Israel's air force has targeted a Syrian military position with an airstrike, after a projectile launched towards Israel landed in the Golan Heights, the Israel Defense Forces announced.

The announcement of the Israeli strike came just 45 minutes after the IDF said that an "errant projectile from internal fighting in Syria" had hit an open area in the Golan Heights, and that no injuries had been reported.

It comes just two days after the IDF similarly fired at Syrian Army positions, after a projectile also hit an area in the northern Golan Heights.

Comment: How will Israel respond once the 'rebels' are eliminated from the Golan Heights area?

Chinese province larger than Texas ran 7 days on renewable energy

Qinghai province used only wind, solar and hydroelectric power to supply its population of 5.8 million

While the U.S. flounders on environmental action and a growing number of cabinet officials out themselves as climate deniers, China continues to make waves as an emerging leader in this space.

Chinese state media announced this week that the sprawling province of Qinghai in the country's northwest had run for seven consecutive days entirely on renewable energy. The province, which is larger than Texas, relied only on wind, solar and hydroelectric power from June 17-23, reported Xinhua. These renewable energy sources reportedly provided Qinghai and its population of 5.8 million with 1.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity — equal to about 535,000 tons of coal.

Qinghai's fossil fuel-free week was part of a trial that the Chinese government initiated to see if an entire province could successfully achieve zero emissions for an extended period of time. Wang Liming, deputy governor of Qinghai, told China Daily this month that the experiment would set a new global clean energy record.

The whole Aleppo province has been liberated from Islamic State terrorists, General Samir Suleiman, head of information for the Syrian Arab Army, confirmed to RT. "Syria's Army has entirely liberated Aleppo - both the city and the province. ISIS is not in the province anymore," General Suleiman told RT over the phone. Earlier on Friday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) fighters have abandoned the last area they held in Aleppo province.

The withdrawal came after government forces dislodged militants from the Ithriya-Rasafa road and areas east of Khanaser, Reuters reported, citing the media unit of Hezbollah, a Lebanese armed group, which is an ally of the Syrian Army. General Suleiman confirmed the liberation of the road.

New polls show that 80% Americans think it's a bad idea for the U.S. to intervene in Syria. Meanwhile, 300 U.S. Marines have been stationed along the Syria's southern border with Jordan. Is the U.S. about to become involved in Syria?
Answer: We already are.

Is Saudi Arabia's deposed crown prince lockdown fake news?

Mohammed bin Nayef, the deposed heir to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is rumored to be on lockdown in his Jeddah palace. Saudi officials have slammed the allegations as "baseless."

The former crown prince of Saudi Arabia, the king's 57-year-old nephew Mohammed bin Nayef, who was deposed as heir to the crown by the decision of King Salmān ibn Abd al-Aziz Al Saud himself, is rumored to be locked within the premises of his palace in Jeddah, according to a Wednesday report by the New York Times.

According to the newspaper, which quotes four current and former American officials and Saudis close to the royal family, the restrictions have been placed on bin Nayef to limit any potential opposition from him to the newly proclaimed crown prince, 31-year-old Mohammed bin Salman, the son of King Salman, whom the king appointed unexpectedly, breaking a decades-long rule of succession.

'Gross interference with domestic affairs': China furious at Trump's $1.4bn Taiwan arms deal and Chinese bank sanctions

The Chinese people "have every right to be outraged" by the new $1.4 billion US arms deal with Taiwan, Beijing has said, arguing that the sale means the Trump administration is contradicting earlier statements on maintaining peace in the region.

Washington has made the "wrong decision to sell arms to Taiwan in disregard of China's strong representations," reads a statement released on Friday by the Chinese embassy in the US.

On top of violating several joint communiques, the deal "grossly interferes [in] China's domestic affairs, jeopardizes China's sovereign and security interest and undermines China's efforts to realize national unification," the embassy says. "The Chinese government and Chinese people have every right to be outraged," it adds.

"And all these actions - sanctions against Chinese companies and especially arms sales to Taiwan - will certainly undermine the mutual confidence between the two sides and runs counter to the spirit of the Mar-a-Lago summit," said Ambassador Cui Tiankai, speaking to reporters at an embassy reception in Washington.

Israel acts to block Syrian counter offensive in the Golan Heights against al-Qaeda

Iraeli fighter jet
Israeli air force carries out air strike on Syrian army positions in the Golan Heights seeking to prevent Israel's Al-Qaeda allies from being overrun by a Syrian counter attack.

Despite air support from the Israeli air force, it seems that the Al-Qaeda led Jihadi offensive against Syrian army positions on the Golan Heights has been a failure, with the Al-Qaeda led Jihadis failing to make significant gains against the Syrian troops in the area.

The result was that the Syrian army itself decided to launch a counter offensive last night, apparently with the intention of retaking ground that the Al-Qaeda led Jihadis had captured in the Golan Heights earlier in the war.

US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, national security adviser H.R. McMaster has confirmed. It will be the two leaders' first meeting since Trump's inauguration.

Trump plans to meet with a number of world leaders, including Putin, at the Group of 20 summit, which will take place next Friday and Saturday, McMaster told reporters on Thursday.
When asked if Trump would ask Putin about alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, McMaster and economic adviser Gary Cohn said that the agenda for this and other meetings are "not finalized" yet.

"There is no specific agenda. It's really going to be whatever the president wants to talk about," McMaster said.
Trump intends to address both "irritants" and areas on which Washington and Moscow can work together, McMaster said. "Our relationship with Russia really isn't different" from the United States' relationships with other countries, he added.

The Federal Reserve is being used as an arm of US intelligence

Fed spying
A new report claims U.S. intelligence uses the Federal Reserve to analyze the asset holdings of the central banks of Russia and China.

While some may have called it a conspiracy theory at one point, a new report is shedding light on the United States Intelligence services' cozy relationship with the nation's central banking structure, and how they collaborate to spy on foreign banks.

Confidential accounts within the Federal Reserve have been used by the U.S. Treasury and other departments "several times a year to analyze the asset holdings of the central banks of Russia, China, Iraq, Turkey, Yemen, Libya and others," according to a report from Reuters that cites more than a dozen current and former senior U.S. officials.
"The U.S. central bank keeps a tight lid on information contained in these accounts. But according to the officials interviewed by Reuters, U.S. authorities regularly use a 'need to know' confidentiality exception in the Fed's service contracts with foreign central banks."

US retreats from Al-Tanf and gives up on occupying Southeast Syria

The U.S. is giving up its hopeless position at the Syrian-Iraq border crossing near al-Tanf in south east Syria. The U.S. military had earlier bombed Syrian forces when they came near that position but it then found itself outmaneuvered, cut off from the north and enclosed in a useless area.

Al-Tanf is in the blue area with the two blue arrows at the bottom of the map. It will soon be painted red as liberated and under Syrian government control.
