting short Maduro's six-year term, due to end in 2019.

Clinton avoids deposition under oath but must still answer private e-mail server questions

Assange Clinton DNC emails wikileaks
Hillary Clinton won a U.S. court order denying a conservative watchdog group's bid to force her to submit to questioning under oath about her use of a private e-mail server while secretary of state, but she'll need to answer at least some of those queries in writing.

U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan on Friday set an Oct. 14 deadline for Judicial Watch to submit its questions to the Democratic presidential nominee, meaning her replies may not come until after the Nov. 8 election. Judicial Watch said it will act quickly, signaling Clinton's answers may arrive in the final weeks of the campaign.

The e-mail controversy spurred a federal criminal investigation and has dogged Clinton for more than a year as she vies for the White House. Her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, and his party have made it the centerpiece of their attacks on her honesty and credibility.
