Pat Buchanan: Bitter Obama leaving office with 'let's wreck the place attitude'

Wednesday on Newsmax TV's "The Steve Malzberg Show," conservative political commentator and former staffer for Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan Pat Buchanan said President Barack Obama was acting with "bitterness" when today at a meeting on Capitol Hill he told Democrats to resist helping Republicans replace his signature legislation, the Affordable Care Act.

Buchanan said, "I think what you are seeing here — If that is an accurate report of what he said — Here is a guy who really feels he's been rejected and repudiated. I'm astonished he's letting it show like this. As a departing president I have seen very few that have gone out with the kind of bitterness he has. And a kind of sort of let's wreck the place before we get out and let's leave all these land mines in here, so and I think it testifies to the fact that as we heard when Michelle Obama said they have no hope. So they must be in real despair in there at the White House and his behavior portrayed it."

Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier to leave first as Russia scales down military presence in Syria

The Russian Navy is returning the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov and its group from the Mediterranean Sea back to Russia, the defense ministry reports. The move comes as Russia begins reducing its military presence in Syria.

The Kuznetsov group will return to its home base in Severomorsk, the chair of the Russian General Staff, Army Gen. Valery Gerasimov, announced on Friday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a partial pullout of military forces from Syria after negotiating a ceasefire deal with Iran and Turkey. He said it offered an opportunity to end the six-year armed conflict in the Middle Eastern nation.

The Kuznetsov was deployed to Syria in mid-October 2016, accompanied by three other warships and several support ships. In addition to using its warplanes to target militant forces, the group used its Mediterranean mission to train in joint action with other branches of the Russian military, Col. Gen. Andrey Kartapolov, commander of the Russian forces in Syria, said.

Afghan murderer and Syrian refugee breach UK borders, using fake passport

Britain's border security has come under scrutiny after a Syrian refugee revealed how he entered the UK on a fake passport, and a convicted Afghan murderer who beheaded a woman got into the country, only to assault two police officers days later.

Jamshid Piruz, who served seven years in jail for murdering his female tenant in Almere, near Amsterdam, attacked two police constables days after arriving in the UK last January.

Meanwhile, Syrian refugee Mohammad Aabouss told the Sun newspaper he was amazed how easy it was to enter Britain with a fake passport, adding: "I could have been a terrorist."

It comes as former Scotland Yard counter-terrorism detective David Videcette criticized the EU's open borders policy and accused the bloc of not being serious about the safety of its citizens.

Dutch resident and convicted murderer Piruz first came to UK Police attention when he assaulted a member of staff at Gatwick Airport.

Amnesty International: 'Irresponsible' arms transfers contribute to 'Iraqi militia's war crimes'

Iraqi militias fighting Islamic State alongside government troops are using weapons - supplied by major military powers - to commit war crimes, stage revenge attacks and commit other atrocities, according to a new Amnesty International report.

"International arms suppliers, including the USA, European countries, Russia and Iran, must wake up to the fact that all arms transfers to Iraq carry a real risk of ending up in the hands of militia groups with long histories of human rights violations," said Patrick Wilcken, Amnesty International's researcher on arms control and human rights.

The report, entitled 'Turning a blind eye: The arming of the Popular Mobilization Units', comes as Iraqi troops and allied Shia militia units attempt to re-capture the Islamic State's (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) stronghold of Mosul.

Securing the large and heavily fortified city has proved difficult due to the terror group's resistance and firepower. Iraqi forces have also been involved in cases of abuse, torture and extrajudicial killings, according to previous media reports.

Now, AI says, the Shia militias loyal to the Iraqi government have used foreign-supplied arms "to facilitate the enforced disappearance and abduction of thousands of mainly Sunni men and boys, torture and extrajudicial executions as well as wanton destruction of property."

The weapons come from various countries, with the US the main supplier of military equipment to Iraqi forces. Since 2014, under the umbrella of the Iraq Train and Equip Fund (ITEF), about $1.6 billion of weapons have been brought into Iraq. the arsenal includes 38,400 M4 rifles, 1,560 M240 machine guns and 584,120, 81mm and 60mm mortars.

Can a U.S.-focused Trump save the world from transnational oligarchies?

The Last Days Of Global Order?
"...At the moment such concepts as "national interests of the United States" or "U.S. foreign policy" are meaningless, as indeed there are only "interests" and "policies" of transnational oligarchy using the muscle of the United States for its narrow corporate goals."

"Figuratively speaking, at this point, the United States is a kind of icebreaker without breaks, speeding at maximum speed, aimed at breaking the existing world order. And then it will be sunk, as the only way to stop the US. This is why the brunt of the war against the non-Western world lies on the United States."
I wrote this in the late 90-ies of the last century. If we proceed from what is happening with the United States today, the process of sinking this country has already begun. Look at the disastrous condition of the economy and finances of America. The real production of the country has been shipped out, and the financial system is a giant bubble (of loans, securities, and unsecured dollars) ready to burst at any moment. The material and social situation of the masses of this country is getting worse with each new president. Authority turned into a corrupt monolith, which lies at the basis of global domination by transnational oligarchy. Infrastructure is rotting. The armed forces are regressing. Crime is off the charts. And most importantly, over the last ten years, the split in the American ruling elite is growing.

Today in the United States several powerful oligarchic clans clashed in a fierce battle for control of Washington for the future of the country and the world. Trump and Clinton - are just visible vertices of the clashing "icebergs". They publicly personify the opposing forces, remaining in the shadows behind media images, news releases and political battles.

Comment: That may or may not be Trump's goal, but he has signaled significant changes in US policy. Whether or not he can prevail against those who profit from the present global order is another matter.

The war against alternative information

Obama and Zuckerberg
The U.S. establishment is not content simply to have domination over the media narratives on critical foreign policy issues, such as Syria, Ukraine and Russia. It wants total domination. Thus we now have the "Countering Foreign Propaganda and Disinformation Act" that President Obama signed into law on Dec. 23 as part of the National Defense Authorization Act for 2017, setting aside $160 million to combat any "propaganda" that challenges Official Washington's version of reality.

The new law mandates the U.S. Secretary of State to collaborate with the Secretary of Defense, Director of National Intelligence and other federal agencies to create a Global Engagement Center "to lead, synchronize, and coordinate efforts of the Federal Government to recognize, understand, expose, and counter foreign state and non-state propaganda and disinformation efforts aimed at undermining United States national security interests." The law directs the Center to be formed in 180 days and to share expertise among agencies and to "coordinate with allied nations."

Human rights lawyer says Israeli leadership encourages soldiers to 'shoot to kill' without justification

An Israeli soldier who shot and killed an immobilized Palestinian assailant was convicted of manslaughter, but chances are he won't end up in jail, as many Israeli politicians support the soldier, experts say.

A guilty verdict was handed down on Wednesday to an Israeli soldier who shot and killed an injured Palestinian attacker. Elor Azaria, 20, a soldier of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF,) shot the injured man, Abdul Fatah al-Sharif, 21, in the West Bank city of Hebron in March 2016.

The court stated that the Palestinian man posed no threat and there was no justification for the killing.

Clashes broke out between police and supporters of the soldier while the hearing was taking place. The convicted soldier has a lot of support among Israelis; many say he is a hero.

President Barack Obama, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009, will leave office in a few weeks with the dubious honor of having sold more weapons than any other American president since World War II. And experts say President-Elect Donald Trump will most likely sell even more.

Most of the arms deals totaling over $200 billion in the period from 2008 to 2015 have ended up in the Middle East, according to a Congressional Research Service report published in December. The report, produced by the non-partisan government agency attached to the Library of Congress, breaks down the weapons sold which included surface-to-air missiles, tanks, and supersonic combat aircraft.

Focusing on arms deals to developing nations, the extensive report found that Saudi Arabia was the top arms importer with deals worth around $94 billion from 2008-2015. Under Obama the overall sales, pending delivery of equipment and specialized training for troops, to Saudi Arabia alone has ballooned to $115 billion.

'Fake cyber war': Hacker 'Guccifer' says US obsessed with Russian invasion

Romanian hacker 'Guccifer,' who exposed Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server, says the ongoing barrage of accusations by politicians in the US who claim that Russia "hacked the US election" is part of a "fake cyber war."

'Guccifer', whose real name is Marcel Lehel Lazar, spoke to Fox News from a Romanian prison, where he is serving a sentence for cybercrimes. After serving his sentence in Romania, he is to be extradited to the US, where he will also spend time in jail.

In a series of interviews with Fox News, Lazar attributed Russian hacking accusations to Cold War sentiments.

"Americans are crazy about the Russian thing and that Russians are invading the United States," Lazar said. "It's crazy... it's this hysteria you know?"

Andrew Korybko's 2017 Forecast: Central & South Asia

central asia map
Summary

The Eurasian Heartland can expect to immensely benefit from the Russian- and Chinese-led integrational projects being advanced in this region, though any hiccups in the eventual political transitions in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan might open up avenues for Salafist and revisionist threats to return to the surface and destabilize this ultra-crucial crossroads of the continent.

Multipolar Crossroads

Central Asia is located literally in the center of Russia, China, and Iran's multipolar Great Power geostrategic convergence, which amounts to this part of the world being unparalleled in its grand importance. Moscow, Beijing, and Tehran are fully cognizant of this and recognize how disastrous it would be for each of them if Central Asia were to be destabilized by a deadly combination of external and internal factors, which is why they're working so closely together to safeguard it from it all sorts of potential risks. Russia's CSTO provides security guarantees for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, while the Russian- and Chinese-led SCO aims to advance these three countries and Uzbekistan's all-around integration into the multipolar world. Constitutionally neutral Turkmenistan is not a party to either of these agreements, though there's been repeated speculation that it informally cooperates with both on areas of shared interest, such as defending against militant incursions from Afghanistan to helping to geographically facilitate Chinese-Iranian New Silk Road connectivity. As for the latter point, China already has one circuitous railroad connection to Iran and has floated the idea of building a high-speed one directly through the middle of Central Asia in order to connect the two Great Powers by means of the region's main cities and capitals. Understandably, the further along that trilateral Russian-Chinese-Iranian Central Asian connectivity and integrational projects come along, the stronger the emerging Multipolar World Order will become, though contrarily, any unforeseen challenges to these initiatives will reversely create problems for the Eurasian Great Powers.
