With very little fanfare from the western media, the US is quietly creating a hostile military footprint inside Syria.

By establishing a chain of airbases, military outposts and missile bases inside Syria, the US is illegally, stealth-occupying a sovereign nation. The number of US military installations in Syria has increased to eight bases according to recent reports, and possibly nine according to one other military analyst.

US President Donald Trump has said that "nobody really knows for sure" if Russia was behind the hacking during the 2016 US election. He spoke during a state visit to Poland, just hours before his first meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Asked if he can definitively confirm Russian interference in the 2016 election, President Trump was somewhat vague.

"Well I think it was Russia and I think it could have been other people and other countries," he said. "It could have very well been Russia but it could well have been other countries and I won't be specific but I think a lot of people interfered."

"Nobody really knows. Nobody really knows for sure."

President Vladimir Putin has praised the G20 push against cybercrime and urged the leaders of major economies to draft international norms and regulations, under the auspices of the UN, that would not infringe on civil liberties.

The G20 summit taking place in Hamburg will see an unprecedented drive by the world's largest economies to establish a joint coordinated effort to tackle cyberattacks on the global banking system.

Cross-border cooperation in dealing with the ever-growing risk of cyber intrusion was placed on the G20 agenda by the finance ministers of the respected countries in spring, following an $81 million cyber heist of the Bangladesh Central Bank last year.

Putin has welcomed the G20 thrust to combat cybercrime, as long as it does not infringe on civil liberties.

"We consider it highly important to protect human rights in the information space. At the same time, freedom in the digital sphere, just like in any other, should by no means be replaced by permissiveness and impunity. This leads to a rampage involving cyber-criminals, hacker groups and all those who encroach on the privacy of individuals or the sovereignty of states by using cutting-edge technologies," Putin said in an article published in the German business newspaper Handelsblatt.

One of Theresa May's first speeches as party leader has been likened to Adolf Hitler's 'Mein Kampf' by Liberal Democrat leadership hopeful Vince Cable.

The former Business Secretary launched a scathing attack on May's first Conservative Party Conference speech last year, where she told attendees that "citizens of the world" are actually "citizens of nowhere."

After North Korea's launch of an ICBM, that demonstrated ability to strike the continental United States...General Vincent Brooks, Commander of Combined Forces Command and General Lee Sun Jin, Chairman of the Republic of Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff, issued a stern warning to the North Korean regime.

The allied forces are prepared for war at any time, with only "self restraint and patience" holding back an all out assault on North Korea...

"Self restraint, which is a choice, is all that separates armistice and war. As this Alliance missile live fire shows, we are able to change our choice when so ordered by our Alliance national leaders," said Gen. Brooks. "It would be a grave mistake for anyone to believe anything to the contrary."

"Despite North Korea's repeated provocation, the ROK-U.S. Alliance is maintaining patience and self-restraint," said Gen. Lee. "As the combined live fire demonstrated, we may make resolute decisions any time, if the Alliance Commanders in Chief order. Whoever thinks differently is making a serious misjudgment."

A month after the first US tanker carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) arrived in Poland, Polish President Andrzej Duda has unveiled an ambitious plan to make the country a pan-European energy hub able to distribute gas across the EU.

"Can we become a hub through which American LNG gas will flow to central Europe? I am convinced the answer is 'yes'," Duda told journalists after a meeting with US President Donald Trump.

The Polish president stressed the issue is under the framework of Three Seas Initiative - an alliance of a dozen eastern and central European nations that border the Adriatic, Baltic and Black seas.

Last month, Poland received the first shipment of LNG from the US. As a group, the countries aim to diversify energy supplies, reducing their dependence on oil and gas provided by Russia.

Viktor Yanukovych is a flawed man and behaved cowardly in 2014. His security services by contrast were impeccable in their standards of professionalism against tremendous odds. Now their former President is trying to clear their name.

The legacy of Viktor Yanukovych is a deeply controversial one. Viktor Yanukovych was the last legitimate President of Ukraine who was illegally overthrown in a western backed coup in February of 2014. Prior to that, Yanukovych was seen by many as a unifying candidate, the best choice of a bad lot who could hold the fragility of Ukraine's totally artificial borders together in spite of tremendous historical odds.

In many ways Yanukovych never got the chance to be the unity candidate he pledged to be. He was constantly being undermined by sectarian forces including neo-Nazi elements who could not tolerate a man who preached tolerance and practiced it, however limply. When the latent fascist elements in the historic Galacia region knew that the US and EU would back them, they came out of the woodwork and pounced. They began to launch an insurrection which led to a coup, in popular lore it is known as The Maidan or Euromaidan.

France has announced it will end the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles in less than 25 years. The country plans to meet its targets under the Paris climate accord, new Ecology Minister Nicolas Hulot announced Thursday.

"We are announcing the end of the sale of gasoline and diesel cars by 2040," he said.

Hulot did not specify if this would mean a ban on the sale of petrol and diesel cars. Neither did he explain how the ban would be introduced or whether it would include hybrid vehicles.

The minister said the target would impose a "heavy" burden on local carmakers. Leading French producers Renault and PSA, the maker of Peugeot and Citroen cars, are partly owned by the state.
