Democratic leaders call effort premature, citing ongoing probes

The House tossed aside an attempt by Rep. Al Green on Wednesday to bring articles of impeachment against President Trump.

Many Democrats joined the Republican majority in voting, 364-58, to table the resolution from Mr. Green, Texas Democrat, after Democratic leaders said Mr. Trump's actions may be upsetting to the party, but that talk of impeachment was premature.

"Legitimate questions have been raised about his fitness to lead this nation. Right now, Congressional committees continue to be deeply engaged in investigations into the President's actions both before and after his inauguration," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer said in a joint statement. "The special counsel's investigation is moving forward as well, and those inquiries should be allowed to continue. Now is not the time to consider articles of impeachment."

Accuser says Rep. Conyers implied he had "inside information" on Chandra Levy case

Rep. Conyers

In a harrowing report released Wednesday, an alleged victim of sexual harassment at the hands of Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) said that he told her something chilling after she rebuffed his advances.

What did he say to her?

The Washington Post reported the claims of a former staffer of Conyers who said that the "iconic" congressman propositioned her when she was just a 20-year-old intern working at his office.

Courtney Morse, now 36, said that the congressman drove her home one evening but indicated that he wanted a sexual relationship with her after wrapping his hands around hers in her lap.

Comment: Well this certainly adds another dimension to the sexual harassment allegations against Conyers. Let's assume he said what his accuser says he said. He may have been simply using it as an empty threat to try and get sexual favours after being rebuffed. Or it may not have been so empty a threat, meaning he may actually have some sort of insider info on the Chandra Levy case. What's implied is that he may actually be involved. Either way, it would appear that Conyers is a scumbag, but how big a scumbag is yet to be determined.

Propaganda outlet the BBC to brainwash students in how to identify what they consider Fake News

BBC Director of News James Harding:
BBC Director of News James Harding: "Some information is downright lies." - which in the UK they call the 'News at 10'
The BBC is launching a new scheme to help young people identify real news and filter out fake or false information.

The project is targeted at secondary schools and sixth forms across the UK.

From March, up to 1,000 schools will be offered mentoring in class and online to help them spot so-called fake news.

Comment: Schooling no longer teaches children to think critically, because if it did, this farce wouldn't be necessary in the first place. Alas if they did, the BBC wouldn't exist: Valedictorian Speaks Out Against Schooling in Graduation Speech

The tangled threads of the Russia-gate conspiracy theory

New York Times headquarters
A curious feature about the Russia-gate "scandal" is that its proponents ignore the growing number of moments when their evidence undercuts their narrative. Instead, they press ahead toward a predetermined destination in much the way that true-believing conspiracy theorists are known to do.

For instance, The New York Times ran a story on Monday, entitled "Operative Offered Trump Campaign Access to Putin," detailing how a conservative operative "told a Trump adviser that he could arrange a back-channel meeting between Donald J. Trump and Vladimir V. Putin, the Russian president, according to an email sent to the Trump campaign" - and apparently described to the Times by a helpful source on Capitol Hill.

The Times quoted the email from National Rifle Association member Paul Erickson to Trump campaign adviser Rick Dearborn as saying, "Putin is deadly serious about building a good relationship with Mr. Trump. ... [Putin] wants to extend an invitation to Mr. Trump to visit him in the Kremlin before the election."

An NRA conference in Louisville, Kentucky, was supposed to be the location for the "first contact" between the Russians and the Trump campaign, according to the email.

Comment: Indeed, the Russia-gate narrative is hopelessly convoluted and seems to do everything but implicate Trump and "Russian collusion". See also:

Trump: Saudi Arabia must immediately lift Yemen blockade

Right after infuriating the Muslim world by announcing that he'd move the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, US President Trump called for Saudi Arabia to lift its blockade on Yemen and allow food and other supplies into the famine-stricken country.

"I have directed officials in my administration to call the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to request that they completely allow food, fuel, water and medicine to reach the Yemeni people, who desperately need it," Trump said in a brief statement Wednesday.

Anti-US protests erupted almost immediately after Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital - with greater demonstrations expected across the Muslim world, united in their support of the Palestinian cause.

Palestinians were first to take to the streets following Trump's Jerusalem decision - a potentially fatal blow to their future statehood ambitions - as their leaders called for three days of rage against the controversial move.

U.S. organized "Forum of Free Russia" wants to sanction "Putin's foreign accomplices"

Putin liberals
The liberals who have gathered in Vilnius for the "Forum of Free Russia" , 1 -4 December 2017, fear that the new anti-Russian sanctions that the US will introduce in February 2018 will not cover all of the "criminals of the Putin regime."

"Most likely, it will simply be a list of those who are close to the regime and are dangerous for the United States. The inclusion in such a list excludes people from international business, they bear reputational costs." said Aleksey Navalny's ally, Nikita Kulachenkov.

In order for the Americans not to forget anyone, the forum compiled a "Putin List", which included 88 names. The document, as stated by its authors, will be transferred to the Western special services. The liberals hope that then the parliaments of the United States and Europe will impose personal sanctions against the persons involved in the list.

Comment: From its Website, the so-called Free Russia organization describes itself thusly:
About Free Russia

Free Russia Foundation is a nonprofit, nonpartisan,
nongovernment U.S.-based organization with 501 (c) 3 status
that informs U.S. policy makers on events in Russia
in real time and supports formulation of an effective and sustainable Russia policy in the U.S.
In other words, it is a George Soros/U.S. State Department organized group that is informed by U.S. Deep State policy makers who are desperate to find a way to foster dissent in Moscow, and stick in a puppet of their own choosing.

That this forum would even have an individual like arch criminal Mikhail Khodorkovsky supporting it and in attendance just speaks volumes about it.

Lastly, this bunch wants to sanction Patriarch Kirill? Really? Geezus!

Is it normal for incoming administrations to talk to Russian leaders?

Flynn Kislyak
© CNNMichael Flynn and Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak
Those who want to impeach Trump say his contacts (through Flynn and others) with high-level Russians, such as Russian Ambassador Kislyak, was treason ... or at the very least an impeachable offense.

Others - without any proof - say that the president-elect's team contacting foreign leaders is normal.

Who's right?

The New York Times reports:
It is common and not improper for transition officials to meet with foreign officials.

Western media's lack of interest in Saakashvili's theatrical arrest and escape does not bode well for him

Ukraine national guard Saakashvili

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's attempt to frame his political opponent Mikhail Saakashvili as a Kremlin agent is truly beyond parody.

However, the refusal of most prominent western media outlets to cover the breaking story from Kiev spells danger for "Mischa."

As I write, on Tuesday afternoon, the dramatic events are completely absent from the front pages of America's CNN, New York Times, and Washington Post. This stands in contrast to their often hysterical live coverage of far less dramatic protests by Russia's small liberal opposition.

Saakashvili's farcical arrest turns violent as supporters clash with police in Kyiv

Hundreds of anticorruption protesters clashed with police in Kyiv, calling for the ouster of Ukaine's president, as authorities launched a manhunt to find protest leader Mikheil Saakashvili after his dramatic escape from police custody.

Ukrainian Prosecutor-General's Office spokesman Andriy Lysenko said late on December 5 that the authorities ordered the manhunt for the former Georgian president after a chaotic scene in which Saakashvili's supporters freed him from a police van after security forces stormed his apartment and detained him.

Lysenko said in a Facebook post that prosecutors had informed National Police chief Serhiy Knyazev that Saakashvili, who is also the former governor of Ukraine's Odesa region whom the authorities accuse of ties to an "organized crime" group, was a wanted man.

But Saakashvili vowed to continue resisting arrest, saying in an interview with the German Bild tabloid due to be published on December 6 that "the secret service won't manage to detain me."

Comment: Moon of Alabama comments:
Today a slapstick comedy played out in Kiev. It's background though is mysterious.

In 2015 the billionaire currently ruling the Ukraine by the grace of Washington, Petro Poroshenko, invited the disgraced former president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, to run the city and region of Odessa. Saakashvili is charged in is home country Georgia with abuse of office and he has lost his Georgian citizenship.

The administration of Odessa is as corrupt as any other in the Ukraine but the money was flowing into the wrong pockets. Saakashvili set out to change that. He soon stepped on the sensible toes of some mighty people. After a year Poroshenko dismissed him. Saakashvili moved to the capital Kiev and started a ruckus against his former benefactor. Soon he was under investigation and accused of this or that criminal deed. When as he traveled outside of the country his Ukrainian passport was revoked and his reentry into the Ukraine was prohibited. Saakashvili entered anyway under the protection of some mysteriously paid supporters and moved back to Kiev. He recently led several protests marches against Poroshenko. Saakashvili was again indicted, this time for allegedly being paid by Moscow to arrange for a "Russian winter" coup against Poroshenko in Ukraine. Today the police went to arrest him at his apartment in Kiev.

When the police arrived Saakashvili fled onto the roof of the eight story house where he was caught (video) by the police.

He was brought to the ground and pushed into a police van.

His supporters, who somehow had arrived in mass, blocked the road. After an hour and some clashes with the police they freed him (video) from the vehicle.

Saakashvili and his supporters went to hold a protest in front of the parliament. At the same time the Ukrainian Prosecutor General reported inside the parliament of tapped phone-calls in which some Russian middleman agrees to pay Saakashvili half a million for running more protests. Local TV transmitted a split-screen live stream of both.
Saakashvili Ukrainian Prosecutor General
One wonders what this really is about.

Who pays Saakashvili and his "protesters"?

What does Saakashvili, or the people behind him, want?

Why doesn't Poroshenko arrest Saakashvili in some unsuspicious moment?

Why not let him have an 'accident'?

Why not deport him to Georgia where he would likely go to jail?
